I have an apple between 10:30-11:00, about an hour before I go to the gym. I'll have a yogurt around 2:30 and cereal or a shake before bed. I plan these out though, so I'm not really hurting from it.

I like the MP Assault when I'm taking it. It's a good taste, strong enough to feel it and I don't have any stomach problems with it. I've tried NoXplode a few times and it seems like false advertising, as I always explode... Edit: You asked "why"
