I've changed my mind....
1. Never used to like gardenia in perfumes. Now I love it... 2. If a bug of any type got in the house, I would kill it. Now I carefully catch it and put it outside. 3. Colored my hair every 6 weeks for years. Got tired of it and stopped. I am kind of embracing the funkiness of the grays mixed with the fading fake colors…

Augtober??
Not a fitness comment here. But I always feel a bit like I'm in limbo in September. Not really summer, not yet fall. At least where I live... There's football on TV. I feel obligated to make chili. But I really just want an umbrella drink out on the deck. I can still run around in flip-flops. But now sometimes I have to…

Here's to Dad & Mom!! :)
So this month my Dad and Mom will be celebrating their 65th (!!!!!) wedding anniversary. Dad is 94 years old, a WWII Navy vet, and Mom is 84 years old and was a stay-at-home Mom who raised 7 kids. I know this post has nothing to do with diet/fitness. Or maybe it does - I got my extra large ribcage and love of sports from…

My new philosophy...
So now that it's summer, my husband got his 92 Camaro out of storage and we took a ride along the lake the other day. We stopped for lunch at a 1950s-type burger joint that bragged it had the "World's Best Cheeseburger". They were not lying. Huge slab of ground steak on a beautiful soft roll with hot sauce, onions, relish,…

My Home Gym Has Eliminated All Excuses
Last fall, I bit the bullet and set up a home gym in my basement. I had recently moved, and did not like the new gym nearby - and just as I thought - I therefore, never went. So I purchased a treadmill, bag for boxing, weights and a floor mat. So now I can no longer use any of the excuses that used to play in my head when…

Finding the Sweet Spot
I am not a young person. But I am not so old as to have stopped learning lessons and re-evaluating the ways I approach life. With respect to dieting and fitness, I typically had problems when I would get derailed because of unexpected blips and usual life stresses. It is relatively "easy" to stick to a program of exercise…

Just venting about my new gym...
Up until recently I lived in a rental community with a clubhouse with a small gym. I used to walk over to the clubhouse and use the gym at 4:00 every morning. It was wonderful. No one else was there at that hour, I kept the lights low, blasted my music as loudly as I wanted and I loved that time to myself each morning. I…

Root Canal. :(
So I had a toothache. Went to the dentist. They had to do a root canal. Now the tooth hurts more than it did in the first place!!! But the good news is: I've had to live on soup, smoothies, diet ginger ale and coffee all week and lost 2.5 lbs!!!! YAY!! I think tonight though, I may add in a martini or two. No olives. Ow...

Can one really lose weight without exercise???
I don't believe it is possible for ME, at least, to lose weight without exercise. I am a 5'4" 62 y/o female who started MFP at 182 lbs and is now down to 142 lbs. I have about 10 lbs to go. I have a Fitbit Charge 2. On the days I do not exercise, but take a "rest day" i.e. just go to work or do errands - I only burn…

Is the Universe trying to tell me I have too many clothes???
Why when I was heavy could I never find clothes in sizes L and XL?? They were always gone. Now that I am slimmer, I can't find stuff in sizes Small or Medium!!!!!

Any boxers out there? I need some advice please....
Let me start by saying I am a 62 y/o female, which may or may not have something to do with my problem. I have been taking boxing lessons for one hour/wk for about four months now. I have a teacher I really like - he's knowledgable, experienced, and very patient with me. He says I am "overthinking" and therefore lacking…

Question about sudden weight gain.
Very briefly: I am a 5'4" 62 year old female. I have been on MFP for 13 months and have lost 40lbs. The weight has come off fairly slowly, but consistently. My exercise has consisted of 75 hard minutes on the treadmill 4-5 times/week, along with some yoga, and brisk outdoor walking. Since I have seemed to have stalled at…

No spring in my step - literally!!! Any tips???
I am a 62 year-old 5'4" female currently at 143lbs. (Have about 10 more lbs to go.) I have practiced yoga for many years, and I run between 20-25 miles/wk on the treadmill. I have just taken up boxing. Part of the training is jumping rope. And there's the rub. I don't know if I have a low center of gravity or what (am very…

It Came To Me In A Dream...
I would like to be a well-rounded healthy person. Make that WELL but not ROUNDED - LOL. Anyway I have been looking for something to complement what I already do for physical activity. The treadmill/running is great physically, and yoga is great spiritually. I wanted something that would sharpen my reflexes AND my mind.…

Am I missing the obvious?
I have been working out on a treadmill for many months now. A 70-minute workout burns about 450 calories, according to the machine's readout. Yesterday, I purchased a Fitbit. According to the Fitbit - I logged 10,288 steps so far today - of which 8,000+ were done on the treadmill. The Fitbit is also telling me that I have…

Nine lbs to go - any advice for me MFPers?
I have just under 10 lbs to go. I have read many, many posts these last few months about how difficult and discouraging it can be to lose those last ten. I don't want to get derailed now. Can anyone give me some guidance on what they experienced and how they managed to get through this phase? Much appreciated....

It's "LOSE" weight - not "LOOSE" weight....
Just had to get that off my chest...

I think the weight gods are screwing with my head...
Went on vacation for a week. Did not weigh or measure foods, but ate mindfully. Did not do any "formal" workouts, but was active. Drank a lot of water, but a lot of mojitos too :) Came home, had lost one pound. Been back for a month. Went right back on plan: weighing, measuring, under my daily calorie goal, back to daily…

What's up with my boobs?
Began on April 1st. Have lost 19 of the 32 lbs I wish to lose. 3" off my waist, 2" off my hips, thighs look great (never measured them to begin with) - down a dress size. Not ONE INCH off the boobs - even though bras are fitting much better, as are my tops. What's up with that??? Is it my age - 61?? Husband is ecstatic -…

Thank you MFPers
A while back I posted a request for tips for staying on track while on vacation. I received many useful ones - and I took bits and pieces from everyone's suggestions. I drank two glasses of water between each mojito (LOL), I played IN the pool instead of sitting AROUND the pool, I ordered fish (abundant on Florida's Gulf…

Vacation Tips Requested
I have been on MFP since 4/1/16 and am down 14 lbs. Going on vacation in two weeks to visit sister in Florida. These vacations have historically included: 1. Mostly SITTING around the pool gabbing and laughing. 2. Lots of calorie-laden umbrella COCKTAILS 3. Erratic meals/ restaurant meals/ bar-b-ques. I don't want to come…

Is this normal?
I am a 60 year old female with 30 lbs to lose. I began my plan on 4/1/16. I am on 1200 calories per day ( which I have adhered to) monitoring sugars, fat, carbs, protein. I do one hour on the treadmill 4-5 days per week burning about 400 calories per workout. Also do upper body strength workouts with free weights. I lost…
