It's appropriate to expect you to pay 1/2 of the expenses. If he's asking for more than 1/2 then NO. Asking you to pay your own way is appropriate, making a profit from living with you is not!

Me too.

OP, I don't know where you live but I always feel a little sluggish this time of year and I don't even live where it's cold so DebLaBounty might have a point about SAD. Until the holidays the excitement and activities keep me going but after the first of the year . . . blah. This year I actually booked a short (5 day)…

Lots of starch which turns into glucose once digested.

I just came off of a two week course of steroids for pneumonia w/asthma exacerbation. I wanted chocolate so badly I thought about eating the unsweetened cocoa powder in my cabinet. I didn't see your previous thread requesting help but it looks like you've got a lot of good suggestions in this thread. What about something…

Wow. Sugar and *kitten*! They must be quite the mess!

In my office, three of the four of us are watching our diets, either due to weight issues or health issues. What irks me is outside vendors, knowing that three of us can't eat that crap, bringing in candy, doughnuts, etc., and leaving them on our desks and in our office! One vendor used to bring in fruit and vegetable…

OP, I'm a nurse (an actual Registered Nurse with a degree, and a license and everything!) I'm not sure what you mean by "have a large tummy" but if you mean that you have a megacolon, please see a gastroenterologist, or, if that's not possible, your primary care provider (not someone who "works in digestive health"…

I'm used to cooking for a lot of people but now it's just me and my adult son. Needless to say, re-learning portions has been a long, slow process. My five dogs happily eat whatever leftovers they can safely consume (they're a healthy weight and quite active) and sometimes my cats will assist, as well. OP, I don't know…

I am very close to someone who has been diagnosed with clinical depression. I think if you asked him, he would tell you the worst part of it for him was the insomnia. Once he began taking medication he began sleeping and I willingly, happily listen to him recount the joys of a good night sleep! He's been on the medication…

I don't think there's a full service gas station within 100 miles of me, so, yeah, I pump my own.

I love unsweetened soy and almond milk but then, even as a child I couldn't stand the taste of milk. I think this decision is a totally personal one, though, because I've never heard that milk is a problem. However, the American Diabetes Association would have good info:…

Agreed. I was born and raised in Kansas but I live in Las Vegas now. It was 60+ degrees and sunny here today. A perfect winter day!!

This ^^ You look amazing! Congrats on your transformation!

I just recently took a trip (the first time in many years). I went to Philadelphia and one of the things I did was visit the Museum of Art. I'm a Van Gogh fan but that was the first time I'd ever been able to see a Van Gogh up close. I used my favorite painting for my profile.

Me too except I have to eat a meal (not a large one, but 300-400 cals) about 1/2 hour before exercising or I end up on the floor. ETA: I usually take a protein shake with me as well, just in case I begin to feel dizzy or nauseous because for me that's a sure sign of hypoglycemia.

Carbs cause a spike in blood sugar then a swift descent, leading to more intense hunger pangs. Protein is digested more slowly and does not cause the rapid spike. http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/53/9/2375.long Granted the focus of the study was on diabetics, but the information does correlate to those with…

I can't work out without eating first, I just become lethargic. Since I work out first thing in the morning, I eat a normal breakfast (which for me means high protein, moderate carbs and some fat) before exercising, then, if the workout is strenuous, I'll have some Greek yogurt, nuts or a protein shake after, but that's…

Kullerva hasn't done the research and doesn't know what she's talking about. I've been on Nutrisystem for a while and am on the diabetic flex program, which means that Nutrisystem sends me breakfast, lunch and snack entrees and I provide my own dinner. I've been successful on the program and am using the flex program for…

I exercise for fitness...but also for IPAs on the patio. No way I could maintain my weight and enjoy my IPAs if I didn't ride as much as I do. I even have a jersey that says "I will ride for beer"... Mine says, "Two things I like to lift (a) Dem weights (b) Dat fork"

Three weeks ago I downloaded "Never Binge Again" and it's changed my life. I've never gone more than a few days without binging and never more than a few hours without craving something but since I've begun Livingston's program I've been able to not only control my inner "Pig" and stop binging but I've noticed a…

Maybe you're looking at this wrong. If you look at is as, "temptation will always be all around me, if I can get through the temptation presented by the s/o, I can ignore temptation at work, the grocery store, the TV, etc." In other words, use the hubby's unhealthy eating habits (your words) to strengthen your willpower,…

I have never heard of Halo Top, but now that I have, I must try it!

I just walked by a table selling Girl Scout cookies in the foyer of my local Walmart. Little green innocent-looking devils! (The girls, not the cookies!)

As a nurse myself, a parent of three grown children, and an animal lover, I have to say . . . get out. Now. Take the dog, he didn't sign up for this crap either. Your parents did. If you can't take the dog with you, leave him with a no-kill animal shelter. It sounds like he'd be better off.

Perhaps a back brace like one construction workers and warehouse workers use would help?

This. When they're cooked the taste and, worse, consistency changes.

I used to think I was invisible if I closed my eyes . . .

Good on you UncleMac! At least you realize it!
