  • Someone I met who follows this WOE calls fat bombs "Power Poppers". She tells people who ask that it is a healthy "energy pick me up". That sounds a lot better to me than trying to explain what a fat bomb is.
  • Aww, a hot rodding dog! @Rowdyslady, I don't think Archer will end his wandering ways. It is a Pyr trait, of course. If he hasn't bonded with his herd, he is likely to keep wandering. I'm sure you know that they are known to go for miles and miles when wandering. Daisy is a hussy, too, BTW. Her "sweet baboo" lives kitty…
  • I also came across an article (you'd think I would at least have bookmarked it, duh) and it noted that over time, statins damage liver cells and thus the liver makes less cholesterol. I can't be more specific though since I didn't mark it. :'(
  • Okay, goals for November: Staying under carbs (5%) Staying under calories (1300) Logging and measuring daily Getting in electrolyte salt (50:50 regular and lite salt) Take daily supplements Planning tomorrow's meals tonight. Starting Goal 204.5 Dec. 1 goal 199.5 (Onederland !!!)
  • I've always had issues as an adult with low potassium so take daily supplements. However, daily sodium supplementation is what keeps my foot and leg cramps at bay. A side note is that PPI's leach potassium out of our system (would have to look up the mechanism). If you have muscle cramps and use PPI med, magnesium…
  • I googled it, but it just looks like a preplanned diet. To me, that's a lot of money just to have someone else tell me what to eat. Are you having difficulty following your meal plan? Or are you perhaps not preplanning your day's meals? I do this the night before so I know I have the foods I need in the house. If you are…
  • I've been MIA for a few days. Back in action. What beautiful pet stories and pics, too. I'm definitely a big dog person and my current sweet Daisy (aka Miss Daisy; Miss Pushy, Pushy, Bossy; Sweet Girl, Bruce (actually what we think she calls herself, lol), Miss Naughty Dog (her personal favorite), is likely my last giant…
  • I can read it for free on Kindle so just downloaded it. Will post in a couple of days what I think. No, I'm not a slow reader, lol. Most of today I am gone and part of tomorrow. I should get through enough chapters to have a fair idea (I hope). B)
  • Making sure I get a daily tsp of salt makes a difference. This is a low residue diet, so frequency and volume are less than on high carb.
  • My fbs will jump due to stress. If I have an argument with DH, it will be at least 20 points higher the next day even we resolved what we disagreed about. Exercise makes it jump, too. I've not tested it against pain and do have some chronic pain, but will do so next time I have new pain (like upcoming surgery). On the flip…
  • Thanks @bametals. She's beautiful and she knows it (and gets waayy too much attention anywhere we go). She has been an ambassador of the breed at various pet conventions, though that ended when I lost most of my vision. We have a champion Great Dane in our neighborhood. On their walks, these two woof out their respective…
  • Welcome @Bayluvr. Congrats on your weight loss successes. This is a great place to come for support and information. I also eat under 5% carbs (16g currently) and it helps with the cravings a lot. There is a thread on recipes you can check out for help in meal planning. I go through it as I have time and copy the ones I…
  • Here's my favorite Pyrenees. So lucky she adopted us! Daisy in the daisies! Snuggle time!
  • @Midwesterner, interesting. I'll have to do some research in the literature to see what I can find. The way that A1c is reported hasn't changed in all these years, however. Perhaps regarding the discussion about Dr. Bernstein's correlation of A1c with fbs averages being higher than the more common schedule has something to…
  • Welcome to our board. Yes, people are so helpful here.
  • It's like they are saying that the starch in these foods is converted into fiber-like substance. From a biochemistry POV, that just isn't possible.
  • Where did you get that fact? As a med tech (clinical laboratory scientist), hematology maintains RBCs live about 100 to 120 days in the circulation. Once glucose gloms on to the RBC, it doesn't let go giving an average over those past months for the A1c. I'm medically retired now, but is there something new here I've…
  • Thanks. I'm getting some good ideas for the potluck and also for my recipe box. :)
  • Yes, I do. I am considering purchasing a breath ketone analyzer in the future, although cost is prohibitive at this time. Checking helps me stay honest.
  • You are blessed.
  • From the American Heart Association Oct 7, 2015 - Small amounts of trans fats occur naturally in some meat and dairy products, including beef, lamb and butterfat. There have not been sufficient studies to determine whether these naturally occurring trans fats have the same bad effects on cholesterol levels as trans fats…
  • A friend's neurologist, who put my friend's DH on a ketogenic diet due to Alzheimer's, also has his own dog on a ketogenic diet which includes coconut oil. This is for a large German Shepherd. On the snappiness note, I had a golden mix who developed arthritis as he aged. He reached a point when, if someone other than my H…
  • There is so much good advice here along with experience. The only thing I can add is that I have noticed that when I start eating carbs - for any reason - there is never a point of "enough". It's like searching for a place where I've finally had enough and can quit looking for more but it never comes. I just want more and…
  • Fabulous!!
  • Thanks for the nutritional info @canadjineh. I take zinc 30 mg a day in a soft gel. The tablets upset my stomach so I avoid any tablet or pill form supplement. I use it for hair loss. I used to have a glorious thick head of hair but kept losing, losing, losing it. My grandmother was nearly bald by my age and I had accepted…
  • Yeah, that!
  • I'm going to make that.
  • Thanks everyone for positive energy, good thoughts, hugs and prayers. I'm absorbing them all. Okay, so after reading everyone's suggestions, I've decided first off not to beat myself up over this. "Kitten" happens. I've dealt with "kitten" before. Also, have upped my fat and protein %'s and total calories at 300 more but…
