Um... 30 and 40 is not "age." Those of you of in this group are just spring chickens. B) After menopause I started to see my weight creep up with no appreciable change in diet or exercise. I'm here to lose the pounds I gained. Obviously I need to refine my diet and my exercise regime. And also to accept that time and…

For future reference, try magnesium. I drink lots of water and take fibre, but the magnesium really makes the difference. Doses of around 600 mg daily should do the trick.

Oh wow. These all look great. We never have leftovers because I have a partner who can eat anything he wants and drink large quantities of beer and not gain an ounce. If I make enough for two meals, he eats it all. Today's lunch turned out to be 1/2 cup of pecans and half an avocado with a tablespoon of full fat yogurt and…

For adrenal fatigue, the main thing for me over the last few years has been to take himalayan pink salt in water and use holy basil and ashwaganda. They help, especially the salt and ashwaganda, but it takes time to reset everything. As for the coffee, when my adrenal problems were at their worst, I drank a cup of black…

I bought pecans to day to make pecan butter. Maybe some toasted pecans with a little bit of coconut oil thrown in.

Magnesium has never helped me with foot cramps. Perhaps that's because I have always been very deficient, but it's tough to know. It might just be an indication of overall electrolyte imbalance and not just one mineral.

I meant the mental fortitude, but also my iron always tests at the very low end of normal. I hate iron supplements. They constipate me terribly, and the requirement that they be taken four hours apart from other medications makes it nearly impossible for me to supplement iron, given how many other supplements I take. I…

So - adjusting my thyroid medication to two doses daily instead of one, plus adding in the extra T3 every other day has got me sleeping pretty well. The only thing waking me up too early now is foot cramps, so I'll adjust my salt intake a bit more.

I LOVE chais. Right now I use Level Ground's Chai, which is lovely, but these recipes here with coconut milk are pretty darned tempting.

I think I'm over the worst of the insomnia from diet, now. I make sure to have a glass of salt water before bed, and that stops the constant getting up in the night and the foot cramps. I long for more energy, but for now this will have to do. I'm also dealing with thyroid issues, so until those are resolved I'll be a bit…

Yes, it is. I actually measure it with a tablespoon because of that. But it's just got a hint of sweetness that other butters lack, and so it's perfect for an after-dinner treat, very satisfying and shuts down other cravings, so I see it as a win. Pecan butter sounds wonderful but it's not something we get here. If I could…

There is evidence to suggest that it is not great for thyroid patients, and should not be given to infants: http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/soydangers.htm

Phrick, Are you a "woman of a certain age?" I ask because severe chronic insomnia has been a companion of mine for many years, since the onset of peri-menopausal symptoms. The only thing that has ever really helped (aside from Ativan, which is lovely and dangerously addictive and to be avoided if possible) is my…

I have heard that the UK is in the Dark Ages when it comes to thyroid treatment. Many of us need additional T3 because our bodies do not convert T4 into T3. I use NDT myself and have found it to be vastly superior to the T4-ony synthetics in terms of symptom control. You could try selenomethianone, which is a form of…

If I eat carbs in the morning -- any grain carbs or fruits-- I'm starving all day. Two eggs and some bacon or ham gets me through nicely.

Oops. Posted before I meant to. As for the advice, thank you all. I do avoid all artificial sweeteners except for some stevia in my morning coffee. Aspartame cause my chronic sinus inflammation to get much worse, so I gave it up a while back. I can handle lack of sweet pretty well except for my coffee. I even sometimes put…

I do note that on my macros on the days I log (which isn't every single day) I usually hit about 60-70 grammes protein, 40-50 carbs, and about 70-80 fats. I also keep up the sodium because I'm still getting cramps without it. The good news is that although I still look like I have a couple of bowling balls on my chest, my…

Don't use TSH as a guide to thyroid health. Not only is it not a good measure (it's influenced by many things like sleep and stress levels) but also, as you have seen, there is no agreement from lab to lab as to the actual range AND also there is disagreement on TSH range from doctor to doctor. Much better to look at Free…

You know, it can be optimized for many people. I believe that, as with so many things on the Internet, it's the people who have problems that post on line -- though I have a suspicion that those with Hashimoto's don't do as well in general. My older sister, who simply has a sluggish thyroid, takes Synthroid and feels…

I suspect my T3 dose is too high when added to the Erfa Thyroid I already take. Felt quite good for a few days then went hyper one night with a racing heart and blazing heat. I'm going to alternate days to see if I can nudge my Frees to the right spot without going over, at least until I can have my blood test and talk to…

Are you not going to receive medication for hypothyroidism? I don't think iodine is enough -- and it is controversial.
-
You're right. That is far too high. Most people feel best when their TSH is between around 0.5 and 1.5, Free T4 in the upper half of the normal range, and Free T3 in the upper third of the normal range (over 75% may be too high for some).

How do I find the group? I did a search but it doesn't show up anywhere on the Group list.

toadqueen, do you know what your test numbers are, or are you just taking your doctor's word for it that your numbers are good? It you have them, post here and I'll take a look. Often doctors get this wrong, unfortunately.

Very small-boned. Aiming for 118-120

So far, so good. No hyper symptoms. In fact, quite the opposite. I feel wonderful today -- and I've slept four nights in a row. Maybe my thyroid numbers will finally be in the zone! And maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to chisel off some of this weight now.
-
I've never tried taking it at night -- too chicken. One of these days I will, though I'm sure I know what will happen. Could be wrong, though. My ND is hoping that the T3 (as well as going grain-free) will help me lost the weight that seems to be stuck on my chest and stomach. Feel like I'm carting around a couple of…

Yes, that I get. I'm not sure how "organic" is policed. Still, where we are we're lucky to be able to buy from farms that say they're organic, and the stuff is nice, so I guess that's something.

I was anorexic 45 years ago. I have to say that back in those days fat was the ultimate enemy. That was what I avoided. I could cope with eating lean protein in small amounts and I could cope with eating salad as long as there was no dressing. I had fruit sometimes. I counted calories ruthlessly. But fat? No way. The…

I don't know about that. Most commercial meat is full of antibiotics and hormones, which are not good for anyone with endocrine issues, like I have. The use of antibiotics in meat animals is banned in Europe because it contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacterial. Not a good idea. I would much rather…
