  • :s I don't do anything soy and I'm assuming by it's name it's soy based. I have found most meal replacement shakes to be abysmal in nutrients and ingredients. If I'm going to drink my calories I'm going to make my own protein shakes. They just taste so much better and I can control what goes into them. I'm more of a whole…
  • Thanks! I'm not into spicey but I love vinegar so I'll check out a recipe online and adjust it for us. I'm always excited to try new stuff. I get bored with the same 'ol, same 'ol.
  • Some thoughts - 1. I don't know what soylent is but I'm gathering it's a meal replacement shake. I'm probably one of the rare people that actually likes to drink their calories but I choose not to because I tend to drink too many when I do that. I could see using shakes as a method of changing a habit but wouldn't…
  • I'm not much into fried foods so I would bake it in the sauce alone But I have a question. I've never heard of "buffalo" sauce. What is that and where does one find it? Thanks for the link, BTW.
  • Look in to the book The Beck Diet Solution. It is a book that teaches cognitive behavioral therapy for weight loss. It is excellent to teaching how to overcome emotional eating habits. I highly recommend working through both the book and workbook.
  • If you only lift twice a week (tues/thur) does this water process happen every week then? In order to get past it does one need to lift say, 4x's a week? I'm a huge water retainer and lift twice a week and treadmill 5 days a week. I find the water fluctuation to be huge for me week to week. Will it only level out and go…
  • That looks fabulous! Got a recipe you can share for that chicken???
  • And that is certainly your choice....
  • This is a great blog post about the AMA. Are they the official disease arbitor? Nope. But without their stamp of approval medical conditions will rarely, if ever, be recognized and if one follows it through (as she does so well), the FDA/drug companies play a major role in what is deemed a disease and what isn't. I guess…
  • Nope. You're wrong. I'm not coming back with anything to argue with you about. 1) You pop onto this forum so conveniently anytime something you disagree with is posted and yet add nothing (or almost nothing) to any other part of the forum). So as far as I'm concerned, you're a troll. Are you actually paid to come here and…
  • 1) Like other factions of MD's don't do things unwarranted by actual evidence? Doctors use drugs off label all the time to try and treat things because it *might* work. There is often little if actual "evidence" that doing so will work. And yet they do it. Or, they might have read a small study so they'll try something on…
  • A very happy birthday and what a wonderful journey to 50 to celebrate!
  • This is untrue. Functional Medicine MD's do treat adrenal fatigue regardless of what the AMA says about it. And functional medicine doctors ARE medical doctors. Once upon a time western medicine didn't believe in chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia and yet today they are "addressed" in western medicine. Adrenal…
  • I would really recommend the book The Beck Diet Solution as a possible method/way for you to learn how to have a better thought pattern/attitude towards food/weight. It may help you a lot along the way of trying to eat some things in more moderation then cutting them completely out. I am finding both the workbook and…
  • Yummy sweet potato breakfast: 1 large sweet potato 1 large apple 2 tbls coconut oil 2 tbls brown sugar (optional) 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 2 eggs 1/2 unsweetened coconut milk (or regular milk will work) 1/2 cup crushed pecans 1/4 cup raisins Peel and shred (I use my salad shooter) sweet potato. Shred or dice…
  • So I'm a solutions person. Once I discover there is a problem, I want to set about fixing it. I hate wasting time on something that surely must have a solution. Since it's obvious there is such a thing as a "wall" that so many hit when losing weight, how does one go about "fixing" this? I have self analyzed my "wall" and…
  • I'm not sure I've ever laughed so hard..... :D
  • So much this ^^^^^^^^. There will be someone at Columbia in their counseling/student center that should be able to guide you to on campus help. I too have been where you are. It's not worth losing your future hopes and dreams to an eating disorder. Please seek on campus help at least.
  • Rather then buy a premade shake mix, I would make your own. We use coconut milk, egg white protein, pea protein, bananas, strawberries (or whatever fruit we feel like at the moment) and blend it all up in a blender. It's easy and you avoid the things you're allergic to.
  • Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you voiced this because I thought I was the only one. I definitely have a wall! It seems like I lose 15#'s and as I'm headed to 20#'s I get "stuck" mentally. I have my weight loss broken into 20# increments to make it feel more manageable, but for some reason, I struggle between the 15 and 20#…
  • I definitely second Dr. Bernsteins book! His book is what finally got me back to normal after being a gestational diabetic. I think that nvketo mom's experience actually makes a good point. Everyone is very different. If you have a family history of diabetes then you may have to be strict with your carbs. If you're like me…
  • I have my macros set at 50c/40f/40p. I am technically diabetic. I've lost 20#'s eating with those macros. The ONLY reason I have not lost more faster is because I don't run a huge deficit. I'm just now getting to the place where eating at TDEE -20% seems to be working for me and speeding things up. I can tell you that…
  • I do not understand why they say this is rare. Of the people that I know that have done keto about half end up with this rash. That's not "rare" in my mind. If they stick it out it eventually goes away but that can take a long while. Of those I've known that have had it, it has taken as long as several months to go away.…
  • I'm pretty much like you in terms of what I was taught for hair and makeup. So I did the next best thing. I went to one of my friends that I admire and asked her to help me learn to do my makeup and pick out clothes that are flattering on me (if there is such a thing as flattering on my overweight body). For my girls, we…
  • Value Village.........a woman after my own heart. :-D Love that place!
  • No. Digestive enzymes are polar opposite of probiotics. They help breakdown the food you eat so it doesn't sit and clog your gut up. We found our girl just didn't digest her food well so her body couldn't push it through very easily. I would encourage you to try bio gest made by Thorne (they have several so make sure it's…
  • My teen girls have horrendous stretch marks from growing so fast. Since I've never really had issues with stretch marks I wasn't sure what to do. We did some research and started giving them bovine powdered collagen. We do A LOT of bone broths so they get it that way too. I don't know that it's been long enough to see a…
  • Log it all and move on. Maybe balance things for the rest of the week but for the most part just start fresh.
  • Do you have issues with any other fruits? A friend recently discovered that what she thought were allergies to certain fruits was actually fructose malabsorption syndrome. What makes me wonder is that particular issue often causes mouth/face rashes specifically. Other symptoms are severe gas and bloating, so if you don't…
  • I would highly recommend digestive enzymes at every meal. We had to start our girl out on two capsules of BioGest (no other brand worked for her) per meal. It took about 2-3 weeks for it to kick in with regularity but when it did it took care of her chronic constipation. We did that for a few years. After that we slowly…
