Lebanese green bean stew (loubyeh) Mjadra (lentils) & fried onions over rice Potato pierogies Roasted root vegetables (whatever's available - potato, sweet potato, carrot, turnip, parsnip, beet, etc.) Black bean soup Red and/or black beans & rice

I've had those, too. I admit, they're not half bad!

Yes! my favorite is a little Italian coffee house just a few miles from my house. I have to go out of my way to get there and pass a lot of Tim Horton and Dunkin-type places on the way, but it's so worth it.
-
For donuts, yes, definitely (and I prefer local bakeries to either of them).
-
I'm in southeast Michigan. The donuts are awful, and the coffee is barely acceptable. You can certainly find better elsewhere.
-
This is a good point... I always use the USDA entries for produce, and the macro and micros are nearly always specified in those entries.
-
I have to eat a high-protein breakfast cereal every morning. If not, one of two things will happen (neither of them good): I'll fall short of my daily protein goal, or I'll go over my daily calorie goal.
-
Erica, I am a high(ish)-carb vegetarian, and my wife is a VERY low carb carnivore (keto/paleo/whatever you want to call it). We've both lost a significant amount of weight by maintaining a calorie deficit. When I log, I'm only concerned about calories, protein, and micronutrients (vitamins, calcium and iron).
-
Plant-based diets aren't necessarily THAT low in protein. I'm getting a minimum of 95g protein per day, and as much as 120 some days. That's with goals of 50% carb, 20% protein, 30% fat.
-
I only eat foods I like. Fortunately, the majority of those could also be regarded as healthy ('cept yesterday... a load of french fries at lunch and pizza for dinner - but still hit my macro targets and only went a little over on cals).
-
Why did you have to post this? Now I have a craving for one!

Post-workout breakfast with plenty of protein: 3-egg vegetarian omelette (tomato, onion, green pepper, broccoli, cheddar), hash browns, buttered rye toast, and a giant bottle of water
-
Vegetarian here... not quite vegan, though getting closer every day.
-
Todays goals: get to bed WAY earlier (5.5 hours of sleep is not enough), eat over 100g of protein, and stay under my exercise-adjusted calorie limit.

I spoke with a female friend about her new running shoes. She's able to wear children's sizes and saves LOTS of money in the process. I hope you find something that works for you!
-
Especially their dark roast! One of my Canadian buddies (now living in Michigan) swears it's better over there.
-
Cool, I'm not the only one who thinks like this! I don't find it burdensome at all. There are times I have to estimate - eating in non-chain restaurants, for example - and those can induce a bit of stress. But I have a lot of fun with logging otherwise!

Special K protein cereal, almond/cashew milk, hazelnut coffee with skim milk and one packet of sugar

That's the right attitude. Too many vegans give off a holier-than-thou vibe, and I can't stand it. Yet, people assume I'm judging them by the simple fact that I don't eat meat, regardless of whether I talk about it.
-
Good question! I can't eat meat because it makes me sick to my stomach - not psychologically (as in getting distressed about the manner in which animals are treated), but physically. I wish I could, though. It would make meal planning easier, especially on days when I'm struggling to hit my protein goal.
-
If I ignore my exercise calories, I lose way too quickly. Then again, I tend to OVER-estimate my food consumption.
-
Yes, I do... you're doing a great job. Keep at it!

I've lost 30 pounds in 6 months. About half the folks who comment ask whether I've been sick. My doctor put it this way... consider that the average person's BMI (as bad a measurement as that may be) is about 5-7 points higher than mine. The person asking whether I'm sick is just using him/herself as the norm and assuming…

I had my annual physical this morning, and my doctor related a story along these same lines. One of his patients saw him jogging at 6:00 AM one morning. The doctor is very fit - a competitive martial artist - so the patient asked, "why are you doing that when you don't HAVE to?" Doc responded, "um, because I CAN?" Yep.…

Congratulations! That's a great accomplishment!

That's fantastic! Congratulations!

My cadence increased when I switched to a forefoot strike.

This was such an important revelation!

Haha, me too... though I found an alternative at Meijer last night for $0.79. It can't replace Fage, but it's the best alternative I've found so far. Dannon and Chobani are NASTY.

There are several in our area, and only one of them is worth the effort. But it's impossible to feed our family of 6 on one income without shopping at Aldi!
