  • I work rotating 12-hour shifts, 4 weeks of day shift then 4 weeks of night shift, repeat ad infinitum. On day shift, I have a bar/shake first thing when I roll outta bed and head to the gym. I have a mid-morning snack a couple hours into shift, so around 0800 hours(usually fruit & a protein bar). I normally end up eating…
  • I turned 40 earlier this year. The big 4-0 was some pretty solid motivation for me!
  • I'm 5'4" (I SWEAR I used to be 5'5" but whatever) - other than pregnancy, I've been up to 165 and fluffy. I'm currently maintaining at ~150, so I'm a lot heavier than most people would consider ideal, but I stay pretty freakin' lean (for reference, the little avatar pic is from back in March, when I did a cut and got down…
  • Really? You sure about that?
  • Shot in the dark - instead of counting calories, Renaissance Periodization put out a "simplified fat loss diet" that specifies how many servings of each of these different categories you eat per day, with a visual estimator for portion size. It's a progressive thing as well, like for this many weeks you use this number of…
  • "I appreciate your time but I'm really not interested." Repeat if necessary. If he still won't back off, "I've stated my position quite clearly. Is this something I need to explain to your supervisor since you don't seem to understand?"
  • A minute is better than nothing! Try to do a minute, take a break, go for another minute. Next week try 90 seconds instead of 60. You can get there but it'll take time. You'll get stronger and you'll start to feel better. Just keep at it.
  • Awesome NSV!
  • TOTALLY RANDOM but when I saw the title of this post, I thought of the 666 Challenge - it's 600 pound raw squat, 600 pound raw deadlift, and 6 minute mile run all in the same day. Which gets a big fat nope from yours truly LOL. But ANYWAY, congrats on your progress and best wishes for continued success!
  • if you're referring to the screen I think you are, the minus sign indicates you've gone over your allotment for the day, as those numbers show how many of each macronutrient you have remaining for the day. So if you're supposed to have: 150P/117F/465C and you've consumed: 214P/77F/385C it would display: -64P/40F/80C If…
  • I think it's awesome that you're wanting to develop healthy eating habits not just for you, but for the little one too. Remember to be patient with yourself though - just think, the most amazing thing your body has ever done took ~40 weeks, right? So don't expect it to do crazy magic overnight. Nourish yourself, be…
  • Hey Karissa, just wanted to say congrats on the baby & best wishes!

  • Hey congrats on your progress so far! Glad you've found something that works for ya!
  • I'd strongly consider getting one, but I'm pretty sure el Doggo cannot peacefully coexist with such a contraption....
  • Congrats on kicking your addiction & getting on your way to a healthier/happier you! Glad to hear you're gonna be hitting the weights too!
  • Not medical field, but Law Enforcement here. I work 12-hour rotating shifts, am a mom, wife, homeowner, and slave to a spoiled brat of a dog! I train every work day before work (and most days off, but usually my first day off of work is also a day off from the gym, meaning I lift 5-6x per week, depending on if it's my…
  • Hey momma! You've got a lot on your plate but you've got a ton of motivation and you're gonna knock it outta the park :)
  • I baked brookies (brownie/cookies - chocolate chip cookie bottom layer, double-chocolate top layer) this morning...in this pic they were still warm & goopy outta the oven :p
  • As @Retroguy2000 already said, there's nothing specific you can do for it. You cannot spot-reduce. The ONLY thing you can do is continue to lose bodyfat. You don't get to pick where the fat comes from first or last; for plenty of people, abdominal area is the last to lose (and first to gain).
  • You can't "prove" something that is entirely subjective. That said, I consistently get/maintain what I consider to be extremely solid results in terms of both aesthetics and performance, while eating "junk food" (pizza & beer night this weekend!) when the mood strikes.
  • You got this!
  • Weight gain is a POTENTIAL side effect for some forms of birth control, but as @ninerbuff says, if you're not consuming the excess calories (regardless of the reason why - whether increased appetite or reduced energy expenditure), you're not going to gain bodyfat (increased water retention could cause a bit of weight gain,…
  • I'm sure it will make a really nice doorstop. Seriously. Don't waste your money. They aren't accurate. AT BEST, they can show a general trend. But is a general trend worth anywhere near as much as you're considering spending?
  • Creatine monohydrate is creatine monohydrate; it is what it is. Worrying about a particular brand is like quibbling over a brand of salt - it's the exact same stuff, just a different label.
  • per Dr. Mel Davis of Renaissance Periodization (direct copy/paste): TEF is also calculated into modern cal/gram for macros (4/g for protein for example...without TEF consideration it would be 6/g). This along with very limited impact and relying on weight change to dictate precise diet recs means it's not something to…
  • Your best bet would be to go somewhere like a Fleet Feet where someone who is trained & knowledgeable can analyze your gait etc & make a recommendation based on that.

  • Sounds good! Also, while this isn't what I was referencing earlier, I just stumbled across this; I realize obesity may not be an issue for you, but it still may be of interest? earlier this month, James Krieger published a research review on it as well: Inflammation and metabolism: the role of adiposity in sarcopenic…
  • Very recently (within the past couple of months maybe?) Alan A. Aragon, Kevin D. Tipton, and Brad J. Schoenfeld put out a paper, "Age-related muscle anabolic resistance: inevitable or preventable?" that was, at least at the time, open-access and may be of interest to you, a pretty good dive into sarcopenia etc. If it's now…
