I was wondering about physical exercise as well. It looks like what they eat was controlled, just different calories and additional whey for the high protein group. Oh look, they used Myfitnesspal.

Interesting study. I wish they did the same study on young women at the same time. The possible role of diminished / fluctuating levels of adrenal and thyroid hormones in menopause on insulin resistance and muscle metabolism was not discussed and could have something to do with it. Another thing that sort of made me wonder…

I used tofu once before I learned how to make paneer. OK in a pinch, but at this point, I'd rather just not make saag paneer if I can't have the paneer.

I did Nutrisystem. It worked. But... Food was really high in sodium and kind of gross. I learned nothing from it and gained it all back and more when I stopped. Wish I had just buckled down and started here. I had my "ah-ha!" moment when I realized that if I wanted to look like a fit person, I had to start acting like one.…

Yes! I have only done 4 weeks of Strong Curves so far and I am already seeing things change. Brett Contreras is THE glute guy. :)

By looking up foods you want to eat in the food database and logging them. Log before you eat so you can see how much a portion should be. Accurately measure how much food you eat and stay within your goal. Edit: the bolded

I would do 15-20g of fat and minimum 30g protein. But that's what works for me. Look at the bottom of your food diary. See your daily goals for calories, carbs, fats, protein? Divide each of those daily goals by 3 for a rough (very rough) estimate for dividing your 3 meals up (assuming you will eat 3 meals). Now you have…

Seriously, start your next meal with a good portion of protein. I would do 25g of it or more. Then add vegetables and fat.

Use plain greek yogurt. Add protein powder. I would recommend considering MFP's daily protein goal as a minimum. Eating adequate protein helps you retain muscle that you are otherwise losing while eating in a deficit. Hard boiled eggs, omelettes, salmon. And as others have already mentioned, nuts and nut butters are great…

Definitely naan. Wow, I am seriously craving Indian food now. I have dabbled a bit with cooking it. This dish is fairly easy to make. The first time I made the paneer, it felt like magic. So easy and so delicious. I highly recommend trying it out. This is my go-to recipe for saag paneer (scroll down a bit for directions…

Thanks for posting that! I hadn't thought of the possibility of being able to heat or reheat things in foil which you can't do in the microwave. I guess you lose the ability to heat things in plastic, but I try to avoid microwaving in plastic anyway.

The only problem with "boxed" carbs is overeating them.

I have been using this rice protein powder for my oats because it does not have that awful sweet flavor that comes with most of the whey products I've tried. It's not good for shakes because it is gritty, but it disappears perfectly in oatmeal and IMO adds very little flavor. I use whey powder for my post-workout shake. I…

Frittatas are also great because you can get several breakfasts out of them.

I've started eating oatmeal again, and love it! I make it with Fairlife brand milk, which has been filtered and has a higher protein content. I add some protein powder to round it out for protein, frozen blueberries, and chia seeds, sometimes a handful of nuts.

I would not assume that potassium deficiency is rare in developed countries. The USDA reports that potassium is one of the most under-consumed nutrients due to the fact that so many people do not eat enough plant-based foods.…

Too many calories makes you fat. They can be proteins, fats or carbs.

Best I've found with low calories is Low sodium V8: 700 mg potassium in 5.5 oz Coconut water: 660 mg in 11 oz Orange juice, greek yogurt, potatoes are also good sources. Potassium is now required to be on nutrition labels, but food manufacturers don't have to comply with it until July 2018. You can find potassium…

What are you concerned about regarding the treatment? Echoing the above, for many, it is just a matter of taking thyroid hormone pills; you just need to decide whether you prefer synthetic or natural, so look into both. You will probably have to have your blood tested more often to make sure that you are taking the right…

Keep fruit frozen and then you don't need to add ice cubes. Peel bananas, break them in half, and freeze them in a ziplock bag. I also use tons of frozen blueberries, raspberries, strawberries. Frozen chopped spinach and other greens are great to have too. My ritual: I prioritize protein in my shakes, so I usually use…

My buttocks visibly change shape and lift when I flex them. Thank you, Bret Contreras!

Bolthouse brand yogurt-based dressings are great.

Can you clean Vibrams? They just seem really gross with all the sweat and foot skin rubbing off in there.

I noticed while doing laundry that I had accidentally worn one of my daughter's turtlenecks and didn't even notice that I could wear a size small! On the flip side, I just bought 2 smaller bras. :/

This is why I had the question about how they enforced their policies -- i.e., how would a gym owner discourage a paying customer from behaving a certain way? I would assume that the gym owner does not wish to have confrontations and lose customers. Having an alarm takes away the face-to-face confrontation and takes away…

I had no idea that PF had an actual alarm that went off.
-
How do they enforce that?

Also: I found many cheap, used copies of NROLFW online, and only spent a few dollars on it.

I have both books. I borrowed them from the library and liked them both for different reasons so I purchased both. I chose doing Strong Curves first because it has a bodyweight/ at home workout. I purchased a pair of suspension straps, a pullup bar, and some pullup assist bands. I think that you can find plenty to do at…
