  • Yeah, I definitely have adrenal issues already, and I guess my blood sugar might well be making things worse. I try not to snack at night but I have been absolutely ravenous (to the point pf being painful) for the last three days and have had to break down and eat cheese at night just to stop the hunger.
  • Thanks. Ridiculously severe about sums it up. :( I did read though the thread, but I already take melatonin, magnesium and other things for sleep (chronic issue), don't drink alcohol, only one coffee prior to 9:00 a.m. and so on. A lot of the comments on that thread related to having more energy with less sleep. Must be…
  • I seem to have trouble when I overindulge in grains, so my ND has suggested a month off to see what happens. She has always recommended a low-carb diet for me, even with my Hashi's.
  • I was thinking about getting one of these. Now...maybe not so much :D
  • becwana, Most GP's are woefully undereducated when it comes to the thyroid. The vast majority of doctors will only test your TSH, which is not a thyroid hormone, is heavily influenced by stress, illness and other outside factors, and is a weak guage of actual thyroid hormone levels on its own. Additionally, the accepted…

  • I'm trying for modest weight loss, since that works best for me. Looking to do: 1425 calories 50g carbs 60g protein No grains at all 8-10 cups of water a day. Pretty basic stuff, though I have trouble usually by eating too much protein and too little fat. Those old habits die hard. I also have trouble giving up fruit, but…
  • Yes, I saw that, thanks. I have adrenal problems and am trying to balance electrolytes. I make a disgusting-tasting mix of broth and salt and Bob's Baking Soda on the advice of my N.D. for that, and I guess it fills that same role. What I need most is to stop the outrageous hunger I get at night. I do better on a…
  • Okay, now I'm set.
  • In a nutshell, yes, the muscle/joint pain can indeed be related to thyroid. Do you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis? Are you taking medication, and if so, what kind? Also, do you know the results of your last thyroid test? You may be under-medicated and the aches might be a consequence of that. I know that when my Free T3 is…
  • I hate to admit it, but my motivation is just plain old vanity. I do have health challenges -- I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and it was never properly controlled until recently. I'm also a decade post-menopausal, and though that didn't cause weight gain, it did cause intractable, severe, chronic insomnia. I was put on…

  • Ah. SO many responses. Thank you all. I thought I was losing what's left of my marbles. I might just get myself a Fitbit, though even just knowing an approximate calories expenditure is helpful. I won;t eat up to my total allowable calories on an exercise day, but I will allow myself a bit more food.
  • Wow. Such hostility. FunkyTobias and Diannethegeek, did either of you read the article about thyroid patients and artificial sweeteners? I AM a thyroid patient, and this information is quite relevant -- and the danger is very real. But hey, this is this first and last time I try to add something that might help someone…
  • Sorry for the second post. I don't see an edit button. What I meant to add is that if you actually knew what was in artificial sweeteners, and knew how they are made, you might think twice. Would you eat formaldehyde? Mmmmmm. Formaldehyde. Yum, right? No? Thought not. I stopped using anything with aspartame in it when i…
