  • Good morning BBB friends. OK, I posted earlier, and it has disappeared. Can't imagine what I might have said that triggered the AI reviewers. I took a really steep, tough hike, yesterday, to a spectacularly beautiful place in Mt. Rainier N.P. I will refrain from describing the hike, for fear of hitting another trip wire.
  • Good morning gentlemen. We're expecting 88 degrees, today. That's hot, for this neck of the woods. I plan to mow the lawn this morning. Tiring hike, yesterday. Really steep - more than 3,000 feet of climbing in about 3 miles of the trail. Hard on the legs going up and coming down. Still feeling it this morning. Worth it,…
  • Good morning BBB friends. Somehow, I didn't check in yesterday. Sorry about that. I'm getting ready to head out for another hike in Mt. Rainier N.P. Tough, steep trail, which should keep the crowds away. Only downside is that this is peak mosquito season in the mountains. That's how you pay for the beautiful meadows and…
  • Good morning gentlemen. Getting ready for another hiking adventure. This time another favorite trail in Mt. Rainier N.P. This one is steep and in the trees much of the way, which keeps the crowds away, then breaks open to glorious views and meadows. Sassy did well at her appointment. She likes her vet, but not the office.…
  • Good morning gentlemen. Bill, you show your California roots by writing the 101. Those of us who grew up in the PNW would just write 101. Highway designations never take a the, for us. Sassy has an 8:30 appointment for her well-dog checkup and shots. I need to take her out for an early walk to get a fecal sample. Such fun.…
  • Good morning BBB friends. Well, here in God's country, it will be 76 and sunny, with low humidity, today. Sorry, guys. That's our normal summer weather. Church this morning, then we'll run a few errands. I'm actually sorry to read Judge is on the injured list - though anything bad for the Yankees generally makes me grin.…
  • Good morning gentlemen. It's 47 degrees right now, in Tumwater, Lee, heading for a high of 76. You're welcome to come visit any time. The last of the camping stuff was put away, yesterday. Now we start looking at the road trip we are taking with the grandkids in a week.
  • Bob, the Bailey Range Traverse is way beyond me, these days. That's a multi-day, cross country scramble, including several glaciers. My hat's off to those completing it. I manage some difficult (for a 75-year old) day hikes but my cross-country, off-trail days are 50 years in my rear-view mirror.
  • Good morning BBB friends. I'll bet Skip posted something, but it got lost. Rolled up the tent and tarp we used camping - along with mowing the lawn and washing both car and truck. Today I'll put the camping cases back into storage. Our next expedition will be in hotels.
  • Good morning gentlemen. Hang in there Steve. Busy day, yesterday. I washed the car and the truck, mowed the lawn and packet up the tent and tarp from camping. We had Japanese takeout for supper. We'll finish packing away all the camping stuff, today.
  • Good morning BBB friends. I missed checking in, yesterday. Sorry about that. We were lazing around camp, then packing up and getting home. Had to give Sassy a bath, first thing. Today, I'll be cleaning and packing equipment away, then mowing the lawn. Need to wash the car and the truck, too. Lots to get to.
  • Good morning gentlemen. I missed checking in yesterday. That almost never happens. Glad to read all seems well with my Men's Health friends. Good news on your truck, Steve. We packed up and came home from the campground after the young crowd left. Sassy was happy to get home and get a bath. She enjoys getting dirty, I…
  • Good afternoon BBB friends. Been too relaxed to think about checking in. Sitting here watching the breeze in the tops of the fir trees. Some of the are probably 200+ feet tall. Very PNW.
  • good afternoon gentlemen. Late check in for me today. Sitting next to the campfire and watching the breeze in the tall firs around us. Very restful. It’s supposed to be 85 here this afternoon. I’ll sit in the shade and read a book. Everyone else will be in the lake. Not my thing.
  • Good morning BBB friends. Set up camp, then came home for the night. The park is beautiful and peaceful - and six miles from our house. A high percentage of those camping there are also locals. We'll be out there today through Friday. You're tiring me out, Skip. Hope this pace isn't a permanent thing.
  • Good morning gentlemen. We checked in to the campground yesterday, set up our tent and sleeping arrangements, then came home. DS and family couldn't get there until today, so Rita and I decided to just stay in comfort one more night. The park is only six miles from our house. Interestingly, many others in the campground…
  • Good morning BBB friends. Loading up for our camping expedition. This is once again at a nearby state park. We might actually come home for the night after setting up camp. DS and family aren't joining us until tomorrow, anyway, and the whole point it to spend time with the grandkids. Glad you're feeling better, Steph.
  • Good morning gentlemen. Loading up for another week camping at a nearby state park.
  • Good morning BBB friends. Haad fun shooting with DS, yesterday. Inexperience with larger caliber rifle and telescopic sights led me to catch the scope hard into the bridge of my nose, though. Made me feel pretty foolish - and it still hurts this morning. Hey, my rifle shooting was all with M-16s - iron sights and no…
  • Good morning gentlemen. Enjoyed shooting with DS, yesterday, though a bit dismayed by how I shot. I used to be pretty good, but am not as steady at 75 as I was 40 years ago. I also had an unfortunate experience firing their 30-06 rifle. I spent my career firing M-16s, which have no recoil. The 30-06 has a pretty good kick.…
  • Good morning BBB friends. I don't have a "smart" watch to track such things but expect my sleep history is about the same, Skip. Going shooting with DS this morning, out in a state forest. I made a target stand out of scrap. I haven't pulled a trigger in years. Should be fun.
  • Good morning gentlemen. Another perfect day in the PNW. High around 70 degrees and partly cloudy this afternoon. DS is taking us out to a place in a state forest where they like to shoot at targets. Should be fun. I haven't pulled a trigger in more than 20 years. I was pretty good, back in the day. Don't expect much now.
  • Good morning BBB friends. Cooler here, today, too: 68 and partly cloudy. I need to clean the back of my shop, this morning and the cool will be nice while working in the dust. I haven't commented on how nice it is to hear about Joanne's improvement. We're camping again, next week, and have prep to get done. I am sure the…
  • Good morning gentlemen. Much cooler today, after several days in the 90s and high 80s. Looking at 68. I have a lot of cleaning up to do in my shop, and we have errands to run. Always bittersweet when you get rid of old companions like your inflatable, Lee. Looking ahead to your Colorado fishing, you should read the books…
  • Good morning BBB friends. Glad Cal won the Homerun Derby. Had no interest in the game. The Allstar Game stopped being interesting when interleague games went on the schedule. In other words, I am just an old grump.
  • Good morning gentlemen. Hope all goes well, Mike. Sorry about your truck, Steve. We'll be about 10 degrees cooler today, and I had to repair a tear in the Slip 'N Slide, so no water fun today. The kids need to be picked up midafternoon, anyway, to go to some event with their folks.
  • Good morning BBB friends. We have the grandkids for a couple days, and it is going to be hot = the Slip 'N Slide will be in action this afternoon. Going to be in the low 90s.
  • Good morning gentlemen. The grandkids came over yesterday and will be with us through tonight. That is always fun, but tough on my waistline. Their Lola wants to make sure they get all their favorites, both at home and eating out. To be honest, I do too. Denney's last night, a local sushi place tonight, waffles and who…
  • Good morning BBB friends. Had a wonderful hike yesterday, this time in Mt. Rainier N.P. I'll leave Skip one of those coffee table worthy photos. The fact is, I am not a great photographer, I just visit great places. This is the aptly named Emerald Ridge, looking up at the big mountain. Took some work getting there: 16.1…
  • Good morning gentlemen. Had a great hike yesterday. Started up a closed road for a few miles, then climbed through pretty forest, next to a glacial river, with towering cliffs across the canyon, finally up through beautiful meadows above timberline. A rugged climb with a fantastic payoff. Covered 16.1 miles, with 3,493…
