Here's my Friday update: I had high-hopes at the beginning of the week, though snacking was a bit of an issue. By mid-week I was doing great and hitting all of my goals, only to have it fall apart last night. In my defense, it was a little stressful hearing about the Israeli strikes on Iran and wondering when the response…

Thankfully, my health issues are pretty dormant right now. The biggest "diet-related" issue is gout, but I haven't had a bout in a few years, and I don't really alter my diet based on that unless I'm having an issue.

I'm up 1 pound. It was a mixed week in terms of staying on my plan. I had an outing with my old lab group early in the week (i.e., I had beer and a high-calorie meal out), then there were a few days were I was really doing well (i.e., no alcohol, minimal-to-no snacks each night), but then last night as the news of the…

Not snacking is actually a key part of my personal plan. If I eat appropriate meals, I have found that I don't starve-to-death without a snack. But more seriously, it's very rare that I even want to snack in-between meals during the day. However, after dinner is much more challenging for me. I'm sure a part of it is my…

I don't have "binges" per se, but I do have times where my intake is more than I want (i.e., it's not in-line with my plan), and those cycles can last for weeks or months. They are very hard to break, because I think the longer I am in that cycle, the more it transforms into a habit and gets increasingly difficult to stop.…

Here's my Friday update: It was a pretty good fail of a week. I did not hit my goals to limit snacking and alcohol. The only thing I did sort-of well in is hitting my exercise goal, so I'll give myself 1 point this week. I'm going to stick with the same three goals: Limit alcohol to Friday night through Saturday night,…

I am down 0.2 pounds, but the reality is that I was up by a couple of pounds all week and really did not follow my plan very well, so I think I "deserve" a gain and not a loss. In my defense, or as a matter of excuse, we had the holiday of Shavuot this week which includes traditions like eating cheesecake and other dairy…

Yes, I also am having the same problem.

I think there's a big psychology thing for me: I felt very down on myself when I was heavy. I felt much better about myself when I felt that I had my weight under control. I never want to go back to where I started, but I find that the same psychology tends to play when I'm significantly above my personal target weight…

OK, here it goes! My three goals are: Limit alcohol to Friday night through Saturday night, with exceptions for going out to events or get-togethers Cut out snacking on the couch while watching TV (no-calorie drinks are allowed) Run Sunday-Friday, rainy days excepted

I'm down 1 pound. That's not really a victory, but just regular fluctuations, as I haven't gotten my head back into the game. I keep saying that I'll get re-engaged after our house goes up on the market, which is probably going to be next Thursday, so hopefully I can leverage that moment to get back on my plan (though it…

I love the idea. The only concern, for me, is that my goals are likely to be the same ones each week (which are really my standard "everyday" goals). I know that if I can execute on those goals, I will be in a better place. Maybe it's not a bad thing to "fess-up" about how I am not hitting my personal goals every week?

I don't really pay that much attention to food labels, but simply try to recognize that it's better to eat fresh/raw/unprocessed foods than junk and ultra-processed foods. I am pleased by the attempt to cut down on the variety of chemicals and dyes that are in our foods. Conversely, I am a fan of GMOs (being a molecular…

I'm up 2 pounds. Just struggling with eating and drinking too much as a means of "relaxation." It is pandemonium at our house with all of the preparations for the move and all of the workers here getting everything fix, painted, cleaned, etc., in anticipation for going on the market next week. That, of course, is simply…

1) What is the most important thing you've learned about yourself through pursuing weight loss and a healthier lifestyle? I learned that I am in control of the things I am in control of (yes, I know that sounds stupid). To expound a bit, I learned that being overweight is not my "fate," even though that's how I felt for a…
