My Home Gym Has Eliminated All Excuses

Last fall, I bit the bullet and set up a home gym in my basement. I had recently moved, and did not like the new gym nearby - and just as I thought - I therefore, never went.

So I purchased a treadmill, bag for boxing, weights and a floor mat. So now I can no longer use any of the excuses that used to play in my head when I was rationalizing skipping my workout.

1. The weather is crappy. Doesn't matter....don't even have to go outside!!
2. The gym isn't open yet. Mine is open 24/7!!
3. All my gym clothes are in the laundry. Who cares?? I can workout in my underwear if I choose.
4. I have really bad gas. Nope!! Can fart all I want now!!
5. The machines are all yucky and sweaty. So what?? Just my own yuck and sweat...
6. I don't like to wear ear buds. Don't need them now - crank my music as loud as I want!!!
7. The old guy who drops candy in my gym bag creeps me out. So long buddy!!
8. Get weird looks 'cause I talk to myself on the treadmill. Now I can even sing out loud if I want!

Needless to say - I am having a ball and now look forward to my daily workout. Best investment I ever made. Just sayin'...

I never thought I would stick with it working out at home but since last year I, too, got a treadmill and set up my home gym. I freakin love it. I don’t miss anything about going to the gym. I get to watch anything I want while on the treadmill, utilize fitness videos so I don’t really have to pre-plan work outs, and don’t feel weird and self-conscious taking as much time stretching and I like (not to mention having the space for it without being in peoples way). I can also easily work out on the weekends without having to get myself and my kid ready and take him to the gym daycare that he hates. Congrats on finding something that is working for you!!

i tried it. it didnt work for (me). though i might not like heading to the gym in the cold or rain or (whatever).... i found getting dressed and GOING there to be far more motivation than working out at home where i had constant distractions (kids, dogs, tv, chores, whatever).

the IDEA of working out at home appealed to me, but in practice, it didnt work for me :(

Callsitlikeiseeit: I can understand the distractions. I don't have kids or pets - so that helps a bit ;). But I DO work from home - and am constantly distracted by chores and other stuff. So I get it. I never minded going to the gym, but when I relocated and just didn't like the one I was going to, I needed to find another avenue. Going to the gym sounds as if it might be a "break" for you :)

This for me too... I'm a SAHM and I need out the house for sanity. Plus I like the eye candy at the gym. 🤷🏼‍♀️
