  • I really think it all comes down to genetics because that determines how dense your breast tissue is, which determines how much they fluctuate with weight gain/loss. When I get my yearly mammogram I’m always told I have very dense breast tissue. Mine haven’t budged an inch since I was 15 and have remained just as…
  • Congrats! Amazing progress! :)
  • Nice! I run better when it’s cooler and I actually prefer it... today it’s gonna be 80 degrees! Unseasonably warm! B)
  • Fun 3 mile night run! Super sweaty tho... it’s still way too warm for January!
  • Sounds like a really fun challenge! Beautiful pics! Happy hiking :)
  • In the 7+ years and thousands of miles of running barefoot you’d think I’d have racked up a bunch of injuries but I just simply haven’t. I attribute this to being very conscious about foot placement and good form. I scan the ground 6-10 feet ahead of me and plan where I will step next. With correct form my feet actually…
  • It’s been unseasonably warm in the Bay Area, on yesterday’s run I just about overheated so today I wore shorts and a tank top and faired much better on my 6 miler!
  • I actually still use the old apple wired earbuds for the same reason. They fit and stay in my ears while I’m running but still allow just enough ambient noise for me to hear my surroundings for safety. I like the old-school version that have a wider earbud that kinda sits on the edge of the ear canal not the more cone…
  • I am also a 5’11” female and my goal weight is 12 stone (which I reached over 7 years ago and am currently maintaining) when I began my weight loss I was 38 years old and I started at 15 stone. I set a goal for myself to lose the weight before my next birthday which was 10 months away. I ate all kinds of foods but counted…
  • It was a surprising 62 degrees on my midday 10K run today! It's usually much colder at this point in the season but today is feeling quite warm B)
  • Never!!! I eat whatever I want. But this one time my credit card company made me feel very very guilty... I had helped a friend move, so spent all day lifting/loading furniture and packing/unpacking boxes, etc. At the end of the day I was soooo hungry and just felt like buying a ton of Jack in the Box food >:) I had…
  • My run today was 6 miles in a dense fog that rolled in this morning and still hasn’t burned off yet!
  • Just finished a super fun 10K :) It rained a bit last night so there were plenty of puddles on the trail to splash through! :D
  • Ummm... really wish I could recommend some but you just happened to pick the one wrong runner to ask... let’s just say I’m an “unconventional” runner :D :D :D I don’t wear shoes :# I never set out to be a barefoot runner, it just happened this way but it’s so fun I’ve been at it for 7 years and it works for me. I’m sure…
  • I started running for the first time in my life at age 39 and have loved it ever since! My true passion is trail running (but I also run pavement) My favorite thing to do is run downhill... it feels like flying! Feel free to add me and happy running to all! :)
  • As mentioned above it depends on what the composition of the stone was. I had a stone a few years ago and you are correct about it being extremely painful! Unfortunately I passed my stone and they didn’t catch it so I never knew what mine was made up of. My doctor told me to stay hydrated and avoid foods with the highest…
  • Previously lived a 100% sedentary lifestyle. Started eating less (and better) and exercising regularly for the first time ever 7 years and 10 months ago. I have a new lifestyle now, one where I can fly! (well, sorta ;) ) Having so much fun and definitely loving the process because of the results!
  • Thanks! The journey has been worth it every step of the way! :)
  • Thanks! :) I don’t have a before pic because I used to hate getting my pic taken but this photo shows what my posture used to look like, I wish it was an exaggeration but it’s actually pretty accurate... And this is my posture now... I believe my improved posture is the result of the combination of becoming a runner, going…
  • Thanks! Sorry about the knees, I know a lot of people that have had them replaced. I used to have a bum knee that ached for 19 years, but guess I managed to lose my weight in time to improve it and it doesn’t give me grief anymore. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d ever identify myself as a runner but “never say…
  • Here’s what I’m doing personally: I get an annual checkup with my doctor and get a comprehensive blood test. When I was obese and sedentary I had terrible bloodwork numbers and felt awful, tired all the time, no energy, aches and pains everywhere just generally feeling crummy and destined to suffer from the metabolic…
  • Not sure if it’s unique to where I live but when the long awaited rainy season finally begins it’s time for the newts to go find their mates and we get these signs in our regional parks: These are the newts:
  • I regularly encounter huge pine cones out on the trails, some even larger than this. They are from the Coulter pine which produces the heaviest cone of any pine tree and is only native to the Ca coast. The cones are also called “widowmakers” :o
  • Thanks! Improved posture took longer to achieve than the weight loss but it was worth it! :)
  • Thanks! Body by trail running B)
  • For reference here’s a before and after, notice the back-fat in the before pic. A combination of losing the excess weight and improving my posture has made all the difference!
  • Because I want to be the best version of myself that I can be: happy, healthy and a positive role model for my only child.
  • Don’t know if it’ll help you but what works for me is foam rolling. I absolutely hate foam rolling but it’s the only thing that ever really helps when I feel the Achilles acting up. It helps my Achilles heal in days instead of weeks/months trying other things and I’ve tried it all. Foam rolling when done correctly is not…
  • I get Achilles issues once every few years because I’m a runner who loves hills and can easily overdo it sometimes. I’ve tried a lot of remedies but the one thing that I’ve found always helps my Achilles’ tendons heal up unbelievably fast is something I absolutely hate... foam rolling! I loathe foam rolling but when done…
  • Sounds like you want to begin in a more structured/planned manner and want concrete studies on the subject. I might not be much help because I didn’t do this, I just sort of started barefoot, I didn’t do much research. After never having exercised regularly at all, I began running in traditional shoes but they caused me…
