Hello again everyone. I'm doing better. I had to get off the internet for a while and go into emergency self-care mode, but by Friday things were a bit more chipper and I spent this weekend throwing myself into a project. I've got lots of conversations with doctors coming up, so hopefully this won't happen again. I was…

Checking in. I'm not in a good place mentally, and posting about how much I've been drinking is going to feel a lot more like kicking myself when I'm down than motivation to do better. I've been using birth control as an antidepressant since I was 16. Classic anti-depressants weren't great. Went on BC for acne and suddenly…

Looking at your diary you've only been tracking for nine days. If that's the amount of time you've been trying to hit this particular calorie number, you might just have to tough out the hunger for another week or two and let your body adjust. I'm usually pretty uncomfortable the first two weeks of a calorie cut, and then…

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. I had three days in a row of lovely dinners and celebrations. Kinda blew out my weekly drink limit, but hey, birthday weekend and seeing people for the first time in forever. Waffling about drinks tonight because I'm tired and in a mood, but Wed-Sat are AF for sure. Getting my…

So.... Any chance I can hope that since you posted this yesterday, it was an April Fool's joke? At your CURRENT weight and height, you're already significantly underweight. At your goal weight and height, you'd have a BMI of 16.6, which can land you in the hospital. You risk issues like losing your period, having your hair…

Is your calorie limit 1200 calories? Unless you're very short, old, sedentary, or some combination of those three, you probably can have a higher calorie limit still lose weight at a decent rate. If you're so hungry that you're having trouble sticking to your planned meals, you need to take a look at 1) if you're eating an…

Thanks @MissMay for getting us started! Hope you have more free time to hang around this month :) Congratulations @globalhiker on day 60 AF! @Lilylady3k April will definitely be a better month. I really like the idea of 100 miles! I might steal that, it gives me something bigger to aim for. This is going to be quite a…

3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8-3/14: 4 AF days, 8 drinks 3/15-3/21: 5 AF days, 5 drinks 3/22-3/28: 4 AF days, 7 drinks 3/29: AF 3/30: AF Despite the bumpy start to the month, I got my 15th AF day in last night, and I plan to be AF tonight because Thurs - Sat are probably going to be a little wild. I've had the…

Pain, which prevented consistency. Now that I've had surgery, am doing PT twice a week, and have the pain under control, I'm able to be a lot more consistent about getting up and moving, and I'm not turning to food and drink for comfort/pleasure or out of boredom.

@globalhiker Congratulations on conquering your cravings! You’ve gotten to a really good place. I will say IMO the wine devil is taking a nap, and drinking will probably wake it up, but you’re also equipped with all the tools to put it back to sleep. About my job: it’s dysfunctional for sure, but the only reason I can…

Posted here, then went to PT where I started to feel a lot better, then the staff started joking about happy hour starting early during…

Assuming 2300 is really your maintenance. How did you arrive at that number?

What's your activity level outside of your 40 minutes of purposeful exercise? If you sit on your butt the rest of the day, your TDEE is probably only 1750 calories. So if you're eating 1600 calories plus your exercise calories, you might only be netting a 150 calorie deficit. It would take you over 3 weeks to lose a pound…

I don't have the wise words of the others here, but I have thoughts about starting out. First off, set your expectations appropriately! Comparison is the thief of happiness, especially if you're comparing apples to oranges. You're not living The Biggest Loser. You're not going to lose 15 lbs the first week because you're…

3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8-3/14: 4 AF days, 8 drinks 3/15-3/21: 5 AF days, 5 drinks 3/22: AF 3/23: AF 3/24: AF 3/25: AF Warning: rant/whine ahead. Well, my memory of my hangover has clearly faded since last night I was white-knuckling it through not drinking. So my place of work is super dysfunctional. We're a…

If you're down to the last 30-40 lbs and you've been at this a while, you're in the zone where you have a lot less room for error in your logging. Definitely step it up in that area until you see the scale trending in the right direction. Accurate logging of your intake is always troubleshooting step #1. Make sure you're…

My mom's menopause go-to was lightly salted nuts. You do need to weigh them out, but if you're craving salt + fat it's a snack that should knock that right out. Or top your salads with them, top your sauteed green beans with them, or make a rich and flavorful dish like lamb tagine where they're a garnish? You could also do…

@Womona Congratulations on reaching goal weight!! @globalhiker Did the podiatrist say what's causing your pain?? Throwing out everything and starting over seems extreme, but I get it if it's necessary. Start with the items that should be big-ticket anyway, like your main pair of walking shoes. And a second opinion never…

@dawnbgethealthy @Lilylady3k Oooooh we're talking about margaritas!!! Husband and I got hooked on the Jose Cuervo zero calorie margarita mix a long time ago. This is definitely not for everyone because it's not very sweet. It uses sucralose as a sweetener (not everyone's favorite artificial sweetener), but there must not…

I wrote up a thing and lost it :s Survived my hangover (I'm sure the the hugs from you guys helped). AF Monday and Tuesday. Another one of us here with sleep issues, had problems since I was a preteen. I either can't fall asleep, can't stay asleep, or get a great night of sleep interrupted at 5am by my cat. No wonder we…

Addiction and compulsive disorders have somewhat different underlying motives. Addiction is driven by a need to derive pleasure or relieve pain or discomfort. Gambling better fits the addiction model than the compulsion model because the gambler is seeking out the pleasure/thrill of winning. Compulsive behavior is an…

@Womona Congrats on being so close to goal weight!! Lots of extra motivation to stay focused :) @globalhiker Right, we have no state taxes on those things. We have high property taxes to make up for it, and housing costs are going up just as much here as they are in AZ. The conservative Californians have been moving here,…

3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8-3/14: 4 AF days, 8 drinks 3/15: AF 3/16: AF 3/17: 1 drink For the most part, I had a lovely day yesterday. We had fun music playing, I cooked a not-Irish-at-all steak with ginger miso sauce, and I ended up busting out my socks because why not? But the whole night it felt like I had my…

Texas is huge! You've got a coast, forests, grasslands, hills, mountains... Houston (and the coast) are humid, but the rest of the state has moderate to low humidity, especially in west Texas where you get into the mountains. Hot... well, June, July, and August get hot everywhere. The average along the coast is low 90s,…

@lmlmrn Nah I'm down in Texas. I road-tripped around Oregon with a friend a few years back, and did another trip to Seattle/Chelan in Washington after that, so I've spent a lot of time reading travel guides :D @globalhiker Oh, the Frustrated Husband trigger. One of the tough things about WFH is not having the car ride home…

I live in the neighborhood that throws the St. Patty's Day party in normal times. It starts off with a 5K (I'm wearing one of my 5K shirts today!), then a parade with tacky, adorable…

@globalhiker One of the first places that came to mind is Columbia River Gorge. There’s several areas you could go to in Washington or Oregon. “Columbia River Gorge” and “Hood River” searches on VRBO show some places in your price range that meet your checklist.
