I became lactose intolerant in my early 30’s then it went away for a couple of years and came back, now it seems like it’s here to stay. I never did drink a lot of milk but I cannot go without my beloved cheese and ice cream :p I’m extremely sensitive to it, any dairy can be painful even cheeses and yogurt, I’ve heard some…

My why... I had tried many times to lose weight for vanity reasons but always failed. Then I began having health problems directly caused by my obesity. I was really really close to being officially prediabetic, type 2 diabetes runs rampant in my family. My liver was starting to fail due to the beginnings of NAFLD, the…

Here’s some of my favorite teas (notice there’s no green tea!) I drink them all plain with no sweetener or milk. There’s the staple Lipton black tea and I love any brand of Earl Grey and English Breakfast. The Raspberry Zinger tea is sooooo fruity and refreshing! Celestial Seasonings brand has many great teas but the…

Having had the beginnings of NAFLD was what really scared me straight and gave me that last push I needed to lose weight. My pain was located in the upper right quadrant sometimes just above the edge of my ribcage and sometimes just below the ribcage, more towards the front of my body than the side. It was a sudden sharp…

No one except that person really knows all the trials and tribulations that they had to go through to achieve their goals, let alone to maintain them. If they are bettering themselves and their health then I find that inspiring and more power to them! And as far as seeing others do things I will never be able to do?…

Been in a relationship for 10+ years. We met when I was slightly overweight and sedentary. After my thyroid gave out my weight ballooned quickly to the point I was obese and it took me a couple of years to get my act together enough to lose the excess weight. I lost 43 lbs over 10 months and now exercise regularly, I’ve…

I had a similar situation back when I was obese. I was suffering from liver pains that progressively got worse and my ALT and AST levels were in the 50’s. I never got any scans but I did have full liver panel labs. My doctor wanted me to exercise and eat better then retest in a few months. I did and after 5 months my…

The fact that you stated protein rich foods also trigger reflux for you makes me think this could possibly be an enzyme deficiency issue. Maybe your stomach is not producing enough of the enzymes necessary to digest protein and it makes you feel ill, very much in the same way lactose rich foods make people lacking lactose…

This was my thought exactly. I have reactive hypoglycemia and this sounds like all the same symptoms. But OP you said your doctor did a glucose test already so I’m not sure what else it could be.

44, sometimes a bit lower. I usually set off heart rate monitors and have to tell the medical staff that I feel fine, I’m a runner.

Pasta and cheese will usually be very calorie heavy! :( I usually reserve pasta for days when I go for a long run to balance it out. It took me awhile to learn about calories when I started losing weight but now I can guesstimate pretty closely and this knowledge has helped me maintain my goal weight for 6+ years without…

If I only had 100 calories for a snack I’d probably go for baby carrots or a whole cucumber with salt or any kind of fruit/berries or a few slices of deli turkey perhaps. To me 100 calories is not a lot for a snack so I’d probably go for a walk later and earn a few more calories to make it at least 300 (or more) :)

I weighed in weekly because I found the daily fluctuations maddening. Also, I skipped the weigh-in the week before my period due to extra pounds of retained water that would be gone the next week anyway.

Remember you are allowed to have rest days! You don’t have to (nor should you) exercise vigorously every single day. I agree with the majority of the thread responses that say exercise actually helps relieve stress, not cause it. Maybe sit down and try to pinpoint what aspects of working out stress you out and try…

I take an extra walk here and there in the next few days to offset the excess calories and simply move on from it. You can factor your calories as a weekly average also and eat less some days and more other days as long as you reach your weekly goal.

Hi! I’m a total introvert and suffer from extreme social anxiety, although over the years I have developed strategies to help manage it (the SA manifests more in person than online, I’m better at communicating through writing) and it’s taken me years to realize that although I have SA I’m not actually shy which is the…

I understand about the hypothyroidism, my weight ballooned very quickly when my thyroid gave out in my 30’s. If I don’t watch myself I can easily gain weight again even though it’s controlled with medication, and sometimes I feel like I have to work twice as hard for half the results as people with normal thyroid function.…

I have very similar stats to yours! I’ll be 46 years old in a few months, I’m 5’11” and began at 209 lbs. I reached my goal weight of 167 lbs and have maintained it for 6+ years. If I could do it you certainly can too! Request sent and everyone else feel free to add me if you like :)

I’ve been running for 6+ years and have had only a handful of times I can say I truly experienced a runners high. I have found no way to replicate the high on demand, I guess the planets need to be aligned just right or something ;) But the common theme for each time was that I had been running at a steady fast pace for at…

I used to be a receptionist and when I was obese I’d get asked by the public nearly every single day “When are you due?” or “How old is your baby?” when my only child was 18 YEARS old! I have since lost and kept off the weight but I later found this pic online and wish I had it back then so I could say to them “Thank you…

Posture can make a world of difference. I will never have a flat tummy (which I’m fine with) if I stand slumped with my hips tilted forwards I will look preggo, if I stand with good posture it gives the “illusion” of a flatter tummy and is a TON less noticeable. Have you been checked for fibroids? Many women around our age…

Not hiking but biking... I was biking on a paved trail with my bf on an unfamiliar trail and he had stopped for some reason and I went on ahead. The pavement was not very well maintained and had lots of huge cracks in it. My front tire got caught in a parallel crack just the right size to trap my tire and I was going at a…

When I was new to hiking a few years ago I once foolishly went for a hike in 104 degree weather on a trail with absolutely no shade anywhere along the route. I had plenty of water but suffered from heat exhaustion and a lack of electrolytes from drinking too much water. It happened so fast too! My bf and I started having…

Trying to keep our regular weekly date night alive :#

I’m 5’11” and have maintained my goal weight of 167 lbs for 6+ years. To me this is my ideal weight due to the fact that I feel fantastic and energetic, feel like I can wear whatever outfits I want confidently and the obesity related health problems have all subsided at this weight. Back when I weighed my highest at 209…

The heat affects my running a lot! It bogs me down and zaps my energy. Sometimes I cannot finish my run and end up doing the walk of shame for the second half of my route :# and I am sure to load up on water and electrolytes but if it’s in the high 90’s or more I still have trouble sometimes, I simply overheat. Needless to…

I’d not worry too much about a one-time splurge meal and just figure 1,000-1,200 calories for a really filling restaurant meal, enjoy the heck out of it and maybe go for a walk afterwards to help offset some of the excess calories, but that’s just me :)

It’s probably water weight, you did not gain 5lbs of fat overnight. Don’t let it derail you, weigh only once a week for sanity reasons. When I was losing weight I had to skip weighing myself the week before my period due to many pounds of water retention which would eventually go away the next week. It was annoying having…

Can I just reiterate how important posture is? I had terrible posture as a teen and most of my adult life due to a number of factors, Shoulders always hunched over and pelvis tilted forwards, making my tummy bulge out more than necessary. 6+ years ago when I started exercising regularly for the first time in my sedentary…

I’ll allow 3 lbs without panicking but when I get up to 5 lbs I know I have to go back to logging my food and upping my activity. I got up to 6 lbs over my maintenance weight during the lockdown (4 from last year and 2 during quarantine) so I dusted off the old food scale and started doing more walking in addition to my…
