Incorrect information. Aka "broscience."

I'm a middle-aged female (hopefully I'll live to be 104) and I have never had trouble with the young guys. I can outswear any of them and if I ask not only will they let me use the equipment, if I ask them, they'll be glad to talk my leg off teaching me how to use it.

+1. I was a lacto/ovo vegetarian and lost weight, then seemed to gain it all back and then some. Part of it was binging. I would binge on cheese, nuts, fruit, rice, bread and meat "replacements." Plus, my blood sugars became high. I started eating meat again (I'm not happy about that either!) and my blood sugars came down…

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant constructed almost entirely of carbohydrates which aids in weight gain and poor food choices. Marijuana is a known appetite stimulant, that's one reason why cancer patients do so well on it and why stoners eat so many Cheetos. Chronic pot use has been linked to a decrease in…

That's interesting that you think that because massage therapy is also an alternative treatment. OP, if EO works for you, use it.

Increasing my exercise and ending my demonization of food.

I would pass out before 9 AM if that was all I ate for breakfast, but some people aren't big breakfast eaters. If it sustains you until your next scheduled meal go for it.

I can't really say that I get belly bloat from white bread but I have noticed that my blood sugar will rise to crazy high levels if I eat anything made from white flour. This doesn't happen with whole wheat bread, pasta, pastries, etc. I wish I could try it but I've had to lay off the white flour for good. I am interested…

I wish I could give you a simple answer to this but I can't. The answer is: it depends. Hypertension can be liked to heart rate if it's linked to heart disease or arrhythmia of some sort. If the hypertension is essential hypertension, meaning there is no known cause, then the heart rate and blood pressure could be linked…

That's the spirit OP!! I binge when I'm stressed. If I feel like a failure because I "gave in" and went to McDonalds (or Taco Bell, or Sonic, or In&Out, etc. . . .) that causes stress and guess what? I binge. I packed my lunch today before I went to work but the company brought in Panda Express to celebrate Nurses' Day and…

Spaghetti and meatballs or chicken breasts cooked in the crockpot. I can use the chicken breasts for all kinds of dishes! (What can I say? I learned to economize by raising a family of 5 on one paycheck!)

Great thread!

Are you kidding? Working out around really buff people (men and women) motivates me more than anything! Most of the guys and girls (to a lesser extent) that cut were willing to give me their time and advice and help me with my form. Far from hating hearing bodybuilders grunt, groan and make strange noises, I love it. The…

Your body and mind need rest as well as exercise.

Thank you @EddieP50. I've been trying to find this article and couldn't.

Usually salt is limited to 2 GM (2,000 mg) of sodium/day total. Much lower than that and you can become hyponatremic.

Chocolate. Definitely chocolate. And Mexican food. Or Indian food. And macaroni and cheese, or cheese without the macaroni. Oh, yeah, I forgot whipped cream. MMMMMMMM . . . whipped cream!

Awwwww, you beat me to it! :) OP, ask any orthopedic surgeon (I know several); nothing is harder on your knees than extra weight.

I LOVE #2! I've been saying this for years and been told to shut up! It's true, if we didn't judge people we would have close relationships with everyone we meet, and we don't. #1 is also golden. Instead of forcing yourself to love your body unconditionally, change it so you can love it.

1. On both scales, weigh something with a known weight. Use the scale that weighs the closest to the known weight. Throw the other one out. 2. Throw them both out and get a new, hopefully accurate, one.

At 53 I'm much more active than I was in my 20s and 30s, but that's because I gained weight in my 20s and 30s and now I have to move around - a lot - to mitigate the damage. If I weren't concentrating on moving my *kitten*, it would be widening even faster than it did in my 20s and 30s.

Too much of anything is bad for you. Sodium used in moderation is fine. In fact, you need some sodium in your diet. Hyponatremia, or low sodium in the blood, can be deadly. The problem comes when too much sodium causes water retention which then leads to things like hypertension, which also leads to heart disease, renal…

Feeling Good by David Burns. It's not really about binge eating, it's more about depression, but that's usually why bingers binge. There is a section on binging. He teaches people with depression and other depressive behaviors to "talk back" to their behavior so they don't allow the behavior to rule their lives.
