I would talk to your doctor about how much fruit is healthy, given that you are diabetic. Some fruits (bananas, mango) are exceptionally high in sugar while others (strawberries, watermelon) are mostly water.

Opening your diary might help us. I have a really hard time believing you're blowing your MFP set carb limit eating oatmeal, brown rice, and vegetables. Are you focusing only on percentage, or are you paying attention to grams? Grams are far more important than the percentage.

Calories in, Calories out. As long as you're burning the calories, you'll be ok. However, if you're intentionally trying to cut most of your sugar out, then bananas and sweet potatoes have to go.

I'm generally non-dairy b/c I'm lactose intolerant (i will eat mac and cheese in the comfort of my own home...), here's my substitution list: Milk -> Unsweetened Almond Milk (don't use the sweetened or flavored stuff, messes with recipes) Milk -> Chicken Stock (works in mashed potatoes and with other veggies) Butter ->…

I try to stay under 50g/day. I was never one of those "sugar is evil" people until I cut it out of my diet almost completely. I don't know that it has any effect on weight loss, but I FEEL so much better. I have much more energy, particularly after meals, and I don't have nearly as much stomach trouble as I did.

It doesn't feel like you're eating enough fat or carbs from looking at your diary. You may want to switch up some of those Bananas for (half or less of ) an avocado. Being somewhat low carb, I can't have Bananas at all because they contain so much sugar. Avocados have plenty of good carbs (fiber), very little sugar, and…

what is the end goal? For weight loss the most important thing is CICO (the caloric deficit). If you're trying to stick to a particular meal plan as a part of a bulking or cutting cycle, its my understanding that you need to be very accurate.
-
Reducing carbs has worked really well for me. Its part and parcel of the whole CICO thing, there's just less calories in most vegetables than there are in bread, pasta, rice, etc. I'm not as religious with logging as other people are, so if I mis-judge the amount of zucchini noodles I eat, i'm probably off by 30-50 cal...…

I eat well over 120g a day. Michael Phelps (who is obviously an olympic athlete) used to go through a carton and a half of eggs every day. My point is that its REALLY hard to eat too much protein. The only people I've ever encountered who had negative effects (kidney issues) from protein intake were consuming absolutely…

Yes. 1/4 women will get HPV in their lifetimes. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer. The "ill effects" of Gardasil are largely made up by people who think they understand the VAR (vaccine adverse reaction) database, but don't (case and point, at least 4 of the women who died in the VAR were car crash victims...…

The only reason I've heard of not to use Stevia (or any non-nutritive sweetener- sweet n lo, equal, truvia, etc), is that it MAY stimulate the insulin response. Its complicated, and further research is needed, but there is some support for the following hypothesis: tastebud-like receptors have been found in the guts of…

A good friend of mine does it, he eats almost no carbs (like 10g/day), but allows himself all the protein and fats he can handle. he looks incredible. He will tell you, as a warning, that you cannot cheat very much if you eat this way. He gives himself 1-2 cheat meals a week, but outside of those, I've never seen him touch…

I agree. I do a balance of both, HIIT MWF (circuit, bootcamp and OTF) and heavy weights + 30 minutes of treadmill intervals T&R. I've only "lost" 5-10 lbs at most, but i've gone from a solid size 8 to a small size 6 and I look (and feel!) completely different. The weight training has pulled in my stomach, waist, and thighs…

I agree with everything this poster said. The low calorie count and the complete lack of macronutrient balance (you are literally eating almost nothing but sugar and carbs) are probably throwing your metabolism out of whack. Try to work in some healthy fats (avocado, some nuts, eggs) in during the day and get some protein…

1) make sure you're eating a calorie deficit every day. You cannot outrun a bad diet; 2) Strength training is great for toning up and it will also make your muscles stronger, which will help you run faster, which will help you burn more calories and 3) sounds like you're doing plenty of cardio, just beware of the traps…

Definitely sounds like fluid retention. You don't state how long you've been doing the new workout or exactly what you're doing, but any new fitness plan will inevitably result in fluid retention. That's how the body repairs itself! The sodium intake likely isn't helping with the fluids. To the best of your ability, try to…

You've got this! Even though you lack the support from your family, you have it here. What sort of things worked for you last time that you can build on? I find that it's sometimes easier to start a little slow and build up, rather than throw yourself headlong into 1 hour of cardio + 30 minutes of weights + no carbs +…

Agreed that 158g seems high. I generally do a high protein/low carb. I don't use coffee creamers (way too much sugar) and I generally don't eat any fruit, if I do, they're watery rather than fibery. As a (very) general rule of thumb, if you can make a smoothie out of it (bananas, pineapples, mangoes, passion fruit,…

I usually do what I call "menu reconnaissance." if I know where we'll be eating out I look up the menu/nutrition facts on the website and decide what to order before I ever get there. If they have no nutrition facts, I try to figure out what might be the best options for me and where to make substitutions- if i have time i…

You're not alone. I fell off the wagon hard last week and then spent the weekend visiting a friend in NYC. I woke up yesterday morning, looked at my stomach and thought "what the hell happened there?", weighed myself and I'm up like 5 lbs... probably all water. I had a momentary lapse where I thought "well, to hell with…

Cauliflower rice make me very happy!

In this particular meal I would have done two things. Note, I am not vegetarian, but I am low carb and these are tricks I use in general: 1) I use unsweetened almond milk. That would save 11g/carbs vs the skim milk. 2) I make cauliflower rice! It's super easy, just buzz up cauliflower in a food processor. Pick out the…

I second the suggestion of Chili- my mom used to hide all sorts of veggies in it- onions, green peppers, carrots, zucchini, whatever we had. It doesn't have to be spicy and you can add enough meat and beans to mask it (do you like beans? maybe that's a veggie you would like?) Have you ever tried a zoodler? It's a little…

depends on the sauce... I've got a couple of great recipes that substitute sour cream, small amounts of reduced fat cream cheese work well as a thickener. If you need to add texture a corn starch/water slurry works well in asian cuisines, but it will make the sauce somewhat "slimy" (think sweet and sour chicken). Greek…

beef jerky, hard boiled eggs, pre-cooked chicken breast, deli meat, protein shakes, almonds, surimi, shrimp cocktail, turkey pepperoni. Make sure to watch your salt content in the 3-4 days leading up to the wedding. Try to avoid fast food, processed foods, and anything super salty (popcorn, chips, pretzels, salted nuts,…

The pound you gained over the weekend is more likely to be water retention than anything else. I wouldn't put too much stock in that. How are your measurements? Are you gaining or losing inches? Personally, I've found that when I plateau, I usually need to change something. Either my cardio (intervals, incline walking…

it could be water weight leftover from the excess sodium intake that will come with 4000 calories of excess eating. The body tends to hoard water for a number of reasons- extra sodium, muscle repair after weight training, etc.

My charge HR has been amazing for me. When I started trying to lose weight I was running steady state every day, but the scale wasn't really budging much and it felt like nothing was happening... then I looked at my heart rate. I had dropped from 79bpm in September to 58bpm in March, it was like a hockey stick! For me, its…
