What kinds of activities are you doing outside of weight lifting? Is it your upper or lower back that is bothering you? If it's the lower back, it could be one of several things. When my yoga students complain to me about lower back pain, I tend to think one of three things: 1) lack of core strength, 2) a tight psoas, or…

I don't think it tracks unprocessed vs. processed sugars differently. I second @janejellyroll in that unless you have a medical need to limit your sugar, there's no real need to worry about it. I was just having this discussion with one of my girlfriends this morning - people have gotten so worked up about sugar lately…

The more body weight you carry, the higher caloric requirement you have to sustain life (makes sense, right? If you have more stuff, you have to consume more to nourish that stuff). Plugging your stats into a BMR (basal metabolic rate = the amount of calories your body requires to sustain normal metabolic processes,…

Buy real food, a good protein powder, and make your own smoothies! Save time, save money, and know exactly what's going in to your food. Also, don't rely on smoothies to replace your meals as a weight-loss tool. Smoothies are great to get extra greens, fiber, and nutrients, but one for breakfast here and there is plenty.…

My favorite is overnight oats: 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk 1 T maple syrup 2 T peanut butter 3/4 T chia seeds 1/2 cup old fashioned oats Mix everything together, lightly patting down oats with the back of a spoon to ensure all are submerged (without packing them down) and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, toss in…

Thanks cwolfman! I found that link and looked through the beginner ones. I think I'm going to go with the Stronglifts 5x5 to start out with. Already downloaded the app and am looking forward to getting started. Thanks for taking the time :)

Congrats on the new start to your journey! You've found a place where you'll be loved and accepted every step of the way - best of luck to you!

Those are the types of things I'm asking about. I don't really know where to start, so I'm looking for help from those who have been in the game for a while now. As far as limiting to upper body - that's just where I want to start. I do TONS of leg strengthening through yoga, so I feel (maybe mistakenly?) that I don't…

What worked really well for me was slowly adding calories back in. I would add 100 calories every 10 days until I noticed the scale staying within my chosen range. I didn't do it until I hit my target goal (140 lbs), but that's only because the range I wanted to be in was either at or below (~137-140lbs). That worked…

Vegan for over two years now and loving it! Feel free to add me!

So you've been in his life for 8 years, but now that he's suddenly a PT and he's surrounded by fit women, you're not good enough anymore? Peace out, bro. I wouldn't be able to walk away fast enough. Look at your profile picture. You are gorgeous. Big beautiful eyes, gorgeous hair, adorable smile. Girl. If he's not proud to…

A huge way to save money in the long run is to make things yourself! It will cost a little more upfront so that you can stock your pantry, but once you have things on hand, making your own sauces, salad dressing, condiments, etc. saves so much money and only takes a few minutes!

There's a brand of teas called Yogi Tea and they have a detox one - but it's not "detox" like you would think in terms of a diet, where it has laxative effects. Instead, it has herbs that help support healthy liver and kidney function (your body's natural detoxifying system). We drink it in my house quite often. That's…

I am a power vinyasa yogi (and teacher)! Truly the best thing that has ever happened to me :)

Minimalist Baker is my go-to place for recipes. Everything is simple to make and I've never tried a recipe that hasn't been absolutely phenomenal!

I should add that high blood pressure runs in my family. Last time I went to the doctor, between my blood pressure and heart rate, the NP asked, "Are you an athlete?" I don't recall what my blood pressure was, but my heart rate (this appointment was at 2:30 pm) was 62 bpm. My family also has congenital high cholesterol. As…

Vegan here! I'd love more vegan friends

Yay! Yes, yoga is my jammmm! I've been teaching now for just over a year. I used to list it as cardio, because, as I'm sure you know, vinyasa gets your heart going! Now I just go by TDEE and don't log any of my exercise calories. I started doing that because I was using yoga as a work out, and I made it part of my new…

Yes! Early morning workouts are my favorite for so many reasons. I practice yoga daily, and early in the morning is the best time to practice for a variety of reasons. What makes it easier for me is setting out my clothes and packing my bag the night before. Not only does it serve as a visual accountability, but it also…

28, female, vegan, and I've lost 15 pounds and am in maintenance. Feel free to add me!

Welcome! Friend request sent - I look forward to following your journey! Best of luck!

I'm in maintenance right now, but happy to be of support!

I'm vegan, too, and I find that my protein is always hardest to get as well. I don't focus on macros as much, rather just the total number of calories. What I eat makes me feel good, and despite only getting about half of the amount of protein recommended by MFP, I've still put on muscle. My best friend is a dietitian (and…

You got this! I am currently maintaining at 140. Feel free to add me!

Welcome back! The same thing happened to me - we are human! I lost 45 lbs back in 2013 and put about 15 of them back on between June 2015 and July 2016. I caught it and shed it back off by September 2016. You can do this! The good thing is that you've done it before and know what to expect! Good luck, feel free to add me…

I'm 5'8" and met my 13.2lb loss goal after 50 days (~1.5 lbs per week) with a goal of 1,580 calories. I slowly worked my way up to maintenance calories, which for me is 2,100 and have been maintaining successfully ever since. Best of luck to you!

Hi there! I'm originally from Madison, WI but currently live in Kalamazoo, MI!

I follow a plant-based diet, which (thankfully!) naturally keeps my hand out of the cookie jar. However, I totally plan to bake myself some tasty treats for a little Christmas indulgence (vegan pecan pie bars, vegan hot buttered rum, etc.), but then it's back to logging and mindful eating! My family plans to eat lasagna on…

I went on a 21-day vegan challenge starting on October 1, 2014 and have been vegan ever since! Best of luck on your journey. And feel free to add me as a friend! Also - you might as well make minimalistbaker.com your homepage because her recipes are the bomb. I've never made one that hasn't been absolutely phenomenal! Xoxo
