  • Thanks everyone! I’ve been giving stuff a try and will check those out!
  • From my point of view, if that is what you want to do, I’d say go for it 💪 And you will be better off doing just that than not doing it at all 👍
  • 60 pounds is well past “finally” losing weight! Incredible work, keep it up!
  • I’ve heard some people can take in energy from the sun. Like photosynthesis from Krypton.
  • I have struggled with the same. This is what I did, and it worked great for me. I ate as much damn fruit as I wanted. No, I didn’t crave the fruit. Didn’t want the fruit. Ate it anyway. I was surprised at how satisfied I felt after I ate it, despite not exactly wanting an apple or an orange. After a few days, the cravings…
  • Your metabolism is fine. However, be aware that psychotropic medications can make it easier to gain weight. I’m not sure the exact reasons for this but they can change your appetite, both in terms of what you like/crave and in terms of how much you want. That’s not to discourage you from taking the medication if it’s…
  • Ann, interesting stuff on this page (haven’t looked backwards on this thread). I rowed crew in high school, and enjoy the memories of being on the river. We had 8 (wo)man sculls with a coxswain. A great sport.
  • Thanks for the ideas, both. Sorry, didn’t explain, am hiding all this crap under my bed so just going with a make-do solution. Interesting about the squat idea. Will keep it in mind.
  • I could get 40 pounds on there, more than enough for me. Squats have been going better, actually kind of suddenly. I’ve been mixing up goblets, back squats, and just plain bodyweight squats as- to the mat. I still hate them but it’s like they have started coming into focus, best way I can describe it. So I think the bottom…
  • Damn, Tony, great update! Keep it up!
  • Since carbs lead you to retain water weight, carb cycling simply helps you retain and then dump water. So every few days you see a drop when you let go of the water. If it’s fun, go for it. It doesn’t have anything to do with fat loss, though.
  • How is it going at your 100 day mark?
  • You are right! Keep going! I have to say, 1.5kg a week is QUITE fast. I am hoping much of that was water weight and that you are not losing much muscle. Just curious what rate of weight loss you were expecting/hoping for? Keep it up and after a while you will be very glad you did. I lost 0.3kg per week over six months and…
  • Thanks for the suggestions, will check those out. Currently use Google Sheets, there’s just nothing like a spreadsheet. But I did enjoy some things about the app, it was easy to keep track of sets as I went, there was a timer for rests between sets, and as I mentioned, I got the credit for the workout on my Move ring. MFP…
  • Thanks for sharing your experience! Outstanding work on the weight loss, and great analysis.
  • 20% deficit might be a lot. For me, that would put me under the minimum since my TDEE is very low. Maybe try a smaller deficit?
  • Are you new to running? I had this exact same thing, including it being the right foot, when I started. Very uncomfortable, and worrying as I feared nerve damage. It went away after a couple of weeks. Entirely. Hopefully that will be the case for you?
  • It might be salt or stress, but even more likely it’s not anything at all. We don’t lose at a programmed rate of 4 ounces per day or anything like that. It’s a natural process.
  • A pound a week is already pretty aggressive in terms of loss rate. Give it more time. Don’t quit.
  • Thanks Retro, would definitely like to avoid herniated disc et al. Claire, I had experimented and arrived at my somewhat wider and knees out stance, after the standard narrow and straight ahead stance felt utterly wrong to me. When I adjusted, it went from “something is very wrong” to “oh, ok, I can do this.” Peazoo, I…
  • Great ideas. I’m quite sure I’m not acheiving a neutral spine. I have a Planet Fitness membership so I can use the treadmill (I can’t jog unaided on the street) and I see they offer some form of group fitness training, included in membership. Not sure if that includes a look at form but plan to check it out. Also, I agree…
  • Will butt wink kill or maim me? Claire, I think you’re right, I need someone to watch me and tell me what I’m doing wrong. I have low vision (blind) so watching videos is of limited help and I can’t see myself in the mirror. If I can get a single session for a limited cost, I’d like that. Wouldn’t raising my heels compound…
  • I did the stretches today along with the squats. Too early to say if it improved my form or not, but will definitely keep doing them because if nothing else, I could really feel my calves loosen up over the period of time I did them.
  • Just wandering in since I’m new to maintenance and definitely feel like it’s uncharted territory for me. I see this is an older yet ongoing thread, but wanted to add a teeny thought on the “sobering” comment from a few months ago. If we can handle it - sobering, and humbling, is good. It makes us stronger. To wander…
  • Will try that today 💪
  • I hesitated before bumping this thread back up again, but why not. I’ve just kept working on the overhead press while not pushing it too hard, just letting my core catch up. I no longer feel like my back is weaker than my arms, they feel in sync. Which is great! I’ve been thinking scoliosis my be a big factor for me…
  • You can eat them. Because many people have found exercise calorie estimates to be inflated, a lot of people like to just eat half their exercise calories back. You can try to eat back some or all and see how it goes over the course of a few weeks and adjust from there as needed.
  • Hi and welcome! Your diet sounds great, and actually I’m taking notes because some of that sounds terrific. I can’t say whether the calories are at the right level for you. Did you get that suggested by MFP? What activity level did you select? The exercise sounds great. Can you keep it up long term?
  • I had 20 pounds to lose and I lost them. Weight loss takes focus and determination for all of us. Our brothers and sisters who have 100+ pounds to lose do not have it any easier and surely wish they had only 20 to take off. So let’s not direct our frustration in the wrong direction. As Ann mentioned above, it’s no…
  • I did not learn about engaging the abs. Thanks, will check that out. Have taken a few mirror selfies and I guess I do see what might be the scoliosis. And if I’m right (might not be) it’s directly affecting my abdomen. Hunh. Go figure. Fortunately, I can live with that. Maybe I can improve it with better core muscles and I…
