  • The thought has crossed my mind more than once.
  • Bookmarking this thread... I can't wait to try mine, but I can't open it until Christmas!
  • What do you think bananas are going to do to you? I would recommend comparing the amount of fiber instead of the amount of sugar or protein. Fruit is probably a better source of fiber than protein.
  • I also had problems with nutrisweet. I suffered from debilitating migraines off and on mixed with stay-in-bed-all-day vertigo. Went through all kinds of testing and nothing was found. One of the doctors mentioned offhand that I could "lay off the nutrisweet" since the symptom onset coincided with when my diet changed.…
  • Your trainer has probably considered the amount of calories you will burn given the activities he will prescribe for you. Another thing to consider, if your trainer has you on a path to gain muscle mass, he will not put you on a significant deficit, if any. Best you can do in a caloric deficit is try to maintain the muscle…
  • If your goal is weight loss, start by plugging your stats into myfitnesspal and get a daily calorie goal.
  • That wasn't my experience. Maybe I wasn't considered somebody who had large volumes of fat, but my surgeon was happy to serve me as I wished. And I saw a lot of his 'before and after' pics of people who had a lot more than just stubborn fat! :) Where did you get your 7x figure? Looking at an average cost of $1000 per area…
  • Just want to clarify the bolded which might be a bit ambiguous to newer users... you need a deficit of 500 calories per day from your daily maintenance calories to lose 1 lb per week.
  • Breakfast cereal, especially granola types. I used to eat Cracklin' Oat Bran every day and still could. I like a little more variety with my lunches and even moreso for dinners.
  • If your iron used to be low and now high, I would suspect that it changed when something changed about your lifestyle. Think about any and all changes to your diet, medications, and menstruation since it was low. If your doctor does determine that it is hemochromatosis, as others have stated it is fairly easily controlled.…
  • How intense are your workouts? Some people experience bloating issues related sodium imbalance. That might be a question for your doctor. But since you specifically mentioned your abdomen, possible reasons for abdominal bloat: You could be accidentally swallowing a lot of air when you are doing strenuous exercise. You…
  • Three for this week: Finished 2nd week of Strong Curves bodyweight at home. My new favorite jeans are a size 8 skinny. I keep doing double takes when I walk by a mirror - can't believe it's me! My wedding ring is annoyingly loose, so need to find a ring guard.
  • This was driving me crazy too. From what I have read so far (shady sources), the fat is affected at a higher temperature than where skin or nerve damage occurs. The biggest issue comes with the length of time it takes to see results and the expense of multiple treatments required. Liposuction gets it done faster and…
  • Joined: to track calories in order to lose weight. Helpful: tracking progress, support from message boards, food diary, calorie calculators. Unhelpful: bullies on the message board, too many erroneous and incomplete user-entered foods in the database, not enough guidance for new users
  • Environmental chemist (maybe retired) ;)
  • In a calorie deficit, we are prone to losing muscle mass, so I prefer to stack the cards in my favor and eat more protein than the minimum RDA. Try to get some with every meal and snack, so you don't have to compensate so much later in the day. I even sneak some into my coffee by adding some collagen and a spoonful of…
  • You need to do a LOT of stretching of your calves and achilles every day. Every morning, before you get up, flex your foot up and at the same time press your fingers into the plantar fascia. You can feel it as a tight tendon running through the center of your arch. Massage it, press on it, and try to loosen it. Do this as…
  • I try to prioritize protein in each of my meals. If I am not having something protein-heavy, I'll make up for it with protein powder -- in my cereal, in a smoothie, etc. I've recently started sneaking some into my coffee by adding collagen to it (6 g protein) and a spoonful of protein powder (another 7 grams). It all adds…
  • Started a Strong Curves program this week and finished my second workout today! *so swole* ;P
  • I agree with others here that it's got to be something other than genetic predisposition. Eating is highly social in humans and food culture varies tremendously, even within relatively small regions (e.g., neighborhoods). We decide what we put into our mouths. Children learn habits from their parents, including food…
  • I followed the calorie guideline given to me by MFP (I did tweak the macros a bit) and lost the expected amount of weight per week. You need to be honest and meticulous with tracking food, but it can be done. Get as much exercise as you can (walking is great). It's all about those calories.
  • Similar situation to @spring913 , we were invited to dinner with some friends last weekend. Gave myself a little extra time before leaving to try a few things on... CLOTHING CRISIS! Nothing fit. Everything seemed like a tent. I actually wanted to wear something more form-fitting instead of hiding in a boxy top. I have had…
  • I said several times that I take no sides here. I was trying to respond to several people reacting to my one comment where I disagreed with the word, "nope." And it degraded into nitpicks with little regard to my intention. I will leave you all now because my miracle fat loss vinegar, garlic, kombucha detox cleanse is…
  • If we deliberately alter what we ingest, there are measurable changes in microbe population. It is thought that there are die-offs or blooms of the microbes that specialize in whatever food has been omitted or introduced with that food alteration. One theory is that microbes may send electro- and/or chemical reward signals…
  • I am not offended but I don't appreciate the sarcasm which seemingly put a lid on the issue and did not address complexities. My comment was in response to "nope". The "nope" paper's authors' opinion was that it is "premature" to accept sugar addiction and make policy decisions based on that theory with lack of enough…
  • The importance of a healthy gut biome is nothing new, and though research into the area of its influence on behavior is relatively recent, there is no reason to discount it by calling out "woo." Sarcastic comments are not helpful and are demeaning. Addiction is not that simple. Again, open minded, civil discussion about…
  • I wouldn't exactly call that a smack-down "nope" but a call for more discussion on the nature of the various pathways of addiction, both behavioral and neurochemical, both of which need more research. Not to mention the influence our gut biome has on our eating decisions.
  • Maybe I should give them another chance. I will look at the options available at H Mart (Asian market) this time instead of the teeny selection in my regular grocery store. We are overdue for a hot pot /shabu shabu nite.
  • Did we even need to see the 2nd carton?
  • If something in my head or my stomach is screaming for sweets (and I am trying to avoid eating them), I can often shut it up by drinking herbal tea. Not sure why, but it helps. If I am strong enough to say NO for just a few days, the cravings diminish.
