  • I don't reward myself really, but get a great buzz from being able to wear clothes that I have not been able to for a number of years. I am older than many here, so not only have children, but also one grandchild - and a second on the way apparently. It is nice to think that each lb lost might add extra months or years to…
  • I feel the same, and I think the site overstates the number of calories burned in some cases. I don't want to eat to a limit and then exercise so that I think I can eat more than I should. I want to stick to my limit, and if I get the benefit of exercise as well that is a bonus.
  • I know the feeling. I used to love crisps, chips, bread and beer (well I still do), but my weight ballooned to dangerous proportions - a BMI well over 40 - that I just had to do something about it; rather than buy yet another larger size set of clothes because all the previous ones were too tight. I'm not sure that I eat…
  • Just click on a name underneath the small photo. A pop-up box should appear with a few details on (first visit, number of posts etc.) Click on the name again, which should be the top line in the box, and you will get a page with a profile on, and a button marked "add as friend" (or something similar).
  • From one Jonathan to another I am happy to be a friend.
  • 2 Weetabix and 200ml semi-skimmed milk. 234 calories according to my calculations.
  • A gallon a day? Do you not spend all day in the toilet? I pray you never get stuck for hours in traffic.
  • Hmmm. My view is that the body adjusts to a lower intake of calories quite quickly, and it would be a surprise if it didn't because it doesn't know how much food it is going to get tomorrow. The problem with this site's calculations is that they are very inflexible. When I started I put my goal as losing 2lbs a week, which…
  • I've done it!! 19st 12lbs on the scales this morning. Three weeks gone and 13lbs lost. I feel like celebrating but that would probably involve far too many calories, so I will content myself with looking forward to the 18st 13lbs appearing next.
  • I watched a tv programme a couple of weeks ago where they had some healthy volunteers eating "superfoods" and others eating normal fruit and veg. They then did blood and other scientific tests on both groups and discovered there was no difference at all in their body's production of any vital chemicals or nutrients. The…
  • Sadly, most dairy products play merry hell with my insides so I avoid them except for small amounts of semi skimmed milk.
  • Thanks Katie. Looking at the health service website, I would need to get below 15 and a half stone in order to be rid of the obese label on BMI, although I would still be overweight. That is almost another 5 stone to go just to be overweight - it seems a long way away.
  • I have gained the habit of putting the filling between two lettuce leaves. Seems to work quite well, especially with a slice of ham or slices of boiled egg, although I have to choose the shape of lettuce leaf correctly or the egg starts to fall out. When I get to 19st I might allow myself a slice of smoked salmon - yum.
  • Well, I was 20st 0lbs this morning, so with 12 days to go I think that I might manage it. Onwards and downwards hopefully....
  • Wow. What a lovely story, and congratulations for all that you have achieved. I read your post and the inspiration just flowed over me, so much so that I am now determined to keep my progress going. It was sad to read about your Mum, but I am sure she would have been not just proud but delighted to see how well you have…
  • I try not to eat at all unless/until I feel hungry. I believe that eating at certain times just because of a routine, or tradition has done me no good at all. If I do feel hungry and don't have much time then 2 Weetabix and 200ml semi-skimmed milk is 234 calories. It is surprising how many hours I can carry on after that,…
  • Yes I weigh myself every morning. I realise that there may be no change for 3 or 4 days, or even a rise if I have eaten more refined carbs than I intended; but I can cope with that. My view is that every time the weight drops by one pound, it is a boost to my mental state. Probably rather irrational, but there it is.
  • I would say, first be completely honest with everything you eat. Log and weigh everything you are used to eating in one typical 24 hour period. If you are like me, you will be shocked at the number of calories. 86 in just one chocolate biscuit (cookie for those not here in the UK). It helps if you are not a compulsive…
  • I agree with tripple7. I would stick to a spirit such as vodka and sugar-free mixers. Do exercise well before going out for the evening and therefore build up a reserve of calories which hopefully mean you will not go too far over the limit. Plus maybe eat some protein before the drinking in order to give your stomach…
  • Thanks for the replies everyone. Apparently 6lb in 9 days is good, but it seems that a lot of the loss might just be water. However, it is good for morale. I agree about the beer thing PaulHolliday1, that is 70% of my problem. Once I have a beer, it leads to 4 or 5; so I have cut them out completely at present. I can't…
