Stopping by to say hi!
I was posting for a while some time back. Just wanted to stop by and say hi to everyone. And to thank everyone for your support. I have been maintaining since last summer. I’m also still doing weight lifting. My progress is very slow but I’m doing okay for an almost 50 year old woman who has never been athletic. I’m happy…

Alternatives to sugar hit for workout?
I personally find my life is better when I avoid sugar. But it provides a really nice hit to fuel a workout. I definitely notice better performance when I eat a sweetened snack before working out. But I don’t like the other effects on me! Any suggestions? My ideas: - just quit eating sugar and deal with whatever level I…

Do I *have* to progress on cardio?
I use the treadmill two days a week for cardio, and lift three days a week. I’ve always been the absolute worst at jogging/running - no, worse than that. Bottom of the barrel. With intervals, I’ve made a small amount of progress in how long I can jog, over the past few months. But the progress has stagnated. I find myself…

Stronglifts app alternative?
I trialled the Stronglifts app. I liked it a lot and would have happily paid for it. Unfortunately, $40/year is honestly too steep for me. Anyone know of a good alternative? One feature I liked was that it wrote my workout to my Apple Health/Fitness app. I often don’t make my Move goal on lift days (no Watch), it’s nice to…

Overhead press without hurting back?
46 F non-althlete here. Just starting weights and looking fo build up some strength. My lower back has a weak spot that hurts sometimes if I strain it, no big deal but it’s annoying. I am hoping if I build up my core this might improve. I’d like to do some light overhead presses as part of my routine. The amount I can…

Back with belly concerns
I posted a while back wondering how much more I needed to lose given my belly is still big despite being at a decent weight. I decided to lose a few more pounds. I’m currently at 125lbs / 57kg (female, 5’ 5” / 165cm) and willing to go to 120 but kind of nervous about going under that. I’m definitely not looking to overdo…

Hula hoop - aerobic exercise?
For Reasons, I’m trying to figure out a replacement for the treadmill starting in the fall. I saw hula hooping as a suggestion somewhere. Is that really an adequate aerobic exercise? I’m hoping it is because I have some limitations and this could be a good solution. (Would continue with free weights as well, just looking…

How much more should I lose?
I’ve lost roughly 25 pounds and reached my original goal. But at 128 pounds / 58 kg (5’ 5”) I still have plenty of fat on my stomach and thighs. I’m a 46 year old mom. I just started a beginner weights program. I’m sure it will help things but it won’t make the remaining fat disappear. Do I look like I’ve got about 10…

4 foot barbell - bad idea?
I’m a 46 yo female non athlete looking to gain some strength with weights. I do not have room at home for a bench, and getting to a gym is difficult. I was thinking of getting a barbell to do barbell rows, overhead presses, and curls. Maybe deadlifts if it goes well and I buy more plates. Is there any reason I can’t just…

What unexpected benefits of healthy eating / weight loss have you experienced?
I thought it could be motivating to share some of the benefits we’ve seen, at any point in our journeys - beyond the usual things like fitting in clothes better (though feel free to mention that too!). I’ll start with these: - No more feeling woozy and weak Since I got off the blood sugar roller coaster, I stopped feeling…

Having trouble getting started: a question
I haven't started logging yet (initial goal is just losing weight).. But here's the problem I keep running into. I can handle feeling "hungry." But I feel unwell. I feel weak, tired. I don't have my usual patience. Right this minute I feel that way. I could go get something to eat, maybe just a snack. Then I would feel…

40s and very sedentary. Friend me.
I lost weight a few years ago on MFP, and now I'm back. Life has been incredibly hard in the last few years. Looking to get myself back together again, and could use some motivational buddies, to receive and GIVE motivation to. I'm looking to get my eating in better shape, mostly to keep my blood sugar steady. Getting to…

How to eat so I don't feel weak?
I can live with feeling hungry. But when I feel weak, I have to choose between eating something and going over my calorie limit, or not eating and being unable to function (work, be productive, interact with my family, just feel half decent). Perhaps my problem is blood-sugar related. I do not have diabetes. I am sensitive…
