Interesting topic and somewhat contentious too... @Notoriousink i think we are or wereat some stage programmed by media and society to believe that FAT is fattening and unhealthy!! This was started with best intentions by the National Heart Foundation many years ago. It seems logical given ipids in the bloodstream were…

I am 95kg and 3kg gained in 3 weeks is not quite 3%...! I guess some of that was muscle, is that what you were implying?? If so thanks!!
-
@DREW2HOOD Sure I lift now! I do very similar program as you describe! However I had a big setback. I was doing heavy Dead lifts, next day my and my shoulder was totally unlovable and extremely painful! I had 2 plus years earlier an accident at work and had a painful injury that prevented any excercise for the longest…

Try something different, Leg Press, use a heavy weight, today it was 180kg For... 10 sets of 25 reps 2 mins rest *************************************************************** Now did 10 sets 15 to 12 reps.10 to 15 second rest! High Intensity Training is the name, not for the faint hearted, or foolhardy.... OMG what a…

OK so it's ALL upwards and onwards from here! Take measurements of your body now, let the game begin. Start out with a solid plan with realistic 3 Month goals Let MFP determine your calories and log all food and excercise Keep it simple and choose hardest excercises, not easy Walk and run a lot Not rocket science, just…

Hi Drew Wow your story is so similar to mine, except that I still feel I could use more muscle.I was 140 lbs and 6 ft 3 at school, now I am 210 and feel, well my arms still too thin! Tell us more about the most significant factors that you feel drove your gains! Especially if you have some details on Macro split up, and…

It's entirely a personal judgement, but the ideal way to go is make gains in bulk without much fatchange! For that you need to work the classic way that's given the same results for 40 plus years. Squats, Dead lifts, Bench Press and Pull Ups! Keep a record of every detail including measurements, weight and food intake in…

Try pushup, Pullup and Situp 3 by Supersets before EVERY WORK OUT, try to get more reps! No cheating, strict form only. Check form by researching best practice for these movements. This is your every day workout, and a warm up on gym days! Keep going until you hit a plateaux, at this point change! Depending on your…

************************ Your thesis simply and correctly assumes that calories IN MINUS OUT leaves some hopeful excess, whereupon protein synthesis occurs and you gain weight. [/quote] When you're physically active, you burn calories that your body could otherwise store as bodyweight. The more active you are, the Harder…

Dylan, think of your nutrition as the foundation of your (body) building, pun intended! There are many bricks to the foundation, the building will not fall over if you remove some! Your body is more of an ECOSYSTEM less like a machine, where if a part fails the machine stops, or performance is severely affected! You store…

What have you been trying to get the extra 5 lb How long have you been there what weight are you stuck at do you do close grip BP, Triceps Pushdown, Military Press or other pulling movements to gain strength in indirect muscles to break the plateau

***************************************************************** would suggest consuming at least 3,000 calories a day! Eat every three hours and make sure they're large portions, always have a snack in between meals. Make sure to do some strength exercises like squats and core workouts two to three times a week (no…

Fair point, but the sample size is MASSIVE, quite accurate enough compared to other sketchy methods, and I'm guessing it would be interesting to give it a try! Anyway, congrats on the results so far, keep it going! I reckon from the photos you'd be a classic Australia Navy Clearance Diver physique! Those guys can be…

Ah i can fix your problem! Enter each SET separately! That way you can log each set with different reps and weight for each! How's that work for you?
-
Hmm reading this thread, laughed so hard I may have burnt so much energy... Thanks! Question: since I'm loving logging nutrition and exercise in MFP should i log the 200 calories used reading the above?

You got me there Erik8484, chocolate, ice cream etc are great, further, these and other naughty foods are very pleasant! Nobody's perfect, life is to be enjoyed, but at the same time big food companies are putting sugar in the most unlikely foods, so it's worthwhile being informed. Great discussion on an interesting topic.

Interesting thread and it appears somewhat contentious, not that that's a bad thing! Well done ALL for the input, it proves there is no stupid question! I agree Powerlifters generally look too bulky, no question, but that LOOK comes only after many years of training, and the sensible trainee in question above would be in…

There is NO PERFECT ROUTINE invented, each of us will respond differently to stimuli in training! The biggest guys around are Power lifter in the Olympics - they only focus on the basic lifts for competition. The dead lift, squat and bench press! They do l I was reps and hit maximum intensity. The most cut and buff guys…

Fruits are fantastic sources of simple carbohydrate best…

Ideally you should have and track progress towards multiple goals! NUTRITION GOALS Tracking your daily food intakes is easy and fantastic at revealing where you need to adjust things to get the type if result you are aiming at. Weight gain or loss that is! TRAINING GOALS By logging the exercise routines and weights used…

I agree with the above posts about SUGAR MINIMISATION it's sinful that there is 35 grams, oh crap that much, of sugar in that product whose name shall remain nameless for legal reasons LOL! Seriously avoid sugar, look at the YouTube Documentary on sugar, ugh! You'll realise it should be regarded as not SUGAR, but white…

Look I feel your frustration and understand you hate bulking... We all have our challenges! I don't know what to suggest but am happy to help if you can tell me more details. Do you use the MFP for example? Tell me what macro split you are averaging?
-
I think from what you've said you have the answers already! Namely you know it's the nutritional levels that have caused the weight loss! So, add 100% Whey Protein Powder before bedtime and after workouts. Eat more nuts and seeds. Add COCONUT OIL to your shakes. Add FLAXSEED and Cinnamon into your foods and presto, your…

There is no one best program! The one you are on is fine, so as you are hitting the full body with Squats, Dead lifts, Pull Ups, Bench Press! Give those basic power lifts time to settle in, learn correct form and keep tracking everything on MFP! Get plenty of sleep and water and keep learning all you can from reading and…
