  • @nakedraygun Question about that TDEE method, since I'm almost at my goal weight and plan on transitioning to recomp using my TDEE... Since I finish the majority of my WOD's in 15-25 minutes, when I calculate the amount of exercise I do, should I only count the time in my WOD's, or should I add in the other 20 minutes I…
  • If you've never listened to the FIRST 'Serial', do that before anything else. It's awesome. I personally listen to a lot of True Crime podcasts, documentaries/narrative non-fiction type stuff. -'Criminal' is well produced and not heavy at all; short listening times, almost always nothing too gory or messed up; often very…
  • Concept 2. I've used two others, both at hotel gyms and they were terrible. They forced me into awkward rowing motions that put way too much strain on my back. But maybe it was because I learned how on a Concept 2 so I was trying to make those machines work the same. But yeah, what @Duck_Puddle said, check out a gym with…
  • @Morgaen73 From May to July 3 days a week, now... I take 4 classes a week, and do two open gyms on weekends, where I work on two lifts/gymnastic movements each day followed by a 30ish minute EMOM. Here's an example of last Saturdays Open Gym: 3-3-3-3-3 Overhead Squat 4 Sets Max Ring Dips EMOM 28: 1- 2x Bear Complex @115 2-…
  • @johnny_19 Congrats Man! So glad to hear it. As for results, if you're concerned about the scale, don't be discouraged. For the first 5 weeks I didn't lose more than about 3 or 4 pounds, but my clothes started to fit better. But around Week 6, the weight started falling off in chunks. I started in mid-May at 194 lbs. I…
  • Best decision I ever made too
  • @boredloser Well, Boston is nothing like Orlando. I've spent some time there, went to college in Florida, and I really like downtown Orlando, but you can't honestly compare the two. - I took the liberty of checking public transportation for you, and you are in luck! The 238 bus stops about 100 yards from your hotel, on…
  • Braintree is on the 'Red Line' of the subway, so you're in luck, because I'm on the redline in Southie. Foodies is an upscale grocery store that is in Southie (South Boston) that has a healthy focus to it. Head 'inbound' to the Broadway stop, walk up broadway 5 blocks to E street, it's on the Left side of the street.…
  • @AnnPT77 Crossfit. Some Crossfit metabolic conditioning WOD's will have a set calorie row as one of the movements. In the recent Crossfit games, one of the WODs had a 40 calorie row in the middle of it.
  • @johnny_19 When I restarted, I went for three days a week, and in between days I did some active recovery stuff. A lot of walking, mobility work, foam rolling. I think for most people that start, 3 days will be enough for the first 6 weeks to get used to the intensity and allow for good recovery. In fact , you might want…
  • Second time at Crossfit here. I was a member for two years back in 2011-12, then came up with some life excuses, had a kid, let it slide. Been back at it for 4 months now and hating myself for having left. Love everything about it. I absolutely hate doing traditional cardio, and I get bored at the gym. I love competitive…
  • I cook the majority of my dinners using Hello Fresh and Home Chef, for a couple reasons: - I live in South Boston, groceries are super expensive. Saves money. Saves time. - I love to cook, but when I make something it's difficult to buy the stuff for just two people, and then Portion control is an issue, and I eat the…
  • Here's an example: Run 800 m Then 3 Rounds of 5 minutes of work with 1 minute of rest in between rounds: - 6 Push-up - 9 Burpees - 12 Pistols Then Run 800 m Should take you around 25 mins
  • If this happens occasionally, I would follow @rheddmobile advice. If this happens more nights than not, you may have something called Night Eating Syndrome, which is a bona fide eating disorder and qualified in the DSM-5. It is not the same as Binge Eating Disorder. NES is not characterized by hunger specifically, but…
  • Not good at quoting, so hopefully the person who asked is still reading. Contrave is a combo of Wellbutrin and Naltrexone. Wellbutrin, unlike most mainline antidepressants, is not an SSRI. In fact, Wellbutrin is usually prescribed as an alternative to people who gain weight on other antidepressants. It has also been used…
  • I'll only speak to what works for me: As far back as junior high I have always been a late night eater. After school sports, working parents, etc. I grew up that way, I got used to it. Never was an issue for my weight until my lifestyle became more sedentary in my late twenties. When I started to try to lose weight, I was…
  • Yeah. Couple things that worked for me. Keep your back straight, chin up, and on the return stroke start sending your hands back first while your legs are still mostly locked out. I've only been rowing for a few months though, I'm sure more experienced rowers may expand on or contradict. But these have all helped me. EDIT:…
  • I'll only speak to what works for me: I literally eat around 1/5 of my daily calories within 1 hour before bed, sometimes in bed. I plan my meals that way. I tried eating small meals throughout the day, eating dinner later, yada yada. Still needed to eat late. I was concerned at first because I had heard so much about not…
  • Again, Thanks to everyone. Row is posted in the WOD tomorrow.
  • Thanks very much everyone, I appreciate all the help. Be well.
  • I literally save about 400 calories for right before bed. Still losing weight.
  • For me personally, I just tried to stay away from 'added sugar' items, because those were the foods that I binged on. I still eat fruit and 40+% of my diet is made up of carbs. Sugar is not my enemy, but eating a whole bag of Reese's peanut butter cups in bed is. I don't find myself waking up with strawberry tops on my…
  • Lots of CrossFitters on here! As my colleagues above have said, lotta variables as the WODs are, by definition, are constantly varied. What I've seen people do is assign a calorie ratio per minute of a WOD. I keep mine super conservative and just assign 1 calorie per minute, so a 20 minute WOD is just 20 calories. A heads…
  • You might have better luck using a softball or lacrosse ball for problem spots. I tend to get them in my hamstrings so I sit on a plyo box with a softball between my leg and the top of the box and use my body weight to apply steady pressure. Its not pleasant, but after a few minutes you absolutely feel the difference. I…
  • @Gloriam_Sanguinis I was pretty proud of Iceland after the Euro Cup last year. Was rooting for you guys since Holland was out of form. Saw a news report that said that Iceland is experiencing a mini baby boom 9 months after the tournament!
  • That Chipper was crazy... 100 pull-ups. 80 GHD sit-ups. 60 pistols. 40 cal row 20 single arm 100 pound DB push press. Winning time was 10:46. 10:46!!!! That is absolutely crazy.
  • What CJ said. It's not impossible, but it's really difficult and tedious to figure out. Some WODs are heavy on gymnastics, some heavy on oly lifts. Some are AMRAP, some are for time, and others TABATA. By definition Crossfit wods are constantly varied, and with the exception of benchmarks and heros, should not repeat…
  • I've been watching the highlights at night. Too busy during the day. CBS sports network runs a 1 hour recap at 10 pm est
  • Isopure zero carb vanilla. 105 calories. 0 carbs. 1 g fat. 25 G protein. I add it straight to half a standard 16 oz bottle of water and shake. Dissolves easy and tastes great. They have bunch of other flavors - the coffee one has real coffee grounds mixed in which I thought was cool.
  • In response to a class action lawsuit brought on by Fitbit customers in California who sued because the devices were grossly overestimating their heart rate and step counts, Fitbit responded by stating that they "[were] entertainment devices" and "aren't intended to be scientific or medical devices". Entered into evidence…
