  • So true. I intentionally buy the small 100-150 calorie snack size bags instead of the large bags. You then can keep yourself down to eating just 1 or 2. And they're not more expensive - you can get 50 small bags of chips for about $12. Compare this to 4 large bags which go stale if you don't eat them quick enough.
  • It actually is. It's just something scientifically I want to understand, and it plays into these eating competitions too. Did Johnny Chestnut actually gain 5 pounds from eating those 73 hot dogs, or did he purge them some other way, or does the body just not absorb all the nutrients? I'm definitely NOT wanting to gorge on…
  • I'm sitting at my desk all day developing computer software. It's not all typing - there is a lot of thinking. So I get up twice a day and take a walk outside around the building complex (20 minutes each). I use that time to not only get steps in, but to think about what I'm coding. So, I'm doing work. I also take a 2 hour…
  • I think the main reason people gain back the weight is that when they reach their goal they celebrate a job well done. They no longer have the aches and pains from when they were bigger. They aren't out of breath anymore. They can do stuff they weren't able to before. They forget what it was like to be larger. And the…
  • McDonalds: The Artisan Grilled Chicken is only 390 calories. Get that and a water or a black coffee. I do that when I'm out with my 8 year old daughter when she's craving a happy meal. A cheeseburger happy meal is only 500 calories if you have it with a water, mini-kids fries and apple slices.
  • OMG yes! I'm a sucker for cashews - they're my drug of choice. sigh.
  • Same here. I had a bad breakup, and walking my dog every night for 2 hours down neighborhood sidewalks helped me think and process the breakup and the side-effect was that it gave me a LOT of exercise, and I lost weight without even knowing it. Plus, the empty feeling in my stomach made me not want to eat much.
  • I had the same issues about 20 years ago - where my pits would cause hard-calcified white stains as well. I tried different deodorants and laundry detergent. I now only use Era laundry detergent and Sure deodorant. I have none of these problems anymore. Maybe there was something I was allergic to? Or my body has a bad…
  • I tried for 10 years to become a morning workout person, but it would never take. I have no problem getting up at 5:00am - but I want to relax with a cup of tea, read the morning paper, eat breakfast and get ready for work. Putting a workout in there - I always had excuses. I would be up the previous night too late, too…
  • If you overeat AND drink - you make yourself dehydrated and lose pounds. Example: Eat a 1/2 pizza and 20 wings... about 3,000 calories. You'd normally gain 1 pound. Now, combine that with 8oz of whiskey. (1,000 calories)... That's now 4,000 calories. But the whiskey dehydrates you and causes you to lose 2 pounds (32 oz) of…
  • This sounds very similar to what I do. I plan my 'cheat meal' (not DAY) way ahead of time. I plan what I'll have. Hmmm... Stuffed Jalapeño Poppers, Shrimp, some Cheetos, honey toast on a roll, slice of chocolate cake, whiskey.... Then I'll buy ONE 160 calorie small snack size bag of cheetos, buy 10 large jumbo shrimp,…
  • Early on, for the first month of dieting, I needed a snack. Now, a bottle of water keeps me at bay, and helps me lose weight faster. I do snack once a week - and usually have 10 large jumbo shrimp and cocktail sauce (20 calories each = 200 + another 100 calories for the cocktail sauce).
  • What's more important to you, feeling good right now while binging, or looking great in a year? I was similar to you - I had to change my mindset. It took me over 2 years to reach that mindset where I was completely upset at the way I looked, felt and portrayed myself. I was more upset at myself when I would even think…
  • 1 to 2 drinks every other night, substituting those calories for your snack calories is fine. That's about 3 to 6 drinks a week. Doing it this way, you won't need many snacks, and it might actually help you go to sleep at night without a late night binge... However, drinking that all on ONE day a week is much harder to do.…
  • I agree with IslandGirl. I weigh myself every morning at the same time, and I don't obsess about every pound. I actually find it humorous when I weigh myself after going crazy working out all weekend, eating hardly anything, that I gain 3 pounds. I know it's all water weight due to my muscles needing the water to repair.…
  • Estimate. 1 Chips Ahoy cookie is about 40 calories. 1 Panera Bread Chocolate Chip Cookie is about 440 calories. What's the homemade cookie closer to? And be honest. Don't guess 'ah, about 50 calories when it's really 400. You can't trick your body that way. Most homemade cookies I've eaten are in the middle somewhere,…
  • It could be that he's annoyed because he thinks this is just a 'phase' you're going through. He probably thinks it's temporary - like 2-3 months, and he's annoyed he has to change his habits because of this 'stupid thing' you're going through. Which is going to fail anyways, because you've always been so big, you can't…
  • The 'cheating' is what kills dieting. You need to keep an eye on what you're eating 100% of the time you're dieting to see results. If you're cheating more than 1 meal a week, you won't see results. You have to talk to yourself constantly when you feel like cheating that your last 2 days of hard work will be lost in that 2…
  • Motivation is the #1 most important thing in weight loss. You have to get to a point in your life where you can't do something you want to do, and you need to lose weight to get there. Are you unhealthy? Back pains, foot pains? Want to zip line but are too heavy? Want to be able to walk around the block without being out…
  • I feel that dieting aggressively for those that need to lose 100+ pounds is the way to go. You'll see your pounds drop quicker, and that will give you motivation to continue. If I'm dieting and restricting myself, and I'm hardly seeing any progress, like 1 pound a week, I'm not as motivated. After a month, I've lost 4…
  • I completely agree OP. The reason for people doing this is to 'protect themselves'. They believe that they're fat because something outside their control. They can't come to the realization that they did it to themselves. That realization would hurt too much. So, they cope by sticking their heads in the sand like an…
  • I eat 2 fig newtons 30 minutes before working out to give me some energy for the workout, then I eat a 400 calorie meal after the workout, and I'm full for 5 hours. And I drink a lot of water during the day. If I don't have a small snack before the workout, I get too hungry during the workout. And I'm always hungry after…
  • Exactly. That's what I've done as well. I've lost 44 pounds by just CICO. I have a very similar story and weight as jnancejr. I also started on April 1, 2016. I'm 5'8" and lost from 223 to 179. Still going for another 20 or so. I watch CICO, eat anything I want, but I have to watch the calories. I had pizza and wings last…
  • How do you weigh it? Do I take the ingredients apart and weigh each ingredient separately and then put them back together?
  • Nope. I'd never lose weight if I ate them back. I use my exercise calories as a buffer in case I log anything wrong or the packages are off. For example, I eat a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich every morning. It says 300 calories. It might actually be 350 or 400. I don't weigh it, I just trust the number on the package. By…
  • 1-5 pounds a day. If I drink 2 pounds of water (32oz), I gain 2 pounds immediately. If I eat 2 pounds of chocolate cake, I gain 2 pounds immediately. Calories have nothing to do with immediate weight gain during the day - the actual weight of the food does. 2 days later, the water I drank doesn't increase my weight (unless…
  • I used to exercise, eat small meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The problem was, I drank an alcoholic drink with a few munchies every night after 7:00. This caused me to not be able to lose weight. The deficit I created during the day was wasted at night. Simply removing this late-night binge resulted in me being able…
  • People have different experiences. I've lost weight twice. Both times about 8-10 pounds per month, and it's been difficult (hard to do), but simple (just eat less). I lost 35 pounds in 2001 (198 to 165). It was simple back then - just eat small portions of the same food I've always eaten. Gained it all back and some…
  • How do you weigh food? Do you have to take things apart? For example, I have a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich in the morning. Do I need to (1) take apart the sandwich into the croissant, cheese and meat parts, weigh the croissant separately, the cheese separately, and the meat separately, then put them back together? Or (2)…
  • If women on weight watchers knew the alcohol secret, I bet a lot of them would be pleased. For example: They had a hard weekend, eating bad, and need to weigh themselves on Monday, but are scared of the scale at the Weight Watchers meeting. They don't want to be embarrassed. Solution: Drink heavily on Sunday night. The…
