When we are mindful about eating out, my family (2 adults, 1 kid) can get by on $600 a month in an expensive area. We do not "eat clean," but we do cook from scratch, sometimes even including bread but not always. To keep to this budget, we cannot eat meat every day. It's just too expensive, so we do a lot of bean dishes.…

Same here! I've lost 33 pounds, and so has my husband. I can definitely tell a difference in myself, and so can my family, but everyone else comments on my husband's weight loss but not mine. Oh well...

I work similar hours and I have a long commute. In the very beginning trying to hit my step goal really sucked, but it got easier pretty fast. Can you walk or go to the gym during your lunch break? Most days I eat lunch at my desk and then go for a 30-45 minute walk. That usually takes care of half my daily steps. I agree…

I log as soon as I know what I'm going to be eating for the day. That usually means prelogging each morning (sometimes the night before) and then making adjustments as necessary if plans change. Prelogging helps me make good choices when I do change up a meal because I can see what fits in with the rest of the day's plan.

I just started getting serious about changing my diet/activity in February, but no, I have had no trouble losing weight. I have mirena. I'm sure others will chime in, but if you're actually burning 1500 calories from exercise 3-5 days a week and eating only 1000-1200 calories, that's far too little nourishment.

I've started planning indulgences around having people over or going out with friends. That way I know if we open (or order) a bottle of wine, it will be consumed that night among several individuals. For baked goods, I have always packed up the leftovers and sent to work with my husband, even before getting serious about…

This is probably a no-brainer, but have you talked to your spouse about your weight loss goals? I know that every time I have attempted to change my family's eating habits without clueing them into what's going on it hasn't gone so well. Make sure you give your spouse the opportunity to at least consider being supportive…

@revolucia78 I have what I think is a pretty good falafel recipe. It uses canned garbanzo beans, which I know some may consider sacrilege, but it keeps them from drying out while cooking. I do 2 cans mashed with 2 tsp cumin, 3-5 cloves of garlic(depending on how garlicky you like your food), a quarter cup each of chopped…

When you do lemon juice and olive oil do you add anything else? If not, you might want to try this. I half the olive oil, it's still awesome. Let it sit overnight so the flavors meld. It's great on bread, but we use leftovers to top salads.

About 65% percent of my grocery shopping happens at Trader Joe's. The other 35% at the local conventional grocery stores: Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter. One grocery trip typically involves 2 stops because there are some things that you just can't get/are not worth purchasing at TJ's.

Black bean salad with lime juice, cumin, cilantro, tomatoes, avocado, diced red onion, a dash of red wine vinegar, and some olive oil is delicious over salad greens. This might be a bit of a splurge, but there is an AMAZING recipe on food52 for a warm skillet of garbanzo beans, spinach, chorizo, and goat cheese. I think…
