I just stopped participating in office potlucks years ago. I am a vegetarian and literally the only thing I could eat was what I had brought myself. Never mind that so many of the dishes would've been easy to make in a vegetarian version (green beans without the bacon, vegetable broth instead of chicken broth in the…

I find chia seeds annoying because of the gelling behavior. I used to put them in smoothies but they would stick to the blender cup or my glass and be hard to clean out, but of course my dishwasher would manage to get the unnoticed ones from the cup and promptly stick them to plates and other items. You can bake them into…

I can't do shakes on their own, either. Too gritty. But I use protein powder in smoothies in the morning. I try whatever I have samples of at the time. My personal favorite is whey because of the texture. I like 8 oz almond milk, tablespoon of ground flax, 1/2 tablespoon of PB2, tablespoon of protein powder, 1/2 tablespoon…

I work out at night, after work. Usually at some point between 6:30 and 9 (depends on what else I have going on). I eat lunch around 2 and have a piece of fruit at 3 or 4, but that's all. So I guess that counts as fasted? Sort of? I do pretty intense cardio (Insanity, Focus T25, etc.) a lot of days and if I have food in my…

I didn't look at a ton of days but one thing I am seeing is that you are going over on sodium every day I did look at. That can lead to water retention, which could mask any actual losses on the scale. So one suggestion would be to eat fewer packaged/processed foods. It makes the prep time longer in many cases, but it…

I lost 45 pounds starting in January 2016 (size 10 maybe) and ending in mid-December 2016 (size 0/2). Calories were 100% of that. I didn't pay the least bit of attention to tracking macros. I was eating low fat, high carb (fiber), if I had to generalize, because it was easier to eat more physical bulk that way, which…

I gained weight three times as a vegetarian and lost it three times as a vegetarian! My husband remains skinny as a rail although he eats meat a few times a week. The daftest weight loss things I have heard from coworkers: (1) Various cleanses they have tried (and been miserable on, and ultimately had no results from) (2)…

Nope, no changes here at all. But, I have been terribly nearsighted (like 20/200) for as long as I can remember; have worn glasses or contacts since age 5 (am now 39), also have astigmatism and have had surgery three times for an eye muscle imbalance, so perhaps I am not the best example. My contacts WERE driving me crazy…

This one is a few years old (back when this song was new): Dear Coworker with a ringtone set to "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys, I don't know who you are, but if you walk away from your desk one more time and let your phone ring for 2 minutes, I am going to find out and throw your phone down the elevator shaft. On a related…

This happened to me, too. It took me quite a few weeks to lose the last 2-3 pounds. During that time, I did continue to lose inches (mostly around stomach, butt, and thighs). Hit my goal weight in early December. Recorded another loss of inches on January 1 (I only check this once per month). Since then, my size 2 pants…

It always saddens me that they do the pyramid stuff. Because I really love their exercise programs. You just have to be careful when ordering that you don't get tricked into something with recurring charges. My "coach" is hands off -- have never once heard from him/her. Fine by me. I don't want overpriced shakes.

I would die. That's like 50% of my diet right there...

I'm the exact opposite. I grew up in Missouri (outside Kansas City) and I pretty much never saw grits until I moved to Georgia. And I can't bring myself to eat grits, no matter what.

For me it is Pringles. Once my grandparents let me eat every bit of junk food I wanted, including an entire can of Pringles. It made me throw up. Never wanted to touch those since and it has been like 30 years.

I am a vegetarian so the obvious answer is meat, but I assume the point of this thread is hating a food that we have no objections to consuming otherwise (because of allergies, religious reasons, etc.). So, mushrooms. I can't even touch them without shuddering. It's totally a texture thing. (Unfortunately, mushrooms abound…

I have to wash my hair every day or I feel gross. (No criticism intended for anyone who takes a different approach.) I only shampoo the roots, not the ends (my hair is waist length) and then I use a little hair oil on the roots and scalp (really, only a few drops are needed) after my shower, while my hair is still wet. I…

Oh, goodness. My parents asked me about this last night. I hadn't read this thread and hadn't heard of this, but have lost 45 pounds in the last year or so and have a PhD in biochemistry so I guess they figured they would see what I thought of some video they'd watched. I pointed out that taking macronutriets from food and…

Movie theater popcorn can have ~1000 calories for a large, with 40 or more grams of fat. And of course sodium. (Which is why it tastes WAAAAAY better than the 100 calorie individual serving microwave bags that I allow myself to eat.)

I'm a 118-119 pound woman. It is getting harder and harder for me to get 1000 calorie workout days. I basically have to do about the hardest Insanity DVD I can and follow that up with 60+ minutes of kettlebell/plyometrics intervals. (And yes I eat back the calories and am doing OK in maintenance so far.) It is not worth it…

I was eating like 50-60% carbs (not excess sugar, but fiber and some starch from whole grains, vegetables, etc.) while I lost weight (45 pounds). So low carb is absolutely not essential to weight loss. It is a type of diet that some people find easier to follow (obviously not me). In the next 6 weeks in 2017, I just want…

Also, don't get discouraged if the first yoga you try is not your thing. There are a lot of different class types. For example, I hate vinyasa with a passion (flowing sequence from one pose to the next) but I don't mind static poses and I really like kundalini yoga (which I do every day).

My aunt and uncle changed my cousin's name when he was a couple of months old. No idea why (went from being named after my uncle to a different, but kind of similar, name). It took me awhile to understand (I was only 4 at the time), but 35 years later, my cousin is doing just fine. Fit and healthy, college graduate (though…

I lost 45 pounds this year only counting calories. I am a vegetarian and I've kind of settled into low fat/high carb because it works for me (with the carbs coming mostly from whole grains, beans, and starchy vegetables). I am just not all that interested in consuming a lot of protein (usually it makes me feel sluggish and…

I've been maintaining for under two weeks...I ate a Reese's Peanut Butter Christmas Tree last weekend. Never before would I have use like 170 calories on such a thing. It was about the most delicious thing I have tasted in a long while (plus it fit within my calorie goals). I lost eating mostly high carb (fiber), low fat,…

I lost 45 pounds and my cellulite looks much better (my BMI in my maintenance range is 19.5-19.7 or so; I don't have much in the way of hips or a butt, in fact, my waist is one pants size larger than my rear end!). I admit to having tried creams in the past (all price ranges) and they're not worth it. Basically nothing…

I did not even know this was a thing. I have a kundalini yoga DVD where you are supposed to do this a whole bunch of times in a row and I always just did it (I'm not as fast as the demonstrator but I can do about 8 while she does 10 or 11). I have to cross my legs like that to get up again when I do deck squats with a…

For an alternate perspective, I can't stand Leslie Sansone or Jillian Michaels. (Not criticizing anyone who likes them. I have a fondness for 1990s step aerobics so I don't have any room to talk. To each his/her own. But those two are not for me. I find myself too fit to be the least bit challenged by Walk Away the Pounds…

I was thinking along a similar line. My husband can eat way more (like 500-1000 calories more per day) than I can and not exercise and stay skinny as a rail. Whereas I am eating smaller portions, choosing restaurant meals without tons of cheese and oil, and doing cardio like mad. We are the same age. He is 8 inches taller…

Even as I get compliments on my weight loss, I run into people unwilling to listen. I cannot tell you how many times people in my office have done "detoxes" or "cleanses" and then wondered why the weight came back a week later. And yet, they continually embark on new nonsense quests with more "detoxes" and "cleanses" as if…
