Supplements and Enzymes

I have a few questions I would like to know. Well, I have a very sluggish stomach, it takes forever to digest my food, even if I barely ate. Even when I exercise, I feel like the food is still there is my stomach and even after 15-20 fasting. Are there any supplements that can digest food faster? I take probiotics in the evening but they don't help. I don't want to take laxatives either. Also, what works better, fat or carb blockers? I could use them on my cheat days/rest days. And lastly, do fat burners work? I'm more concerned about the digestion supplements because I'm tired of feeling bloated and fat because my food takes forever to digest. Thank u.

You probably should discuss it with your doctor, since there are medical reasons for those symptoms.

Fat loss supplements are scams that prey on wishful-thinkers. A calorie deficit is all you need to make progress. :+1:

Come on, mate. You've posted enough threads on this to know that those kinds of pills and supplements are scamwoo and don't work.

A "sluggish stomach" is a new one, I guess, but if you feel you have digestive problems, you need to see a doctor.

I been having digestion issues for so long that I been ignoring them but now they are a problem and I thought I could take something to help with digesting my food quicker and so it doesn't sit there even after fasting.

I would NOT recommend fat/carb blockers on your cheat days, unless you plan on consuming very little fat.. Which doesn't sound like a fun cheat day at all.

ETA: Go to your health food store and discuss Digestive Enzymes with them. Don't know if they'll work as i have no idea what medical condition, if any, you have.

See Your doctor. Don't play around with supplements...you don't know how it is going to affect you and you may do more damage.

Are you sure you're having digestion issues and not just bloated? You may have a sensitivity to a food that you're eating. Also, 1000-1200 is way too low!

I no it's too low. I thought it could help but no matter how low or how much I eat, I'm constantly bloated for hours, even after exercise the food is still there. I always feel bloated and fat and it's so annoying that I'm constantly wearing a jacket because I'm embarrassed. I hate having a distended stomach and feeling uncomfortable.

I'd honestly go to the doctor and get this checked out. There could be a simple fix for what you are experiencing.

maybe your stomach isn't full - maybe it's irritated, which feels similar. i'm allergic to wheat and have lactose digestion issues, and both make my stomach turn into a hard ball that sticks out but it isn't full - just swollen and i guess spasming.

have you talked to a doctor about this?

Not yet. I been on probiotics to help me but they hardly work. I feel like I have gastroparesis and it's very annoying and uncomfortable. I just wasn't sure if digestive enzymes work or not

OP, you've gotten some great advice here. This really is a question that you should be posing to your primary care physician or whatever doctor you might see.

Any kind of issue that affects your health, and digestion is a key part of your health, is best suited for trained medical professionals and not random internet posters... although you've been lucky thus far and only received sound, logical advice.

Mothers market sells Digest all it works wonders! I used it while I was pregnant for my sluggish digestion too. I'm sure you can get it on Amazon too.

Yes. Digestive enzymes can help poor digestion. BioGest by Thorne is one of the best, but it's spendy. NOW Super Enzymes is similar to BioGest but not exact. We definitely notice the difference between those two in this house, but they both work. We stick with BioGest because of other health issues that need the best digestion of food we can get. General dosing for either brand is 2 capsules per meal for the first month or so. Then cutting back to one per meal as you feel comfortable that your food is digesting and not bloating you. And yes, look into food allergies as possible causes of the bloat as well.

I would suggest that you see a doctor about your digestive issues. The issue may be as simple as a food intolerance. I'm lactose intolerant, so milk has an effect on me similar to the one you're describing.

In addition to that, I would suggest trying some digestive enzymes. Try to get one that has a broad spectrum of enzymes. Protease, lipase, amylase, cellulase, and lactase should be included at the bare minimum. If you feel like the food is "sitting in your stomach" like you said, you could also try some stomach acid supplements. Betaine HCL capsules are the standard reccomendation for that, but some people have luck with just taking a few tablespoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water before a meal. The vinegar has some natural enzymes that were produced through the fermentation process as well. You could also try drinking kombucha, as it also has probiotics, live enzymes, and beneficial acids.
