Finding the Sweet Spot

I am not a young person. But I am not so old as to have stopped learning lessons and re-evaluating the ways I approach life.
With respect to dieting and fitness, I typically had problems when I would get derailed because of unexpected blips and usual life stresses. It is relatively "easy" to stick to a program of exercise and healthy eating when life is just buzzing along. But when bumps came up and my routines went awry - that was my challenge.
I might not be able to make it to the gym for a week or two - or my meal plans would get thrown out the window, and I would feel so guilty and stressed about that - ON TOP OF THE EXTRA STRESS that was in my life at the moment - it became overwhelming.
It dawned on me that a week or two break from my routine isn't the end of the world. Sure - I might feel a little creaky when I get back on the treadmill or my jeans may feel a bit snug for a bit. But who the heck cares??? I deal with the issue in my life at the moment - whatever that may be- and when things settle down - I just go back to my routine. BOOM - problem solved...
Just had to put this down "on paper" so it sinks in....
