  • I essentially do that. The weight loss is slower but possible, assuming you don't go too crazy on the weekends & get in some exercise. Weekend exercise is generally more play -- swimming, tennis, etc then full on gym but it still burns calories. I had one really bad day of 3,000 calories & 2 where I was way over 2,000 but…
  • Asking for the recipe if you can't figure it out. Eat less. Guess high. If you are really concerned, eat a carrot before you go & drink a lot of water while you are there. Also chew very slowly so you eat less. Remember, it's one meal. You are not wholesale going back to your old ways. You can do this!
  • I'm one of the beginners. I have never faithfully or successfully done this. I get it wrong more than I get it right but I have managed to lose 8 pounds. I'm happy to help if I can. But the best I can probably do is cheer.
  • As everybody has explained, through a bit of trial and error you need to figure out what works for you. I like the B,L,D thing with healthy snacks in between. It allows me some flexibility for tweaking. For example, today I know I have to eat a smaller lunch because we're eating dinner out & the portion will be off. Since…
  • I wasn't sure that accurately accounted for any absorption into the chicken. Sauce on top that I added, sure but does the whole basting thing add calories? It has to but how many?
  • If you don't like bland crock pot food, add more spices. It's a simple low calorie fix. Can you walk at lunch? I take the long way round to the ladies' room when I go & park in the far reaches of the parking lot to sneak in some more movement. Do a deep knee bend or two when no one is looking. Learn about exercises you can…
  • I have cut down a lot but last night I had 2 drinks & that is why I was over on my calories. Still in deficit but over my 1200 a day allotment. Since I have been doing this there have been weekends when I indulged just like old times. The overeating which for me is grazing -- mindless chips, a bite of this, etc. -- plus…

  • My struggle is almost petty compared to many of the obstacles you all have posted about. I miss the partying. Most of my empty calories came from wine. I have cut down tremendously but some days I just want a drink after work but I know that part of my old routine has to change.
  • Ugh. My body seemed to go to pot once I hit 40. It sucks. Logging has helped. Sneaking in movement helps. Park @ the far end of the lot. Take the stairs. Do a deep knee bend when nobody is looking. And log, log, log. It's eye opening to say the least
  • The first step is wanting to change. MFP is a helpful supportive place. Now that I'm communicating with people, it really helps. Start logging. It's eye opening. Best wishes
  • Fiber One brownies. 90 calories. Tastes like a real brownie
  • I'm over more than I'm under usually by 100-200 calories. If I know why then I don't beat myself up. For example yesterday I had 2 drinks. When I otherwise thought I was being good & go over I get frustrated. I've lost 8 pounds so far so even with being over I'm in deficit more than not so I'm OK with my progress
  • Stop going near the fridge & empty it of temptation. Carrots or other crisp veggies are good.
  • It's college. There will be pressure to drink but that doesn't mean you have to give in. First, WALK to whereever you are going. Built in exercise before & after plus no danger of drinking & driving. Second, for every alcohol drink have a bottle of water after wards. Nobody will think you are weird or not playing along.…

  • Be very careful with wine. Most places give you way more then 5 oz. You think you are consuming 120 calories but it's probably closer to 200 if they give a generous pour.

  • You gained 10 pounds eating 1200 calories per day. Guess what . . .you are eating more then 1200 calories per day. I was resistant to the food scale too but snagged a good one cheap at the Sports Authority going out of business scale. I was truly shocked & somewhat horrified at how wrong I was in my approximations. Using…
  • If you like it, if it's working for you & you don't have sodium issues, go for it.
  • Thanks all. Maybe I'll try it. I'm afraid to waste money on spinach that I will just throw out.
  • Get over the idea that you can't "waste" food. Either lower your kids' portions or learn to just throw it out. Play with your kids more. Even if it's that stupid Pokémon go . . . get out there & move. Take your kids to a museum & walk around. Exercise doesn't have to formal in a gym. I shopped in a mall for 4 hours last…
  • The only thing I ever changed was when I was swimming regularly. I'd take that week off from the pool & hit the gym. I was always more cranky because I preferred swimming. I tend to change in the privacy cubicles not in front of my locker but that is about it.
  • That didn't work. When I tried to build the recipe the system did not let me measure my chicken correctly. It gave me "pieces", milliliters or fluid ounces in all of the generic chicken choices. It didn't let me pick the more accurate one I picked last night which allowed me to weigh the piece I ate. My guess last night…
  • Having now done this for almost 2 months, I have a better sense of calories. I will skimp on lunch to "save" calories for dinner. I won't just work with the calories I have left for dinner; I'll just go over but I will go for a walk after dinner so I gain back at least 100 calories. It doesn't always put me under but it…
  • What is that? Where is it? How do I use it?
  • I agree. You have huge opportunity for exercise: packing & carting boxes. Don't kid yourself. That is heavy physical work. It's one weekend. Portion some things for the car ride. Do bring your scale. It's a car ride, not a plane ride. It doesn't take up much room. Volunteer to make the meals. Your mother will appreciate…
  • Only having to shower once. I always worry what showering twice does to dry out my skin & hair. Other than that I hate early morning workouts & rarely do them.
  • The Nittany Lions! We Are. . . . (a true fellow fan will finish my sentence above)
  • Wine is my downfall too. While intellectually I understand portion control, there is part of me that seems to think 1 portion of wine = 1 bottle not a 5 - 6 oz glass. What I did to cut down: * got it out of the house; granted we drank what was there but when it was gone did not replace it * have a full glass of water…
  • Congrats on losing all that & getting under 200! What a fantastic milestone. I'm sorry about your health issues but am a bit surprised about the no exercise. I always thought at least movement helped. Isn't that part of P.T.? Maybe you can't run, swim or lift weights but I'd clarify whether you can do anything -- take a…
  • Fresh fruit.
  • My doctor sent me to a dietician in their group. The only practical thing that woman did for me was send me to MFP. She gave me a few brochures but otherwise I thought she was useless. I tried another guy who billed himself as a nutritionist & natural healer. After meeting him I googled his methodology & discovered he was…
