By my calculations, assuming that the figure of 1840 calories per day to MAINTAIN your weight is accurate: A. 1840 x 7 = means you need 12,880 calories per week to maintain. If you want to lose .5 lbs, you need to have a deficit of 1750 cals per week. Therefore you have a TOTAL CALORIE "budget" of **11,130** (12,880-1750)…

Oh- and by promoting "sugar free drinks" they are likely to sway parents to give their children ARTIFICIAL sweeteners- which are worse than sugar- some have even been shown to affect brain development.
-
I think this is a great campaign- EXCEPT that new research says that "low fat" is NOT good- especially for children!
-
This is not only about this one product. It's an epidemic. People are very concerned about their weight here in the US- yet I'm willing to bet that we have a higher obesity rate than anywhere in the world. Why is that? Everyone's buying "low fat", "low carb", "gluten free"- etc, etc, etc- yet we as a nation are suddenly…

This is what I mean when I say that labeling laws outside the US are much more consumer-oriented and much less susceptible to marketers trying to exploit loopholes to mislead the public. This is *exactly* what we need here.

Wow- thanks so much. What an inspiring story and an INCREDIBLE accomplishment. My hunch is that the hormones also help quite a bit. Thank you for sharing.

First, congrats on achieving your goal. That is a huge accomplishment. That said: You were BEAUTIFUL in the first picture- with just a little "pudge" to lose. My honest opinion is that in the second photo you look too thin. 114 is the very lowest recommended weight for a woman 5'5"- and that is for a SMALL frame.…

It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 lb. If you want to lose .5 lbs a week, you would only need a 1750 calorie deficit FOR THE WEEK. As long as your calories over the WEEK come out to a total deficit of 1750, it should work.

I love the way you think :)

Unless the "bowl" was several quarts...? :)

Agreed, however there are plenty of healthy carbs that are not REFINED & highly processed: Fruits, veggies, dairy, sweet potatoes.
-
I like to wrap my protein in a beautiful big leaf of red chard. Lettuce can work, too. Bread is a trigger food for me; if I eat it, I just want MORE. I eat no processed grains except organic oats- and feel very full.

Not only is it "not exactly zero"- it IS EXACTLY the SAME number of calories as oil. It **IS*** oil.
-
The average person, I think, does not think. The average person is likely using this product b/c - based on the claim of "ZERO" calories per serving- he/she thinks it's somehow magically less calories than oil. If one takes zero multiplied by 360 servings per container, one still gets ZERO. If the company did NOT think…

One of the issues you're going to encounter is that muscle weighs more than fat. A person could be flabby and soft looking at a lower weight- and look much better and smaller w/more muscle- but actually *weigh* more. I would not let the scale dictate where you "should" be.

Welcome! Much success in your journey to health & fitness

The point, to me, is that we as consumers deserve accurate information so we can each determine what we do or do not wish to consume- or completely ignore the info. That is our *right*. I have not read the article you reference yet (thanks for posting)- but if correct, 20% is a ridiculous margin IMHO. Other countries have…

Where do you get this calculation? If this is correct, it means there are fewer than 5 tablespoons in a can- since all it contains is OIL and oil is about 100 cals per tablespoon. It's been decades since I bout this stuff- but even at $2 a can it would be outlandishly expensive- compared to just buying a good OIL. You…

Thank you for sharing- it sounds as if she was a wonderful and inspirational woman. As they say on the plane "put your own oxygen mask on first". An important lesson.
-
Thanks for clarifying. Sounds to me as if you are going for HEALTHY & not anorexic. If you are feeling good & looking good & w/in the normal BMI range, I would consider stopping there rather than trying to reach an arbitrary fat percentage number. As to your family- if this is an ingrained cultural thing, it's going to be…

Awesome!!! I don't understand your photo- is that a collage? Are you on the left AND the right??
-
Judging from the fact that you've lost 75lbs, you took that advice! Well done!
-
Would love to hear YOUR input.
-
You could start higher- say 1500-1600 cals for 2-3 weeks. Weigh & log *everything* and see how quickly you're losing- then go from there.
-
How tall are you?
-
Seems to be missing part of the recipe? Are you starting with baked sweet potatoes?
-
Are you a male or female? Are you parents and sister overweight themselves? Do you come from a culture where people are generally overweight? What do you weigh currently? Has a doctor- or anyone other than your family- ever told you that you look too thin or that you may be overdoing it? If you're a female- do you still…

I no longer have to pull up my pants every 10 seconds like I have for the past 10 yrs!! (I thought it was a function of menopause) I have a WAIST!!! (and please someone tell me- what is "NSV"? (I'm guessing "sv" is for "small victory"?)

What does your friend LOOK like? I'd take my advice from someone you want to emulate.

PS I highly recommend a FOOD SCALE. If you don't have a food scale, measure the raisins carefully- they are very calorie dense.
