I'm not going to advise you don't try Keto if you are set on it. But you need to know a few facts: 1. Keto doesn't contribute much to weight loss if you are overweight. Your body has tons of fat to burn anyway. It's just a fashionable dieting myth. You will lose weight, but no quicker than on the same calorie level and…

Check your maths. You say you've lost 6lbs in three months since mid June. But it's only 2 months since mid June! Just under 1lb/week is excellent. If you are new to dieting you might find that inaccuracies are creeping into your calorie counting (there are loads of inaccurate foods in this app - the green ticked ones have…

When you are breastfeeding its doubly important to eat full fat products, otherwise your breast milk will not contain the right nutrients for baby. Fat is a really important nutrient for baby's growing brain and organs. Baby won't be able to metabolise vitamins or protein without a good supply of fats in your breast milk.…

Just keep this image in your mind and have a lovely time! (But keep active and keep eating healthy) From https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/o/orwell/george/art-of-donald-mcgill/

You probably haven't got loose skin (at 28!). What you've got is loose fat. Pinch the folds and you'll feel fat cells in there. Your skin is only a few mil thick, but I bet that fold is half an inch or more. It'll go when you lose a bit more weight. Exercise, massage, moisturisers and long sleeves/pants will save you for…

Calorie consumption is much more linked to weight than it is to height. I stand by my advice.

I agree with those who take a different view. The hormones that effect hunger and satiety come from the same part of the brain that controls sleep. Of course lack of sleep is a huge stressor, and any stressor will effect your ability to lose You have to deal with your sleep problems first before you even try to diet. .…

Good point!

This is not true. The only reason websites don't recommend low calorie diets is because you have to understand nutrition to keep a small number of calories balanced. I see a lot of 1200 calorie logs on MFP which are a joke nutritionally speaking. You've done really well so far. ANY diet will slow down metabolism. The…

It's a common problem to compromise when out. On a low calorie diet you just haven't got enough calories to waste on things like white bread. Be rigorous about what you eat. Make every calorie count. Think eggs, lean chicken, whole grains, quinoa, wholemeal bread, plain boiled fresh veg and small amounts of full fat dairy…

If your leg has hurt for more than a week visit the doc. You're not so huge that walking shouldn't be easy. (Sorry that's a bit of a back handed complement!) Get the leg sorted first, then try walking again. Good luck.

I think binge eating stems from an unbalanced diet, stress and not sleeping well. It's not a lack of self control - so don't beat yourself up. It's simply a hormonal response to stressors. The 'cure' is to reduce the stressors. Here's my six point plan. 1. Increase calorie consumption by 100 cals/day. (You'll still…

Eating well and cheaply means eating fresh and in season. Not too much meat, but cheaper fish, pulses and eggs. It means taking some time, energy and planning. But it's worth it to be healthy. If you are short of time try these: Omelette and salad Stir fry Grilled chicken and vegetables Baked potatoes, beans and salad Fish…

Love thyself is a handy mantra - but if you are eating too many calories that is more than likely the cause of your stall, rather than any mental block. You are eating at maintenance, so now at least you've learned what that looks like. Because you've still got 40lbs to lose I'd really gear back on the calories, go as low…
-
As long as you have lots of weight to lose, a low calorie start isnt a bad thing and should not lead to a stall. It looks as if however you are counting exercise or food calories incorrectly. So for now stick to your limit without adding exercise calories. See if that works.

2000 is very high for a diet for a woman, even my 6ft husband is on a lower intake. Start at 1000 (the minimum you can do on this programme) and work up. I promise if it's 1000 balanced calories you won't feel hungry once.
-
Tough. It's dreadful to feel discouraged if your chosen diet isn't working. The first two weeks of a diet should show on the scales. It's often the biggest loss time because of water loss. So if you are not losing check your scales and check your calorie counting. Eating 'good' isn't enough. (But I might misunderstand your…

My doctors told me to eat what I liked! Bad advice. Mending broken bones will increase your energy requirements. I'd up my limit by 100cals a day and see how that feels. Make sure your diet is balanced with every major food group i.e. Lean protein, wholemeal carbs, veg, dairy and fruit. Don't go low carb or anything like…

Every day. I'm doing what my slim friends do. .i.e exercising a moderate obsession.

The good news is that you know what your maintenance level is likely to be (minus a bit as you'll be lighter later). You are wise to worry about metabolism - but 1600 calories plus 'weekends off' does not a diet make. I think it's okay to go low cal at the beginning of a diet, but gradually ratchet up later. You talk of…

There are loads of secondhand ones on eBay. I have a Misfit. Very cool style, waterproof and everything I need.

Sounds like going to university might be your chance to get a bit more active. Walking is good, but 20mins is too little. Why not get yourself a step tracker and try to aim for 10,000 steps a day. (Cheap secondhand ones available all the time on eBay) Activity doesn't have to be the gym. Uni is a great opportunity to try a…

Try soup in a thermos with added chicken, fish or Tofu. Or smoked salmon and salad. Try grilled cold chicken and home made cabbage/carrot slaw with a sesame dressing. Two egg omelette cooked in the morning then served cold with salad. Or crudité with 1desertspoonful of mayonnaise and one or two hard boiled eggs. Or any…

Don't go low carb. It's a recipe for quick loss and long term failure. (And constipation) Go balanced.
-
The advice on protein is based on what the 90th percentile person in a western country eats. Most people eat too much protein, so a lot of the advice is skewed. Having said that I'm an advocate of BALANCE. But if you're eating 10% protein that's fine. Your hair will dull, your nails go brittle and you won't poo if you…

Please don't feel any guilt because you are snacking. It's your metabolism hitting back. I think it kicks in after you've been dieting for some time, or when you are in maintenance. Metabolic hormones, hormones that control fundamental emotions like anger and fear, love and hate AND hormones that control your circadian…

Dear Kristen, You sound so low. I wonder if being the housewife and looking after baby is getting you down a bit? It's impossible to lose weight if you are feeling sad. I'm sure you know that the easiest way to lose weight is healthy nutritious balanced meals and calorie counting (or portion control). But the other side of…
-
I wouldn't worry if you are generally losing weight well. I started on a low calorie regime and lost about 3lbs a week to begin with. If you have lots of fat to lose that's not a problem. But it will become a problem if you start to yo-yo between high and low calorie days. That's called binge eating. Don't have cheat days.…

1300 calories is hardly a small quantity for someone who's 5'3"? Your stomach shouldn't be growling on such a diet - if you are eating a balanced and healthy diet. I'd cut the snacking and stick to three healthy and nutritious meals a day. Don't be afraid of wholemeal bread or small quantities of cheese. Carbs and dairy…

I'm so sorry to read your story. But don't beat yourself up. This hasn't happened because you are a weak willed person. It's the natural effect of a damaged metabolism. After losing weight in conventional diets or due to anorexia it can take ten years to get the metabolism back to normal. During that stage everyone is…
