Thanks for that. I'm of a similar mindset - better to get them down you, full stop. I just wondered what the degree of nutrient loss was, but I suppose that's more dependent on how they're cooked.

I grew up loathing brussels sprouts, thanks to dad boiling them to within an inch of their lives, before splodging them, unseasoned and soggy, on my plate... Fortunately, I found a simple recipe that made them delish - slice them in two, brush with oil, roast in the oven, season, drizzle with garlic oil and toss with some…

Good ideas, both. I think going out for these treats is the way forward, it's too easy when it's in the house, and somehow, I think I'd be more likely to have less if I'd had to purposely go out to get it. Treating Monday as just another day, so far!

Roughly 150 grams. If for some unknown reason I wanted to eat less, I'd have to cut out my fruit, veg and oats, and that ain't happening!
-
Stir fry, with garlic, chillies, noodles and sesame oil.
-
Beansprouts. Add to average-sized stir-fry to create HUGE stir-fry. 50 calories for about 150g.
-
Eggs for me. A good scramble or a two-egg omelette keeps me full for hours.
-
A hefty shake of cinnamon mixed in with the Greek yoghurt goes well with some sliced apple to dip in. Great for satiety too.

Make sure you're weighing everything you eat accurately, too - those calories can sneak in. Proverbs 11: "Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight"

Just remember every time you used to significantly notice someone having a induction at your old gym, and how much you stared. It'll be just like that (I'm guessing... NEVER)!
-
Word. Very well done for what you've accomplished!

Perseverance. Well done, Megaman

Sauces (as well as oil) can bump up the calories. Gochujang (hot pepper paste, Korean) is good as a little goes a long way. Tamarind paste is low-cal and is a great base for making your own sweet 'n sour as ready made sauces can have too much added sugar. If you can find OK sauce, however, you'll enjoy it if you like a…

Just realised, I suppose I should offer some practical advice! Such was my love of it, I found the only way to go was cold turkey. I initially tried just keeping little cheese 'cubes' in (about 20 calories each) to satisfy cravings, but I'd find that I'd just want to eat the lot of them. Of course, certain meals lend…

Cheese. Cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese. Cheese on toast. Cheese on baked beans. Four-cheese pizza, made into a five-cheese pizza at home by adding more cheese. Cheese on a burger, both on top and on the bottom of the beef. Ham and cheese sandwich. Cheese and crackers. Smoky cheese spread. Sausage wrapped in bacon, with…

Yes, but I was talking rather more generally about faddish thinking and the pursuit of novelty, appertaining to the article itself.

Whenever people find out someone is trying to lose weight, I've noticed a common question is, "Oh, what diet are you on?" As if there has to be a label. A fad. A title. A certain method, maybe involving apple cider vinegar or activated almonds. Something, ANYTHING to avoid the boring, prosaic truths contained in that…

Vodka or gin, with slimline tonic is around 70 calories for a single measure. If that's not your thing, stick with a regular glass (175 ml) of white wine, usually around 150 calories.

About an hour before a workout, I have oatmeal, just made with water, with a spoon of crunchy peanut butter swirled in for a little protein and fat, and some chia seeds for added benefits. Roughly 350 calories, gives me the energy to make a decent job of cardio, and keeps me full for hours.

It's great for adding extra depth of flavour to a stir fry. A quick splash in certain Asian soups is yummy too. Beware, though, don't ever spill it. EVER.

Some Greek yoghurt, with a pinch of cinnamon swirled into it, and a sliced apple to dip. Apples and Greek yoghurt are both famous for satiety; eat them together and you're onto a winner. Tastes great too! Sets you back around 80 calories.

Exactly. More sleep is what you need. If you don't have the time, make time, even if it's just an extra hour or two. I know that whenever I miss sleep, I CRAVE calories all the next day. My willpower takes a hit too.

I like my oatmeal thick and crunchy, I add a spoon of peanut butter and swirl it in. I add chia seeds too. Unfortunately, those ingredients together means the resulting concoction has the appearance of my great Aunty Nellie's skin... I try to read something while eating it... :s

Lots of good ideas, thanks everyone! I'm going with cornflour and a little tomato, though I think using a few beans to thicken it is a great idea too.
-
I like crunchy peanut butter in oatmeal for breakfast, especially before a workout. If you're getting PB craving later on in the day, half a spoonful in a little oatmeal (say, 25g) might assuage your cravings and fill you up at the same time.
-
Pre-workout brekkie: 45g oatmeal with water and a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter melted in. 287 calories. Yummy!

May I recommend sugar-free jelly? You can get sachets of powder that just need some hot water and a night in the fridge. If you don't want to make it, there are little pots that come in at a pitiful 10 calories, that give you that sweetness without breaking the calorie bank!
-
Do you like sweet potatoes? When I'm ravenous, I sometimes make a huge mound of sweet potato mash with a spoon of mustard swirled in. 300g is around 200 calories and is amazingly filling. Add a little protein (eg. lean skinless chicken) and some veg and you won't be hungry for a loooong time, I guarantee it. Oatmeal, made…

Fruit is good for you. It is full of vitamins and other nutrients. The idea that fruit is 'bad' is bizarre. If you keep to your calorie goals you will lose weight. Sugar-wise, if you're watching your levels for some reason, cut them from other sources. Legends say that King John died from dysentery, eating a quite…
