  • I have lymphadema in my left ankle/leg from a severe broken leg and torn ankle tendons and ligaments. During surgery they removed a lymph node in the process of trying to repair my ankle. Since mine is injury related I always have it but it does go up and down based on heat/cold, sodium, etc. It's not been a factor in my…
  • This is 100% why I call bull when people constantly say, "show me the scientific study." After a lot of reading and digging one discovers that a huge amount of "studies" that are done today (or even years ago) have people involved that are such a conflict of interest that how could anyone take that "study" seriously? When…
  • I would encourage you to look into the book The Beck Diet Solution. It is a book on cognitive behavioral therapy - not how to diet. It's a changing the mind/emotions book. Very good. Been exceedingly helpful for me (I have a long history of anorexia and bulimia). So much of the battle to lose is mental and not physical.
  • I bought shoes specifically for flat feet. The only ones I have found that work for me are New Balance. I have tried every other brand and I always regret it. So long as I wear NB I don't get shin splints or PF at all. I actually really wanted the brooks or saucony but could not make them work. I just recently needed to…
  • My husband is 10yrs older then me. He is naturally slender but has put on 20#'s this past 10yrs or so and could stand to lose it. I cook healthy and serve him and he buys crap and eats it. I don't eat what he buys and he doesn't offer it to me. Although I am noticing the age difference (he needs hearing aids), in terms of…
  • I'm surprised that with only 15#'s they wouldn't approve it. That little bit of weight generally doesn't make a huge difference chest wise for *most* people. I realize for some it might, but boy, that wouldn't have done anything to change my size. I get you with the pain. Very uncomfortable!
  • I have found my Misfit Shine to be pretty darn accurate. When MFP states how many calories an activity burns, I find my tracker shows less but falls in line with what most people say about "eating back half your exercise calories." It syncs well with MFP and I can wear it wrist or it has a clip on if I want to use that.…
  • This. ^^^^^ I would recommend going through the book The Beck Diet Solution maybe now before you get started to see if it helps with the mind thing. I've had to work on my mind way more then I ever imagined in order to work on my body.
  • I'm 46. I have PCOS and IC. I manage both as naturally as possible with diet, exercise, targeted supplements, and natural therapies. Although PCOS has been a factor in weight gain/loss, for my body, strict CICO still works. My issue is discipline.....
  • You sound hypoglycemic. With fasting sugars that low, that is the likely culprit. My DD experiences this daily. She also has very low blood sugar every time we test it (even after eating). Generally, people that are hypoglycemic do better eating a bit more frequently and making sure that for every carb they eat (25gms)…
  • Cramping and pins and needles with working out are often the result of not getting enough magnesium. If you can't eat foods high enough in mag then supplementation should be done with a 1:1 ratio of calcium and magnesium. Vitamins and minerals *usually* absorb better with their companion nutrients. There are different…
  • Funny. I was thinking the other day I had not seen this thread in awhile. I need to mark it. I have been stuck on the same pound up and down for 4 weeks. The thing is, it's my fault. I'm getting frustrated with myself. I've missed two weeks of working out b/c of scheduling issues and I'm eating at maintenance. :-( Which I…
  • I just refilled my phen and went to a new pharmacy b/c of cost. Low and behold, it's the KVK brand and I HATE it. I took it for the first time today and do not feel like it was working at all. Normally, the phen gives me really dry mouth. Nothing at all today. Zero. This really concerns me as I'm already struggling and…
  • Synthroid (levoxy) is not the best med for thyroid. It requires your body to convert T4 to T3 but what if your body is not efficient at doing so like many people's? I have to use selenium even using natural thyroid hormones b/c I convert so poorly. Armour and naturethroid both provide all of the thyroid hormones. It way…
  • This is amazing!! Fantastic work! You must be very disciplined!
  • There are a few things I've learned from the forums (which mostly irritate me!) that have been really helpful. The muscle/water thing is one of them. And I'm only going up and down a pound so I guess it could be worse. :D I did get a phen refill today and took note of the manufacturer. I filled it at Costco instead of my…
  • I am 7 weeks on phen but only 6 weeks on it daily and have lost 6#'s on it (we were experimenting with dosage and days the first week). I have been gaining and losing the same pound (which would put me at 8) for the last 2 weeks. Getting frustrated! I'm going to try tightening some things up and see if that helps. It *is*…
  • I have been fighting the same stupid pound for almost 3 weeks. Is this normal?
  • This is very reassuring to hear. I just assumed higher fat would increase triglycerides. Congrats on lowering your numbers. It just seems that type of diet would be so much more satiating. Do you allow yourself any fruit? I actually found the Diabetes Solution and downloaded it to my kindle. Can't wait to check it out!…
  • @angie55575 I take my phen around 9am b/c I take thyroid meds at 6:00am. I found that taking the phen later in the morning like that instead of when I first wake up made a big difference for how long through the day it works for me. If I take it earlier, it's almost like it wears off around 3:00 or 4:00. If I take it at…
  • @angie55575 I have found that sometimes eating at maintenance for a couple of days and then kicking back into the lower calorie count seems to kick weight loss higher for me. I don't know why, it just happens every time. If you try the break from phen will you tell us how it goes? I am hoping to lose 40 before it stops…
  • Can you ladies tell me how you did your chart? Did you use excel or just type it into a Word doc? I am at week 7 or 8 and have waffled with the same half pound to a pound for the last 2 weeks. It's starting to annoy me - although I'm still losing inches. But I think if I could see it laid out like this I would do better…
  • Look into The Beck Diet Solution. It is cognitive behavioral therapy for things just like this. I have found it way more helpful then anything else in terms of fixing emotional eating.
  • Yes. No personal conversations. You will not change her so engaging her is pointless. If she says something personal you can just act like you didn't hear her and change the subject. If she persists, you can even say something like, "I've decided to keep my personal life private from now on." She will get the hint. It…
  • The Beck Diet Solution. Enjoying learning how to keep the weight off as I lose it. Not following it strictly, but definitely useful.
  • Love all of these testimonies of Christ. Born again believer here as well.
  • I would suggest a FULL thyroid panel. Not just a TSH (which won't tell you crud). Free T3, Free T4, antibodies (TPO), Reverse T3, and TSH. When I get stuck, I find it's usually my thyroid needing adjusting. You don't say how old you are, but it's not uncommon as a woman gets older for the thyroid to not function as well.…
  • Eating fat does not increase triglycerides. I eat a moderate carb, high fat diet and my triglycerides have come down 100 points. Genetically, they run very high and this drop put me into the normal range. High fat also raised my HDL above 50 which my doctor said is very difficult for most people to do, much less someone…
  • I have slowly gained weight over the years AFTER having kids. Combination of being a homeschooling mom (very sedentary teaching all day), thyroid issues, permanently damaged pituitary, severe leg and ankle injury that led to weight gain from not walking for almost a year, etc. Things just seemed to pile up. Add to that I'm…
  • The issue isn't can you or can't you lose weight eating those things. The issue is are those things healthy for your body in a nutritional way.
