  • I started 16:8 this week and today added Unsweetened tea to the mix and am going to shoot for oneish meal a day. I say oneish because on my TRX days I can drop 50 points on 25 minutes and I'm trying to balance my am dose of Metformin so I can avoid going hypoglycemic yet keep a reasonable BS level while fasting. Before I…
  • Good luck. Hopefully they can help.
  • You may want to ask your doctor to check your thyroid and hormone levels.
  • If you're exercising, make sure you take measurements. Inches lost are better than pounds lost. The extra muscle will help burn calories.

  • I always thought O was the oldest and then ran across your post. Did some more digging and found this: http://m.livescience.com/20030-ice-mummy-oldest-blood-cells.html
  • My O- makes LCHF perfect for me, except I'm not supposed to eat pork.
  • One thing you could try is to restrict yourself to the foods for your blood type but still do LCHF. Pork is on my do not eat list and I don't think I can totally give up bacon. :)
  • I appreciate the link, I will check it out. It looks like there is more to learn. I'm glad I was directed to this forum. I'm also on TRT and my estradiol levels seem to have spiked and it looks like it's futzing with my blood sugar as well.
  • What is your morning blood sugar? If it's that low in the am your doctor should be ok with you lowering your dose a bit at a time.
  • The sad part is I did most of that without counting carbs specifically. Last month I bought a Garmin Vivosmart HR and started tracking things. Right now I'm trying to target about 15% carbs, 40% fat and 45% protein. I'm not getting all the protein I want so may have to bump the fat up instead. I'm definitely have times…
  • My wife had some thyroid and other hormone issues that went undiagnosed for years. She also gained weight and found it almost impossible to lose it. You may want to check with your doctor about doing some blood work so you can rule it out.
  • I've been having at least one stick of string cheese when I eat any fruit. Maybe that would help with your spikes.
  • Thanks. I used to see how few carbs I could eat and how deep into ketosis I could get. I'd do well for awhile then lose my mind and binge big time. This time around I kept my carb count low enough to get and stay in trace ketosis but didn't shoot for anything higher. With a few months of that under my belt I really lost my…
  • That's great news. I saw your earlier post and was going to ask if he'd gotten into ketosis at all yet. When I weighed my heaviest, starting the low carb diet was miserable. It probably took me 2 - 3 weeks to finally get into ketosis.
  • Also take body measurements. If you're exercising enough you should see inches lost instead of pounds.
  • I never did it for more than a couple of days at a time. I'm almost OCD with it but noticing trends I would not have had I not been logging regularly. More info is good. You won't need to weigh food much. After awhile you'll know what something weighs and not think so much about it.
  • Low carb for me means hitting at least a trace amount of ketosis, which will limit me to < 100g of carbs a day. I do like the advice of doing 2 weeks at about 20g of carbs just so you get past the worst of the cravings. I used to try for deep ketosis by limiting carbs as much as possible but couldn't keep it up. I'd binge…
  • I've been on Metformin for 12 years at 1000mg 2x a day. I weighed 320lbs at one point and then have hovered in the 285-300 lb range for ~10 years. My morning blood sugars were rising from 130 to 197. I went on Glyburide for a bit to help counter that. Worse, my numbers would only continue to go up until I had eaten some…
  • I have had Type II for about 10 years. With ~40 lbs lost I've been able to lower my Metformin from 1000mg 2x a day to 850mg. I'm happy to offer whatever advice I can.
  • @KnitOrMiss and @Sunny_Bunny_ This is what I've been buying: Cardiovascular Research - Magnesium Taurate, 125 mg, 180 capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OP5N12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_4e81wbW0WGSXP If you find something similar, but cheaper, let me know. I take 2-4 per day.

  • I hadn't heard of keto adaptation before and am curious about it. In years past I had tried to get and stay as deep into ketosis as I could and ultimately bounced out after binging. This last 40 lbs has come off while in a state of trace ketosis for the most part. How deep into ketosis do you need to be for keto adaptation…
  • My A1C never hit diabetes levels, but I do suffer from neuropathy. As I've lost weight and my blood sugar has come down, I get some sensation at night that my doctor said is likely from the nerves healing. Some nights I wear socks to help with that. We'll see how much of the numbness goes away over time.
  • I use magnesium taurate as it doesn't have the digestive side effects of magnesium citrate and some others.

  • They make the best low-carb pizzas. I usually cut one of them in half for a pizza. If you bake a sheet for about 10 minutes, you get great low-carb crackers.
  • I'm new to the forum so this post may not be the best way to introduce myself, but here goes anyway. I know I'll be in the minority, but I prefer a low carb, reasonable fat diet with the remainder in protein. I've been overweight most of my life and while I've had the most success following Atkins, I found it difficult to…
