Twenty+ years ago, my Dad and I picked some random Sunday NFL game and bet $1.00 on it. A few weeks later, a couple of other siblings wanted in on the fun - and we expanded it to picking the winners of all 16 games with a $2.00 bet. Flash forward to 2019. Now we have 26 family members in the "Football Pool", including the…

What do I put in my coffee?? All my hopes and dreams that every morning the first sip will be bliss, it will be perfectly hot and comforting, I will feel the sleepy haze slowly falling from my brain, and by the second cup I will be sufficiently motivated, satisfied and zippy to go down to the basement and get on the…

^^^ I love this!!!!

Yup. Not so much beers per se, but a gin and tonic or two or a couple of martinis or some wine. So I do. The way I look at it - it's better than gobbling down a bag of chips or a box of cookies or whatever. At least I hope it is - LOL....

That's a difficult question for me to answer. I have been working out in the early AMs all of my life. I love it. But I am, and have always been, a morning person. I am all wide-eyed and energetic when I get up in the morning and working out then seems natural to me. I have tried at times to take evening workout classes…

Good reminder for me. I have a strong tendency to be judgy....

In college 40+ years ago. I need to exercise. It keeps me sane, gives me an outlet when I'm stressed, keeps me in a positive frame of mind, keeps me strong, toned and motivated. I've tried a lot of things throughout my life - cycling, running, yoga, boxing, aerobics (remember aerobics??? LOL), weight lifting, tap dancing…

I think sometimes in this uber-PC world, many people are wary about making comments about others' physical appearance. Is it sexual harassment? Some version of fat-shaming? And who knows what else? Keep plugging away and soldier on. In the end, it's just you and your body anyway....

My "why" was sorta petty. At first, I just really wanted to look better. Now I am 64 years old. My 94 year old Dad was just hospitalized and I went to physical therapy with him to learn how to care for him as he healed. Physical therapy was FILLED with elderly, overweight people who could not MOVE. Some were only my age!!…

VACATION!!! My favorite word :) 1. Try new foods! 2. Eat sensibly. You've been doing that for 5 months. You know the drill. 3. Ratchet up the activity level. I don't mean find a treadmill in the hotel. I mean - play "keep-away" in the pool, rent bicycles, explore the city on foot, go horseback riding on the beach, hike up…

I had to chuckle when I saw this post!! My siblings and I take turns mowing the lawn at my (elderly) parents' home. The mower died a couple of weeks ago. You would've thought we were debating the most polarizing topic in the world when discussing what type of new mower to purchase. EVERYONE had a differing opinion. I…

Staring out of an airplane window. I always get the window seat. Spend the entire flight just looking at the clouds. Or the watching the setting sun from above the clouds. Or the sun rising on small lakes which look like little pieces of gold in the in the distance. The lights down below at night. Following the moon as it…

For some reason I have yet to fathom, I coasted through menopause. One day I had my period, then: DONE!!! For good. No fuss, no muss. That was about 14 years ago. I still have the last half-gone package of "panti-liners" in the top drawer of my dresser. Once in a while I look at them and just grin smugly. I'm sure there is…

I was married for the first time right after my 60th birthday. Don't ask me why. I'm still contemplating that one. Anyway: Dress $99.00. (which my Dad and Mom paid for by the way - so cute!!) Catered picnic and open bar for 20 people: I think about $2,000???? (we drank A LOT - LOL) Minister: $60.00 Poolside venue: 0…

I have been a fast eater all of my life. I think it stems from when I was a kid - and I just wanted to wolf down my meals so I could go back outside and play. I know it's not the best habit, but I have come to the point in my life where I have to pick my battles, and this just isn't one of them....

So I'm thinking this: my Dad and Mom were married on Aug. 28, 1954. I was born exactly nine months and 4 days later. After the wedding, they took off on their honeymoon in, if I remember correctly, my Dad's Packard. They became waylaid on the road at some point as they ran into the remnants of some hurricane and had to…

I have always hated the elliptical. Thought there was something wrong with me!!! I was happy to see these other posts - know now I am not alone :)

Crap. I just ran upstairs to the bedroom to sniff my workout clothes. Just in case..smelled fine. :/

Ahh-hh. Potatoes. Love every part of them - even (and mostly) the skins!!! When I get asked about foods in that "what if you were stuck on a desert island" question - I don't miss a beat. Don't bat an eye. Don't even mull it over. My two foods: coffee and potatoes. I'd die a happy person on that desert island...

I agree with many of the above posters. Unless it is a VERY hilly and/or a ride with a massive headwind, you really don't need to do much prep. I would bring lots of water, a banana and have my "normal" meals before and after. I haven't ridden in many years, ( I miss it sometimes) but when I did - I was obsessed. Did 40…

Exactly this ^^^^ Which is why I pretty much run loops close to the house in the mornings. It's inevitable :/

About 5 years ago - I got hit suddenly with a painful and debilitating case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I tried everything to alleviate it and finally broke down and went to my doctor. He sent me to some specialist who ran a series of tests, and those tests came back "inconclusive." My doctor kind of shrugged, mentioned…

I have this magnet on my fridge: "I wish I was as thin as I was when I thought I was fat". LOL. So yes montyeva1114, I understand your comment #1.

Rather than lowering your calories to compensate for your sedentary lifestyle - maybe move more?? I'm short too (5'4") - and although I realize it is not necessary to exercise to lose weight - I found that it really helped me. Once I got moving - I wanted to move more and more. Working out helped to keep me focused, kept…

Everybody always wants to do stuff with me. Work out. Travel. Have lunch. Go for coffee. Take an early morning walk. I am a certified loner. I just tell people I prefer to do **"whatever"** alone. I think the word is out now....

What was most important to me when I purchased my treadmill was how it "felt". I spent about two hours in the store trying out different models - not looking at the prices. I wanted something sturdy, solid, not too "cushiony", not a loud motor, and smooth transitions between inclines and speeds, among other things. There…

Even though I am now retired, I still get up early in the morning and put in a 65-75 minute workout. It gets my day off to a roaring start and I feel energized throughout the day. I've never been able to "sleep in" - so I guess I just use that time to my advantage....
