I'm also a lot colder when I'm reducing calories and losing weight. I was just telling my husband recently that I wasn't so cold this winter, and it was probably because of my extra layer of fat. In the last couple of weeks I've been eating at a deficit and losing some weight, and now I'm freezing! And I live in the south!…

This is my 5th round of losing regained weight! I've pretty much used the same method to lose weight--log calories and increase exercise. At some point I discovered intermittent fasting, and that helped as well. The last go-around, I discovered mfp and lost 18 lbs. I enjoyed using the app, increased my exercise sensibly,…

Definitely for me, calorically- and financially-speaking!! I work from home, and can hardly find time to get work and everything around the house done. So I don't think I can find extra time to do chores less efficiently, and I tend to not park too far out due to time and always being in a hurry. What I found works for me…

I've found this to be true for me as well! I also seem to get night sweats, which is either from losing weight, exercise, or both. When it happened last weight-loss go-around, I thought it was perimenopause, but it stopped when I began eating more and gaining weight back (over about a 7-month period). Now I'm back to…

I often have a drink or two (wine or beer) after dinner with hubby when the kids are in bed. I fell into the bad habit of eating more with those drinks, too, adding to the calorie load and resulting weight gain. I just began (again!) logging and losing weight about two weeks ago. I've found that I can pre-log and plan for…

I've had this problem too, as well as with other nut or seed butters. Now I just don't really buy them much, or buy the types I don't like, that my kids will still eat (I like the natural peanut butter, they don't care either way). It's just so calorie dense, that I'd rather use my calories elsewhere. Sometimes I might…

I also skip breakfast or have a very small amount, and save my calories for later in the day. Dinner is when we all sit down together to eat as a family, so it's usually my biggest meal. I usually end up having an alcoholic beverage and a small snack late in the evening as well. As long as I'm within my calorie goal, I…

There are machines that are like an exercise bike except for your arms. I'm sure that's a great work out, although I've never tried one. With your knee injury, is it at all possible to do pool exercises? If you search online for "upper body workout knee injury", you might find something you can do while in a chair or on a…

I'm 5'6", age 44. A little over a year ago I had gotten down to 135 and looked and felt pretty good. My goal during that weight loss phase was 122, but that might be too low for me. I ended up losing my momentum and gained back all the weight I had lost (sigh). Back at it now, currently at 157, and my goal is to be back at…

I have a walking treadmill desk for my home office, so I get a lot of steps in on that. I usually do at least an hour at a time, sometimes two or 2 1/2 hours. I'm only going about 2 miles an hour, though, while I'm working. It's a great way to multitask, and not sit on my rear while I work! I really wish I could have one…

Also, the shortest period of time is 6 months. What happens if this business goes under during that time? Or you get injured/sick, have a family emergency that drastically changes your lifestyle, etc? It's not worth the risk to me.

I just went to the site and entered my stats and potential weight loss in a sensible amount of time (losing 25 lbs in 7 months), and my net earnings would be $57. That alone would not be a big motivator, but I guess trying to earn back what I already had put in would be more so ($175). I wonder how others are earning so…

I have found that for me, having more sugar in a day does affect how easily I can stick to my calorie goal. For instance, I typically don't eat breakfast, instead having coffee with a square or two of dark chocolate. I've noticed that if I have no chocolate or very dark chocolate (so low sugar), and limit the sugar in my…

For me, there are several reasons, but probably the main one is I see my dad and stepmom in their 60s, in great shape, doing half marathons and hiking in the Rockies. I want to be able to do that at their age as well. Beginning last July, I started losing weight, and got about 10 pounds from goal weight. My husband and I…

Thanks everyone--it's probably a combination of all of this to some degree. I forgot about NEAT calorie expenditure going up with more higher intake. I've experienced that myself. Ok, so I feel better now about not jumping on the low-carb bandwagon. I feel sure it's not sustainable for me. My husband is from Italy, and…

Ac Actually, I misquoted him. I think what he said is that he used to believe weight loss is all about calories, but now he doesn't believe that so much.

Well that's what I thought could be happening--that she was just overzealous about her new way of eating, and initial water loss, and that she had a bias towards the benefits and results of low-carb. But she and her husband are both pretty educated and informed. She's used MFP off and on for quite a while. He told me he…

Thanks for your replies! I guess it just seems strange that she would be counting "1200 calories" incorrectly, and then when doing low-carb, she's suddenly counting correctly (2000 calories). Or the opposite--was correctly counting 1200, then suddenly overestimating at 2000 while low carb. It just doesn't make sense. We…

How could I forget movie theater popcorn?? With extra butter!

We are Taco Bell eaters! We just skip the meat, but I love the bean burritos and bean crunchy tacos. Also on my list of wish-it-had-fewer-calories, less sugar, and/or no trans fat: Snickers, Milky Way Dark, pizza, guacamole, cinnamon rolls, pancakes with LOTS of butter, ooey gooey chocolate chip cookies, butter on all the…

In my experience, the vitamin B complex I started taking gave me a raging appetite. I read about others with the same experience. I stopped taking them and my appetite went back to normal. That was an over the counter vitamin in pill form, though. I don't know about the injections.

Oh no! I was thinking I would get out and buy some of those! Protein Snickers sounds like something I need in my life! Sigh, maybe they will make it to the US soon.

I just have to jump in late to this party to say that "clotted cream" sounds like something oozing from a festering wound. On the other hand, I do love scones, at least the ones they sell here in the US. Nothing goes on it for me, though, but they go well with coffee. Funny, I was just yesterday googling "why the British…

We don't generally eat a lot when backpacking. I don't eat breakfast, but maybe protein bars? For snacks--trail mix (light on the nuts), bars, apple or dried fruit. Dinner--freeze-dried meal ($$$) or Ramen noodles ($).

OP here--thanks for all of your replies! It sounds like something I won't love, but I am curious. Maybe I'll buy one carton and just try it for the heck of it. But I don't like the idea that it has directions, lol. I figured there were some quiet Halo Top haters out there  Maybe our Canadian friends who can't get it…

Oooh, I'll have to look for that one! Samoas are my all-time favorite cookie!

I just wanted to add that if you're that exhausted and trying to still get to the gym, I would say skip that workout and eat 200-300 less calories for that day or the next. Not eating those calories takes a lot less of your time!

I side with more sleep, and fitting my workout into my usual awake hours if I can. If I can't, I need to just eat less. As a work-at-home mom of 3, I've had to figure out ways to fit in the workouts, which pretty much means doing them at home. We have a treadmill for running and another for walking (my treadmill desk for…
