Here in Michigan we are encouraged to have emergency provisions in case of blizzards or heavy snow storms. When we lived in Kansas and Iowa, we prepped for tornado season and then blizzards. In Colorado, it was the spring blizzards that would leave us stranded without power as well as the occasional tornado. In Oregon, it…

Take care of yourself! Both of my boys have had pneumonia, and it left them exhausted for a long time after they were technically well.

I've seen my priorities shift over the years. Right now, these three are pretty intertwined. I've realized that my mental wellness is closely tied to being active and to feeling in control of my weight. If either of those two things are absent, depression sets in. My definition of physical fitness has changed. Even at my…

I try to keep LTL simple by limiting the number of food decisions I need to make each day through advance planning. Over the weekend, I decide what I am going to have for my week day breakfasts and lunches, and then I have that same thing each work day. I prep for the work week and have my breakfasts and lunches in the…

Turned out the lights, heading to bed. I'm tired, not hungry.

It was a surprise to me to realize a few months ago that I was not living the lifestyle. I said I was, and I thought I was, but I was not backing up my words and thoughts with my actions. Even though I was eating foods that I liked, I was “dieting” (measuring, tracking, calculating points) from breakfast until after…

Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. There is practically no work involved on my part and I thoroughly enjoy seeing the kids and their costumes, and the parents and pets that accompany them. I even enjoy the older kids that come by later in the evening! I buy lots of candy, give as much out as possible, eat some…

I have been less than truthful to myself about my desire to lose weight. I say I want to lose weight, but am I really willing to do what I know I need to do to make the desire a reality?

It depends on my work load on a given day. I don't always have time to write a reply when I first read a question. Must be a slow thinker! :)

1) My WW meeting friends and leader - who hold me accountable. 2) My doctor - who continues to encourage me, and shows me hard evidence (labs) of the progress I am making.

As part of my somewhat tardy acceptance of “for a lifetime,” I’ve been thinking about what makes a food “worth it.” Sometimes it is being able to eat a particular item in a quantity that satisfies (baby carrots, cut up fruit). At other times, I am judging a food by its flavor. Real mozzarella and real parmesan cheese make…

Kitchen is closed here, too.

If not, why do you think it hasn't happened to you? I think it hasn't happened because I am either OP and thinking about everything I am eating, or not OP and not wanting to think at all about what I am eating.

I have to weigh and measure at home. My portion radar is way off. When I'm eating out, I assume that the portion on my plate is at least two servings. At a buffet I use the island technique - make sure the food on my plate looks like islands, not one huge continent.

I don't know if they are critical to my success, but two things I use frequently and appreciate are my digital scale and the bar code scanner in the WW app on my phone.

Let us know if they are "worth it," Cindy!
