  • Good advice! The afternoon tea caterers said they would leave the butter off my sandwiches and replace some of the cakes with fruit, so that was lovely of them (and they'll have a milk alternative for me, too, but that's unrelated to calories). Hopefully between that, dark chocolate, and a healthy dose of self-restraint...…
  • Oh, I know. I was more wondering what tips and tricks people had for resisting temptation, or if people who've been to such things in the past (I haven't, but I know people like @louisepaul16 have) could suggest a) lower-calorie options that might be available or b) ways of avoiding doing too much sampling without seeming…
  • Hurrah for wagon-hopping! I'm committed as well, and for the past few days I've done a good job of sticking to my mini-goals (over 500 calories of deficit each day; in deficit Saturday despite lunch out). BUT. My company are doing a surprise outing tomorrow, and I've just found out that it's to a chocolate factory,…
  • Thank you! I've heard Pokemon Go is great for getting people up and moving. I hope it helps! Well done on all the losses! And it's great that you've caught yourself early... you'll lose those nine pounds in no time!
  • Well... back from my business trip and six pounds heavier than I was a week ago. Six! So that's pretty awful. Where's that wagon when I need it? Mini-goals for this coming week: - Eat at a net deficit of 500 calories every day except Saturday. - Eat at a net deficit on Saturday. - Minimum of 30 minutes' exercise every day.…
  • Thank you for your kindness. Unfortunately, I fear it's unhealthy foods for me until Thursday, but after that I'm going to need to be on Best Behaviour for a very long time to compensate for the sins of this week. Perhaps I should recuse myself from this group until then. I feel like I'm desperately running after the…
  • Today's been a bit of a roller coaster, to be honest. Did a weigh-in this morning and was quite pleased with the results. Then had airport breakfast, aeroplane food, lunch when I landed (eight-hour time difference means four meals and a 32-hour day), and still haven't had dinner... and yet I'm already way over my calorie…
  • Thanks! I've picked up a few snacks in single-serving packs that should do me well, and I can take the rest with me for use during the trip. I would like to be an aisle walker for fitness purposes, but I feel like that would probably annoy the rest of the passengers...
  • You can bring anything you like, as long as it isn't a liquid or gel over 100 mL. There's some stuff you can't take off the plane at the other end (or have to declare), depending on where you're going and what the customs regulations are, but you can certainly take snacks from home on your flights!
  • Ha! Fair enough. Not a big drinker or a nervous flyer, though, so I think I'll forego this one.
  • You can do it! It sounds like you've had a rough time over the past few months, but losing 33 lbs (over two stone!) is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of it, and proud of how you look now that you've lost it. We can help with motivation to lose the last little bit! That's what I need to get rid of, too, so we…
  • This is a good point. I think I'll have to take some things along with me just because the timing of the flight is so awkward (I'll need to be functional and professional for about 26 hours straight, including for a good chunk of time after landing before I can get a meal, and not fuelling at all would probably have an…
  • I used to love sunflower seeds as a kid, but haven't had any in years. I'll go looking for things in shells, though; the little fiddly work will keep my hands occupied, too.
  • A worthy expenditure of calories!
  • I love nuts! Unfortunately, it's quite difficult to find room for them in my calorie budget most days, but I'll take a look at some of those packaged "shots" that come in at under 100 calories. Good thought; thank you!
  • I guess I could balance a minimal breakfast when I wake up with a big lunch right before I board (sort of a "brunch" arrangement, as boarding will probably take place mid-morning), plus snacks on the plane. Thanks for the tip!
  • Thank you! I'll have to try to get some fruits and vegetables that are travel-hardy. It's partly about boredom (no kids, so I'll be sitting doing nothing - and the flight doesn't even offer entertainment! I'll bring a book, but that only works for so long), but also partly because the flight is scheduled at an inconvenient…
  • Welcome to all the new people! This is honestly the nicest, most supportive thread I've seen on MyFitnessPal. Everyone pulls together and has so much good advice and so many kind words! Midweek good-news updates! 1) Got into the green for the week on Tuesday after Saturday's event blowout (and a Sunday of accidentally…
  • You can do it - swimming is great exercise!
  • Nuts would be my undoing - that's why we never have any in the house. I just can't afford the calories! That said, there were a few treats at this weekend's party that involved perfectly ordinary peanut butter and I had no idea how much I liked peanut butter until I tried one and couldn't stop. I ended up eating six (thank…
  • Congratulations! And that sounds lovely - I wish we had the weather over here for a lake party.
  • Luckily, people took away a lot of the leftover food, and my partner and I are taking the rest to work today. We've kept the raw vegetables, mind you! (We'll call that a small victory...) How did your weekend go?
  • This is maybe half of the tempting spread I had to deal with on Saturday. Not pictured: deli meat selection, cheese board, pitta and hummus, homemade guacamole, mini savoury eggs, mini beef and vegetable pasties, a slow-cooker filled with pulled pork, bread rolls, baguette slices, home-baked chocolate chip ginger cookies,…
  • Thank you so much for the encouragement. I'll do my best and see what happens... I've got patience (in general), but the idea of being stuck at 1000 calories for life is pretty scary. (Also... dancing might relieve my stress, but if you'd ever seen me dance, you'd believe me when I say it might increase everyone else's.)…
  • It's Friday morning and weigh-in time! The good: I met my mini-goals for this week, bringing myself into overall deficit and exercising every day. The bad: Apparently, I'm still on this depressing plateau, because my weight has gone up by 1.2 lbs, putting me right back where I was two weeks ago... and where I have been…
  • Thanks for the input! I have lost weight since I started logging (January 1st of this year), but haven't lost any substantive amount in at least a couple of months - this despite being on 1000 calories (yes, doctor-approved). I'm hoping that's related to other body changes (for instance, I've started strength training and…
  • BMI is a starting point, not a universal law! Obviously, no one should be way off-track (i.e., it's unlikely anyone will be healthy at a BMI of 12 or something), but not everyone's frame size and body composition fits neatly into the 18-25 range. I, for instance, would be overweight at the top of the "healthy" range, but…
  • Not in our office, unfortunately! But you're right; the hardest part is that it's all right there, especially when they all talk about how good it is and how many they're having. (I shoot myself in the foot there; I do the baking...) Next time there's a birthday, I'll do the setting up and I'll take your advice and try to…
  • Nori snacks! Nori snacks have very few calories and are a great way to quell a craving for a savoury or salty food. (Be aware, though, that they are salty - so if you're watching your sodium intake, think twice.)
  • Not to derail, but can you tell me a little more about what you do to maintain at that calorie level (in terms of activity, etc.)? Asking because I'm just under 5'2", male, and approaching maintenance... and I'm hardly losing anything on 1000 calories a day. Of course I'm sure there's some inaccuracy (although I do use…
