  • From what I've read, a continuous fast is better, but harder for people to do. I got used to 16:8 and just finished a 36 hour fast and didn't even do the bone broth. I'm going to shoot for that twice a week and see how it goes.
  • Completed my first 36 hour fast without anything but water, tea and diet soda (a no-no, but I do the best I can). Going to focus on staying in ketosis and bump my carbs up on my training days another 25 - 50g, but that's about it.
  • Don't look at it as failing. I can manage 16 hour fasts but don't often get to 24 or 36. 3.5 days rocks.
  • Eat what you would normally. Definitely don't binge to try to make up the lost calories.
  • No recipes, but the Mission Carb Balance are very good. My favorite is Joseph's Lavash bread with flax. If the food is really soggy, the tortillas are better.
  • I bounce from low carb to moderate carb depending on my strength training days. I've tried to do 16:8 IF most every day. Sometimes I'll go longer or shorter depending on what life throws at me.
  • Outstanding!
  • Your mileage may vary. My recent understanding is that even too much protein can knock you out of ketosis. Fat is the only macro that won't do that.
  • As long as you're doing the IF then your metabolism shouldn't slow down if you're reducing your caloric intake too much. Should just stay revved up.
  • One step at a time! I can do 16:8 or 18:6 pretty easily these days. 24 - 36 is still a bit more difficult for me.
  • An article by Dr. Jason Fung talks about reversing T2 diabetes by getting rid of the visceral fat around the liver and pancreas. The thought is that the fat is clogging up the pancreas and once the fat is gone, the pancreas starts working properly again. I do DexaScans and I lost 1.35lbs of visceral fat. I'm down to 4.47…
  • I had not heard the term, before, but familiar with what is is after looking it up. For how long do you dry fast at a time? I've not tried it, but have heard of one professional football player who won't drink during Ramadan, even though he's doing practice sessions.
  • A1C's can be a decent indicator, but if you have a blow out and spike your blood sugar, the A1C could show higher than should. I've been logging my BG readings each time I test so I can use that more of a gauge. I'm still higher in the am than elsewhere in the day, so trying to take that into account.
  • Like you I'll be fine until I start eating. Had a problem with late night snacking I think I've finally got a handle on. Start bingeing on protein and fat first, then be bad with carbs. That may help you from over-doing it.
  • That sounds like a 20:2 fast. I'd say if it works for you then go for it. My calorie requirements are hard to meet in 2 hours. I'm back to trying 24 hour fasts 2-3 times a week so we'll see if that works. 16:8 and 18:6 has been very doable for me after easing into it. Keep up the good work!
  • I haven't experienced that yet. Are you eating lunch quickly? I've started adding more soup to my diet - you might try a bowl of soup first and see if that helps the nausea.
  • Feel free to add me, if you want. I just got back from 2 weeks in Alaska and was not a very good boy but had a very good time. :)
  • My wife experiences that sometimes. Her recent blood labs showed low testosterone and her T4 was a little low.
  • 107. I had dropped my Metformin in April because my strength training was messing with my blood glucose and causing some hypoglycemia. However, the last couple of weeks I'd been seeing 120 - 150 fasting blood glucose and finally had enough. Switched to 500mg of Metformin XR and that seems to be doing the trick. I hope to…
  • Pure protein!
  • The cool part is when you do it, you probably will feel good that day. I try to low carb as much as I can. It's hard to just nibble on something sweet at times - I want to devour it.

  • I'll see MFP sometimes log exercises twice, but at different caloric levels. I'm not sure why. Often I delete the extra to avoid getting credit I don't deserve and better not eat.
  • I started by sipping a protein shake over the course of a few hours to curb the hunger. Occasionally I'll have some hot and sour soup that's about 17 cals per 8 oz, but I'm now at the point where I can handle 16:8 fairly easily and have gone 24 hours without anything but non-caloric liquids. Just takes time to adapt. I…

  • Since I last wrote this I've bounced around a bit doing different timeframes, depending on how I feel. How are you doing with your journey?

  • I've managed some 24 and 36 hour fasts - I'm trying to listen to my body while I figure out some insomnia issues. Today I was shooting for 32 hours or so, but may have to cave before 24. I'm putting on some muscle so there's hunger pangs I can ignore and then there's hunger pangs that will not let me sleep. Trying…
  • There are a number of nights I've been able to ride it out. The last 2 nights when I woke up, I just ate 2 strawberries and went back to bed. That seemed to do it. There are times it's better, but when I go off, I really go off. I will definitely check out the video and check out the launch pad.
  • It is nice to not have to worry about food during fasting days. I've managed a couple of 24 hour fasts and one 36 hour fast so far. Yes, it is interesting to see MFP refuse to log calories when you eat too little.
  • @RalfLott - Thanks. Some of this I'm already trying and there are some supplements I want to order based on that. I'd been in trace ketosis for a good 4 months with my initial weight loss and didn't have sleeping issues. IF can give you extra energy, which I have experienced, but I didn't start that until April, so…
  • @RalfLott - Your timing is good. I've been struggling lately. I hit a low of 246.4 after adding Intermittent Fasting, but running into issues waking up at night after an hour or so of sleep and then over eating carbs to get back to sleep. Naturally that's halted my progress. I'm still off the Metformin and my blood sugar…
