  • Ok here goes, I'm in. I'm new. My name is Sasha and I live in Calgary, Alberta. Nice to meet you all! I'm also a member of the You VS the Year challenge, and through their FB page I've joined a January streaking challenge, so my mileage should be pretty decent this month. My goal is 150km. I'm looking for accountability…
  • About 3 hours from Edmonton ;)
  • Congrats to everyone. I quit last February after 21 years smoking - quit a few times before too but never stuck. I quit this time cold turkey - with a little help from upstairs I think. I bought the book years ago - and I think I only read to maybe chapter 2.....I never gave it the time of day, but I guess I wasn't truly…
  • Hmmm...I think I ate more by default. I guess you could say my appetite increased as now that I look back on it, I didn't eat as much because I just didn't feel like it - the smoking suppressed that, it's not like I didn't eat on purpose. Now without that stimulant, I feel hunger different - more often, like "normal"…
  • Oh this group has been so helpful and I just found it! I'm 5'0 and currently 124 pounds. I quit smoking last February and packed it on - I was averaging 106-108 - and that's what I'm struggling to get back to. There was a comment earlier about how wack the BMI chart can be for short people. Numbers wise - people will think…
  • Not to stir the pot here, but I think the conversation is really a he said she said that I believe isn't going to get anyone anywhere nor any farther ahead. We are all going to have our opinions, but at the end of the day, because this is such a grey area with no definitive "right" answer, one can really skew the facts in…
  • Jeez, how did I miss this thread?!?! Calgary here!!!
  • Since I started using my fitbit a few weeks ago, I was noticing that it was adjusting my calorie allowance here on MFP counting it as exercise. I personally don't allow myself those extra calories, so when I exercise through MapMyRun, I'll allow those calories to stay, but I zero out any "adjustment" made - I basically…
  • I love this thread! The more runners the merrier! I have always loved running, but seriously got on the band wagon earlier this year - quit smoking in February and replaced that addiction with running. It was a long haul, but have worked up to 5-6K average 5-6 days a week. I love it. I started again to help me lose the…
  • That's inspiring. I struggle to see no progress in months, so seeing these provides hope to people like me. Congrats to you - way to push. Goes to show, when someone wants something bad enough, they'll make it happen. Be proud ;)
  • Good day and welcome from Calgary :)
  • Ok so just to be random and different as it seems all of you pretty much know each other, I'll throw something into the works because none of you know me lol. However posting in the why I'm a bad MFP friend thread might not be the best way to get you to know me, but meh, fluff it! -I log in, but I never ever look at…
  • Wow, and because I couldn't preview, I totally fluffed up my grammar hahaha, I meant to say the preview deleted my 5 paragraph page. I can write and talk, I promise! Jeez, so hopeless hahaha! Anyway, good luck everyone, we call can do it :) I also didn't mention I'm 36!
  • Wow, this preview function just deleted my 5 page paragraph on here! So I'm not going to re-type it, so here's the short and dirty version lol: My name is Sasha and I live in Calgary, Alberta. 121 was my start weight when I found MFP 80 days ago (about 118 now), goal is 108 which was my weight in January. I quit smoking 6…
  • Slow and steady wins the race ;) Good luck! You're in the right place, which is half the battle!
  • Calgary, AB
  • I have exactly 10 more to go to get to my goal. I'd love to add some more motivators to my friends list! And I'd also love to be that accountability check for someone else! As they say the last 10 are the hardest to get rid of, surely we can all use as much support as we can get. And you can't push others if you're not…
  • Feel free to add me! That's the reason I started here too almost 2 months ago now....it's tough, I know. Congrats to you on the journey....the more support we have, the better :) You can do it!

  • This is a great post. For years I was hammered with "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". I was never a breakfast person, never ever. Over the last 6 months, I thought healthy eating to lose weight meant having to eat breakfast to kick start my metabolism to help me lose weight. So, I started eating breakfast.…
  • That's fantastic! Congrats, and here's to many more!!! ;)
  • I'll throw in 4.5 for the group, so totaling 255.3 now! What a fantastic feat!
  • Yes please! 5', 117.5, looking to shed 12 more by snowfall....It's always the last pounds that are the hardest - and I find it's so frustrating it's hard to stay motivated and on track
  • I run at lunch every day, 4-5km and included walking time it's just under an hour. I work downtown and have access to go run out by the river. There's stairs too. Luckily my location can accommodate that though, but it sounds like you have that option to get out too! Why not?! For me, I have such a busy hectic life outside…
  • Count me in ;)
  • Brush your teeth ;) After every meal, when you wake up and when you go to bed....sounds odd, but it helped me - I quit almost 5 months ago, gained nearly 15 pounds in 3 months....I know what you're going through. I also at a LOT of sunflower seeds.
  • Thank you for this....it's good to not have unrealistic expectations, I don't want to fail before I begin. That makes sense though too, as even at my PB, my 5K time is still over 30 minutes.
  • Wow, that's inspiring lol there's hope for me yet....yessss!! Thanks!
  • This is sort of a scary discussion lol I've committed to doing a half marathon next May. I run now average 6 days a week, however only between 4-6km and a pace of average 6:45/km. I only started running regularly (this time around) about 2 months ago. I guess I have a lot of learning and work to do. Good luck OP!
