  • I'm a huge fan of listening to your body. If you are eating mostly fruits and veggies you are likely bloating because of that. The body can only push so much through, so fast. On top of that, some foods are known to cause bloating/gas. Broccoli, garlic, onions, etc. Sulfur type foods (some people don't handle sulfur foods…
  • For those with fructose/sugar malabsorption issues, it can be a life changer.
  • When this happened to me it was because my thyroid tanked.
  • BioGest by Thorne has a good amount of oxbile in it. It's considered one of the better enzymes and the only one my entire family can use. Now Super Enzymes is a cheaper alternative but doesn't seem to work as well for my crew. Both of those would be options to try.
  • For my first month on MFP all I did was just log everything I ate. I'm generally a healthy eater anyway, but I had my share of "junk" food. After that month (and during it as well) I started to understand why I wasn't losing. By the time I started the second month I felt very comfortable with allowing myself what I wanted…
  • ^^^^^^ THIS
  • DR follower here too. Been debt free for 11 of our 20 years of marriage (only ever had house debt anyway in the first 9 yrs). Gotta love those debt free screams. :-)
  • Where is your May accountability group?
  • This is what I did but it took me about a month to finally get to a place where I could stay within MFP calories. I was already eating healthy so that wasn't so much an issue for me. But I struggled like crazy to stay lower then maintenance calories. I tweaked and adjusted and moved things around until I hit it. That first…
  • We keep a budget for everything in our house. We budget $1200/mo for food and all other household needs (cleaners, misc. clothing, non-food needs, etc). Our actual food budget runs about $1000 of that $1200 (per month). Someone told me one time that planning $50 per person per week for food is considered "average." I have…
  • One of my best friends has 12 kids. She shops what's on sale and then builds her menu around that. While I don't do that personally, it's actually a very wise thing to do when you're trying to save money. Person for person, they feed their family with about the same amount of money as I feed my family of 5.
  • This is a REALLY good post! For those that have the option, growing your own food and freezing it every summer is an excellent way to save money. We have three teens and grow a huge amount of our veggies and freeze them every summer. I only have to buy what's in season fresh during the winter. The only thing I actually can…
  • Yes. Digestive enzymes can help poor digestion. BioGest by Thorne is one of the best, but it's spendy. NOW Super Enzymes is similar to BioGest but not exact. We definitely notice the difference between those two in this house, but they both work. We stick with BioGest because of other health issues that need the best…
  • At this age you can still tell him what he can and cannot eat (because of his age - at least while he's at home). When he wants something not healthy for him you can tell him "no" and give him healthier alternatives. I always tell my kids why I make a decision so they will learn. So to tell him "this is healthier for you…
  • When my DD was 10-13 she seemed to get a round little belly and chunk up quite a bit. I am not a skinny minnie and I was quietly worried within myself that she was going to struggle as she got older. We eat healthy anyway so we continued to and she continued to learn by example what to eat and to be active. That little…
  • I use Emergen-C grape or orange. 30 cals and I use a huge mug so it dilutes it and gives me lots to drink. And the extra vit. C probably doesn't hurt either.
  • I can't do dairy so I don't know how to do dairy kefir but water kefir is fantastic and is like a flavored soda or wine cooler if you like those (depending how long you ferment it). It's also much easier to make then dairy kefir.
  • Talk to your doctor, but I know mine was fine with me losing weight while pregnant because he said the baby WILL take what it needs from you no matter what. If your doctor is fine with you losing some while pregnant you might just aim for maintenance calories for the weight your at now knowing that you'll probaby lose…
  • Hang in there. Not everyone thinks the same on these boards. Juicing for a short time (I consider 30 days short) is not a bad idea. It can certainly help reset your body and brain and plenty of people in this world have proved that. You obviously know it's not the way to weight loss. Take this 30 days to get in tune with…
  • Yep. This. Learning to be kind to myself has been part of the key to losing for me. Well written post. Thanks!
  • You might consider looking at Floradix. Another option is Hylands Cell Salt #4. Both of these are better forms of iron and easier absorbed then iron pills. I know a number of people that are anemic and can't take iron but can do either or both of these forms.
  • As someone who recovered 20+ years ago from an ED I can assure you there is life on the other side. :-) You will not always feel this kind of struggle with food. It DOES get better. Hang in there!
  • This ^^^^^^^ So Delicious unflavored coconut milk is great for cooking or even on cereal if you eat that. We can't do dairy and I won't use other alternative milks because they are higher in carbs/sugar.
  • I'm a busy busy homeschool mom, but I got exhausted just reading all that! LOL!! You are wonder woman!
  • I have to second and third so many of these suggestions. I was a caregiver from age 30-37 for two ailing in-laws (alzheimers and cancer) and the stress is so difficult! I cannot say enough how important it is for you to get some respite once in awhile. Take yourself to get your nails done once a week, a massage, anything…
  • Soy and whey protein tend to be very allergenic for people. Pea protein is another option. I'm using both the Costco Vega Pea Protein and Greens or Natureade Pea Protein and have found both to be good in smoothies. My guess is, if you paid attention to other things you're eating (cheese, milk, etc) and watch your body…
  • It's almost planting time for me. In about two weeks. I'll start tilling and getting my rows set in a week or so. I am cutting back my garden this year. With two of my three teens working this summer I will be losing some of my help and I can't do a huge garden by myself. We grow and preserve as much of our food as…
  • THIS! I struggle with this so much. I get up really early with my husband. I don't eat BF at 5:00am but I have to eat *something* b/c I'm starving. So I will have an orange or something around 100 calories to hold me until breakfast. I get up again at 9:00 or 9:30 and eat breakfast. But by the time I get to dinner, I've…
  • GERD is not caused by too much stomach acid - it's caused by too little. The foods sits and "ferments" (for lack of a better word) in your gut and after awhile that causes the backup into the esophagus. I would highly recommend adding a digestive enzyme like Bio Gest by Thorne to help get rid of it. If you start at 2…
