  • Good for you for identifying things that sabotaged you the first time around and bringing awareness to them this time! I think patience and forgiveness are definitely keys for me to getting back into the groove of health/fitness. I lost 35 pounds a couple years ago. I did it slowly and methodically over the course of a…
  • I'm new to cycling. I bought a Trek Verve 2 and have been hitting the local trails. They are paved and relatively flat, so it has been easy to get some long distance rides in. I'm not really sure how to measure calories burned, though. I do keep pedaling most of the time, and my average speed is around 12 mph, but I feel…
  • I got this from Aaron on another post: The diet that makes the most sense to me is choosing foods that allow you to eat comfortably at a modest caloric deficit while maintaining good nutrition and general satiety. The details are irrelevant and serve as nothing more than distractions or things to waste time debating on…
  • Snacks are where most of my empty calories come in. When I reign that in, I do pretty well. I have three kiddos aged 5, 7, and 9, and any time one of them wanted a snack, I'd grab a handful of whatever for myself, too. I don't do that anymore. I still have a snack, but it's a mindful one that fits into my calorie…
  • p.s. Thanks for whoever commented about the stars saving the post! It drives me crazy not being able to re-find a post I've found interesting!
  • I'll be 43 in a couple months. I joined MFP several years ago, but never really committed to logging consistently. Last June, I decided it was time. I am 5'5 and weighed 185lbs at the time. I have lost 30lbs since then and am now at 155. Ideally, I'd like to be 140-145, but that's kind of a soft goal. I'll reevaluate when…
  • I wasn't ready until I was. I had a lot of thoughts about how I "needed" to lose weight and how I "should" take better care of myself, but any attempts I made in that direction would only last a couple days before I would get derailed. What shifted for me was making small changes and not expecting big results. Even if I…
  • I have a similar mindset. Taking out the negative self talk and value placements on food has made a real difference in me not feeling deprived or having unnecessary "guilty" feelings about choices I've made. If it fits in my calorie allowance, it's all good. There are no "cheat" days, because I eat what I want within the…
  • 5'5, 42 years old, diagnosed with hypothyroid when I was 28. I am guessing I probably weighed around 135lbs when I was diagnosed. Fast forward through 14 years and the births of three children..... which got me to: SW (June 2017): 185lbs CW (today!): 155lbs GW: 140-145ish, I'm not sure. I'll see how I feel when I get…
  • Haha -- I did the same thing... I picked a number in the middle of the BMI range, because it seemed reasonable. I plan to reevaluate when I get to that point, too. If I'm still losing with what I'm doing, then why switch to maintenance just because I hit the arbitrary number I chose? I've never had such a large amount of…
  • I weigh in every morning and track it on Happy Scale. Seeing the downward trend, even when the numbers themselves seem to have a mind of their own sometimes, keeps me from getting too worked up about a single number. I do flip off the scale if it shows me one I don't like, though. ;-)
  • I just hit 15lbs to go this morning, too! It's kind of a soft goal, I'll get there when I get there. It has taken since June to lose the first 30, so I'm content to let the last chunk come off as it will. We can do it!
  • I am hypothyroid and have lost 30 pounds with CICO. My calorie allowance is 1560, and I exercise a few times a week, which gives me a couple hundred extra calories on those days. When the first 20 pounds came off, my thyroid medication was reduced. I don't follow a particular food plan other than trying to make healthier…
  • "I can and I will." I bought myself a bracelet with that saying on it when I hit my halfway mark of 20lbs lost. I'm now just shy of 30lbs down. It's my journey, I own it, I can, and I will.
  • My starting weight was 185, and I'm 5'5. My calorie allowance is 1560. I started this process in June and I have lost just shy of 30lbs. It hasn't been "fast" but it has been consistently going down, and I do average about a pound a week. On the days that I exercise (elliptical, walking, pilates or yoga), I get a couple…
