1.) He may actually eat less than he appears to. I know sometimes my friend's husband will go for a long stretch of time without eating, but when he eats he EATS. Those who don't know him as well might see him eat and be led to believe he is just lucky to be able to pack that away. He looks like a small guy with clothes on…

With all due respect, losing 40 lbs is a much different story than losing 100+ lbs when it comes to loose skin. While genetics and age and other factors are all contributors, If you have 100 or more to lose, loose skin of some degree is almost always an inevitability I'm sorry to say- I've been perusing loose skin threads…

Thank you for this. It was powerful to read. I am lucky enough that I have not developed any conditions like diabetes, hypertension, joint problems, etc. I do know, however, that if I attain my goal of 140 lbs lost my body will never look the way I want it to without surgery, and as a single 20-something-year-old that is a…

I do- but I doubt I'm going to have significant muscle gain while eating at a deficit. If I can reduce muscle loss I know it will help a bit with appearance, but exercises aren't going to spot-reduce fat.

I know this- I meant in proportion to everything else. For example, I have not lost as many inches on my thighs as I have the widest part of my hips (the biggest part of me) when strictly looking at numbers, but I have lost about the same percentage in both areas compared to when I first measured. My arms have lost…

I'm 27 and 205 lbs right now (down 55 lbs from my highest) and I am SO OVER being in the 200s. My goal is to be under 200 by the end of the month, and I'm so impatient to get there. There's just something so psychologically taxing about being 200-something.

Yeah- if you have more weight to lose, it takes a lot more weight lost before you change sizes. I started at a size 20 and it took me about 40-45 lbs down before I realized I could comfortably fit in a size 18. I am also about 5'5", and started around 260 lbs. Congratulations on what you've lost so far!!!

You can totally do this! 1200 calories might be too aggressive for you, and if you feel like it's going to be hard to keep up, you can adjust your rate of weight loss and eat a bit more. You will lose weight more slowly but if you stick to it you WILL lose weight- use My Fitness Pal's goal setup thing and it will tell you…

I love this!!!!!

I'm willing to bet this is your problem. There's a lot of people on the boards that swear up and down they can accurately calculate their day's calories without weighing/measuring/logging (especially if they have logged in the past or have lost weight before), and they go back to logging again and realize how completely…

I have to wonder if these words would have helped you when you were starting out your weight loss journey? I think motivation and habit-changing is 75% of the war (maybe even more). I think sometimes people who are already where they want to be or close to it forget what it is like to need encouragement, and things like…

This, for sure. Until a couple of months ago, I was not super motivated but I would lose weight and maintain in spurts. While I'm not where I was hoping to be by this time, I'm still 36 lbs down from this time last year, and 54 lbs down from my highest weight about 1.5-2 years ago! I try to remember this when I look in the…

I'm guessing you're a man... While I've fortunately never been molested physically, in the past I have escaped some very scary situations (including being chased and followed) from men who weren't just dishing out compliments, and could very easily have overpowered me. I remember how threatening the catcalls could get, and…

You touched on a lot of things I've been thinking about lately. You've got this!!!!!

If you're only losing 60 lbs (yes, only), you're not likely to have any significant amount of loose skin... but everyone is different.

I can second the recommendation for an EatSmart scale. I trust it most of the time as it's pretty consistent. It is pre-programmed to keep feeding you back the same number if you step on it multiple times in a row, though. If I have any reason to not trust the number it's giving me (which is rare), I'll wait several…

I'm sorry you're struggling :'( Honestly, I know this is really hard to do, but I find I get energy just by making myself do things that I don't feel like doing- go out for a walk, clean, go grocery shopping, etc. I get satisfaction from having done something productive, and moving around tends to wake me up. There's…

Has it been a problem so far or are you just anticipating it will be? If it's already been happening, I think you worded it perfectly already.

I agree that I don't believe weight and body issues are acceptable conversation topics UNLESS they are brought up by the individual themselves. I have known way too many people who lost weight secondary to chemotherapy or other illness (i.e. uncontrolled diabetes), anxiety, depression, eating disorders... things that they…

This is not a National Institute of Health Study. Actually, it's not even a study. It looks like more of an opinion piece- there are no subjects, no methodology, no results, nothing. It is literally a paragraph that was written by a couple of people in Hungary and published in a low-impact journal. I don't have access to…

Your body knows what to do. Just keep calorie-counting and exercising and let it do its thing. (Edit: unless you have heart failure or other condition that could leave you fluid overloaded- in that case, talk to your doctor  )

Lots of great advice here- I also think a "day off of MFP" is not a good reward. Like others have said, smaller clothing and benefits of weight loss is a good reward in itself, but if you really want to get yourself something, make it an experience or a non-food-related something. I haven't officially "rewarded" myself…

Is it possible you ate 17,500 calories over maintenance levels the past few days? I'm guessing not, so it's probably water. It could be either your time of the month (that's what's plaguing me right now) or if you increased your exercise efforts your body could hold on to water, too. Try not to get too frustrated! Just…

You can eat whatever you want as long as it's within your calorie goals. I don't like the idea of "cheat days" or "cheat meals", but I do budget for the foods I am craving or want to eat. I find I crave certain foods less and less over time. Sometimes if I know a party, wedding, holiday or other big event is coming up, or…

Awesome! About 1 month or so ago, after losing over 40 lbs, I decided to try on the jeans that had been shoved to the bottom of my dresser drawer because they were always too small. They actually fit perfectly and I was so excited! That was the first time I had gone down a pant size since starting my weight loss efforts.…

I don't think it's too aggressive. 1 lb/week is about 1,450 calories per day per MFP for a 145 lb woman. As long as OP is comfortable with that, I'd say it's perfect. Yes it's a healthy weight, but I certainly don't blame OP for wanting to go lower. I'm 5'5" as well, and my overall goal is 120-130 lbs, which is also well…

Awesome and congratulations!!! This is where it starts!!

I remember back in high school when I returned from abroad and had lost a bunch of weight, I suddenly was everyone's friend- people who didn't used to talk to me much were suddenly interested in hanging out. Guys were openly flirting with me (actual flirting) for the first time in my life. I didn't think I had changed that…

You ROCK!!!! Congratulations!!!! You are amazing. You've got this!!!!

That water retention used to be a killer to my motivation (I didn't used to know it was water retention). Then I learned to recognize when it happens and it's so much easier to deal with it and stay on track. It's my time of the month and even though I am confident I have not deviated from my caloric intake goals of the…
