Thanks, Aeoline for the flow chart! Regarding veganism, in and of itself, it's not a weight-loss guarantee. The dessert recipes I've seen online with all the dates for sweetener. . . wow! Calories galore! You can be vegan and lose weight, but you have to measure, weigh, and record everything. It's just the way it is.

129. Five pounds to go.

I'm 60. I began at 198 at 58 years old and now am 134. These 64 pounds took 18 months. Being older, I eat fewer calories than suggested on MFP and exercise five hours a week, but I do not consume all I burned in calories because I gain weight. Perhaps the algorithm works on younger women; but I've found it to be faulty in…

I'm 60 and have taken off 65 pounds. It took two years. When I was younger, the pounds fell off; now I have to exercise more and eat less. To maintain 135, I eat 1200 calories and exercise five hours a week. I eat back about 200 of the 400-500 calories burned. Slow loss is better than no loss. I do what it takes.

I could eat quinoa for 30 days, but it has too many calories per half cup. I love it with stir-fried garlic, onion, zucchini, green pepper, and mushrooms, then throw a little shredded Parmesan cheese into the mix. Yup, I could eat that everyday for 30 days. As it is, I eat lentils everyday for lunch, and quinoa I love much…

How old is your mom? What about a framed, pinned butterfly or a locust with wings outstretched (they look like a Degas ballerina)? A book by her favorite author? Write a haiku and watercolor the background, then frame it. Locate a childhood chum and ask the chum to surprise your mother with a letter or phone call.

You've heard of May-December stories in literature? It's not uncommon in real life. If you want to push your daughter straight into this man's arms, nag her. If you let it run its course, it will end most likely. My 18 year old son was being chased by a 23 year old married woman. I was very careful in what I said never…

Tofu. Do people really eat that stuff?

I, too, am insulin resistant. The best diet I've found for this (and you could have a little beer if paired correctly with the proper amount of protein) is in a book titled The Insulin-Resistance Diet--Revised and Updated: How to Turn Off Your Body's Fat-Making Machine by Cheryle Hart and Mary Kay Grossman. I returned to…

Thanks everyone!

There are definitely some positions I can't achieve. I'll look into this video by Deason. Thanks! All the suggestions have really bolstered my determination. I appreciate everyone's input.

Timothy, I would never quit exercise! I agree with you that it's of paramount importance. I have abounding energy just a bad set of shoulders. dmkoenig, thanks for the encouragement! I'm headed to the library to pick up (I hope they still have it) an old Richard Hittleman publication, "28 Day Yoga" I found in my 20's (wow,…

I physically worked too hard for too long, so I've got some joint issues, though I do agree that mixing things up is good mentally, and I've done a lot of that until I hit my weight loss goal. However, there are always these darned shoulders that create pain I would rather do without, so I guess I just began to do what I…

As with tap_0072, I'll be happy to support you. I'm 59 and have lost 63 pounds (again), so I understand the difficulties of losing weight when one is a summer or fall chicken. There are lots of yummy things in my house that I don't touch even though I'm the baker. Fear is my motivator. I'm afraid of poor health as I get…

Nope, I don't. If we continue down this path, it will eventually lead to higher premiums for those who are genetically predisposed toward certain illnesses such as dementia, cancer, heart disease, which, despite all the yadda-yadda about everything being a result of obesity, may manifest itself or not. Regarding obesity…

I've had adrenal fatigue from overwork and over stress. It isn't fun. It makes sense that if one runs on adrenaline day after day, the system will suffer. The answer for me was rest. I'm fine now.

My BP was climbing, and since I've taken off 60+ pounds, it's a little on the low side. Diet and exercise work wonders.

My cousin has a photo of my three old aunts standing in front of a hanging quilt. She said she planned to take a photo of herself, her sister, and me in front of the quilt, and she wasn't going to be the fat one in the photo. We all began dieting for the photo to be taken almost a year later. We all took the challenge to…

I'm 59, 5'2" and have lost 60 pounds bringing me to 137. I'd like to take off just three more little pounds, but they aren't budging. This is the millionth time I've lost a great deal of weight, but 150 was always the lowest, so I'm very tickled to be here. The secret of my success is to eat like a rabbit and run like a…

Red Lobster shrimp linguine is not only high in calories, but the sodium is outrageous! I easily retain water, so I watch the sodium lest the scales be up for three days and I find myself discouraged.

I record all fruit and those veggies higher in calories such as green peas, butternut squash, but not lettuce, tomatoes, celery, carrots, and I eat a ton of that. Six days a week a maintain a calorie-deficit from exercise, and while I eat a plethora of veggies, I figure off the record I've eaten no more than 100 calories…

Just as we all think differently, our bodies do not burn calories equally and can not be governed by an algorithms. I work out two hours, six days a week and eat 1200-1400 calories. The weight loss is down to 1.5 pounds a month, and I think I might just be at the end of the weight loss. I'm 5'2" and 137 lbs., which is much…

I lost 60 pounds walking and watching calories this past year. Your doc, no matter how respected, is wrong. Very wrong. Just now I've added strength training. It was all walking and using MFP to track calories.

I do in-home walks with Leslie Sansone via YouTube. I do two hours everyday in the comfort of my living room.
