Either buy yourself a fitbit or download an app on your phone that will do it for you. Fitbit will be more accurate but if money's an issue and you've got a mobile thats also a pretty good way of tracking.

Stay below your calorie goals, start a couch to 5km program (there's a ton of apps out there that will help you, also get an app to record calorie burn if you don't have a fitness watch, probably apps out there that have both) and if it's possible try join a gym and maybe get a personal trainer if you can afford it.
