Most definitely. The vast majority of studies show no evidence of GMOs being the scary devil's fruit that the rabid extremes of hipster and new age cultures have made it out to be. A very small minority of people are affected by the so-called harms and generally suffer from underlying conditions that would be present even…

Lots and lots of physical activity! One of my biggest bucket list items is volcano tours, and of course the ones I *really* want to do are the most physically demanding.

Your best bet would be to work with a dietician and experiment with amounts. I've noticed a major improvement in my overall energy and mood since I increased my carb and fat intake (good fats mind you, nuts, avocado, etc). Sodium is a big thing to monitor, particularly given your age. Assuming things like blood pressure…

I tend to cycle through recharge foods. Right now I'm finding 60g (roughly) of naan, half an avocado, and about half a teaspoon of lemon juice is working well for me, but before that a pack of peanut butter cups worked wonders. Try experimenting with different options and remember to switch things up from time to time.…

So, this has turned into a bit of a petpeeve for me, but I hate eating at my parents. My mom and baby bro & sis are all super happy and supportive, but my dad makes it super difficult to eat smart (strange given how attentive he is to detail when making my mom diabetic-friendly meals). He's happy that I'm losing the…

I find the problem I have with fasting is that it causes stomach acid and appetite issues, but I know others who have had great success with it. If it's working for you and you're getting an appropriate amount of calories and nutrients throughout the week, then go for it!

Oh, it's definitely a great loss, no doubt about that! I still have 86lbs to go before I reach my goal window though, and I'm finding a healthy dose of self criticism helps keep me on track! ^_^ I'm still super happy with how well I've done (and so quickly), especially when considering I've been morbidly obese my entire…

SW: 302 (April 25) CW: 255 (Sept 2) GW: 160s Not as big a difference as some others, but I feel the difference (my joints feel years younger!) Next comparison photo will be in January.

Invest in a food scale that weighs in grams (I got mine for ten bucks at Walmart). This is the single-most effective tool for monitoring intake and assisting in weight loss. If you have a particularly mindless/boredom food, eliminate it. It's not fun at first, but with patience you'll reach a point where you don't need it.…

A typical breakfast consists of a serving of cereal (roughly 50g depending on variety and serving size), a banana, 30g frozen raspberries and 80ml 2% milk, equaling to about 420 calories. Since switching to this formula I've noticed I'm staying satiated longer early in the day, I have less trouble with nausea and overall…

The best thing I can suggest for bringing up calorie intake is to incorporate healthy high-calorie foods into your diet. Most root vegetables and beans, as well as dried fruits and nuts are calorie-dense and generally are health-friendly as long as you aren't choosing preparation methods like frying. You can also allow a…

It's entirely possible to be in the overweight bmi range with little negative impact, but once you start pushing the upper range of overweight bmi problems start to arise. Even if you take care of yourself metabolically, excessive weight will still eventually impact your joints. Once the joints start going your tolerance…

The heavier you are to begin with, the faster your initial loss will be. It's quite likely that a good portion of the losd was water weght, especially if you've reduced your sodium intake, but don't take that to mean there wasn't mass lost as well. A loss is a loss, as long as you aren't overtraining or starving. :)

It could be the type of exercise. My mood's generally pretty good and relaxed after a couple hours of swimming, but I do fifteen minutes of aerobics and I'm ready to bite someone's head off. As for depression, it tends to flare up if I have a bad performance day, but I'm much less negative about myself than I used to be.

Why would you read a couple of articles, scare yourself, and then not read some articles that actually explain the issue? EXCESSIVE cardio (like all exercises) is the danger, not cardio itself. Muscle breakdown only happens when you're consistently running too high a calorie deficit. As I understand it, I currently can run…

Once I've reached and held maintenance for a good period of time, I'll probably ease up and save counting for things like post-special occassion recovery or if the scale goes up more than 10lbs.

I haven't tried the builders line, but I've started picking up Clif bars. My favorite's the oatmeal/raisin/walnut variety, but I'm looking forward to trying out the seasonal bars this fall and winter.

Used to be a diehard Häagen-Dazs fan until President's Choice started making premium varieties. Currently I'm hooked on the Loads of Cherries variety.

It sounds like an attitude problem, not the threads. The most I ever see here that *might* count as bragging is when the "eat what I like" people are looking for like-minded users or are asking/answering a question that pertains to weight loss. Frankly I'd rather see people discussing what's working for them (or even just…

Water weight or simply the weight of the undigested food. Breads and cheese are especially evil culprits for myself until I have a bm. As long as you maintain good habits, an indulgence here and there won't undo your hard work. :-)

The biggest benefits of home made food is the lack of sodium and sugar. A can of my favorite soup is only 130 calories, but has more than 50% of the daily sodium intake limit, so I've been experimenting and trying to find a copycat recipe for it.

I have ice cream almost every day. I eat burgers and pizza fairly regularly. Heck. I had three cans of soda this past weekend. I've lost 39 lbs since April 25th. Really the only thing I look at any more besides calories is sodium, but I've backed off a bit with that because it was quite frankly depressing when I realized…

Sadly your mother is a very toxic person, and the best thing you can do with toxic people--even your parents or children--is cut them out. Someone very dear to me has gone through hell and back with a toxic mother, and while there are still some difficulties, over a year has gone by and they are ultimately glad they…

My first goal was to lose 70 lbs, but it's gone much quicker and I'm now hoping to lose a total of 130 lbs by January 2018. So far I've lost 39 lbs since April 25th, so I have 16-ish months to lose another 91 lbs.

As a child I was at the higher end of healthy weight. My weight gain started around my first period (about 13yo), made a couple of jumps over my adult years (18, 22, 24) and then starting around 26 I bounced back and forth in a 20 lbs range for four years before finally giving myself a kick in the *kitten* this past…

Hi there! Been using MFP since the start of June and have lost 26lbs so far. Loss rate's gone up since I started swimming. Feel free to send me a friend request!

Are there any effective methods to reducing/toning a belly apron besides crunches that are L-vertebrae friendly? Two of my L's are degenerated and easily slip with certain movement, and crunches often cause inflammation in my lumbar region.

You would be surprised what people will judge over. Years ago when I was on a meal plan made by my dietician, a woman (total stranger) started tearing in to me because I was having half a bagel and a tbs of cream cheese with my lunch. Basically it was along the lines of "You're going to have explosive diarrhea and a heart…

As others mentioned, your husband doesn't seem very well informed on the matter. When I was going to the gym I was 300+ and was able to handle lifting. The only thing that would keep me from doing it now (besides interest) is that I'm in need of some chiropractic therapy atm to fix some problems in my spine's C and upper T…
