Welcome back! For sodium, I use this: https://thrivemarket.com/thrive-market-himalayan-pink-salt I literally just put a few pieces in my mouth and suck on it periodically. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom made homemade ice cream. I would swipe some of the rock salt and suck on that. This serves two purposes.…

I believe in looking at the medical research instead of the conventional wisdom/standard of care which is more politically driven than science driven. On that note, here are a few studies that show that what we are taught/told by our doctors does not match reality: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3750440/ -…

I had the sweet cheddar on steamed broccoli last night. It was awesome. The flavors went perfectly together

That was a concern which is why I bought one of each. I figured I would give them all a try so I could stock up on my favorite(s). All the best buy dates were May 2018, so stocking up seemed like a reasonable thing to do given how much cheese I eat.

Welcome @PrimalForLife - I am glad you found us. If you haven't gone to the Launch Pad on the main page of this group, I would highly recommend it. After over a year, I haven't made it through all of what is there simply because every time I start there, I end up down another rabbit hole. It feels like I am nearing a…

This, gentlemen, is how you stay married for decades. Listen to your wife. o:)

This came up in a couple discussions for me recently. I have been lower carb for a few years and keto since August 2016. I find it APPEARS to be more expensive because individual food items cost more. However, in reality, my food bill is down at least 1/3. Here's why: When you eat the cheap carbs (i.e. bag of chips), you…

I just have to say, I remember when you joined the group, and you don't even look like the same person. You look so much healthier and happier. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a new badge at work. This pic on the left is my badge from 5 years ago. On the right is the new one. I never realized how much fat was in my face and neck back then. In addition, the first 7 years of my daughter's life, it seemed like I appeared to age about 4-5 years each year. Looking at these, I think the last…

I think @canadjineh hit the big stuff as far as what to eat (food that eats natural vs grain fed). As for the overall O-3/O-6 ratio, that shows the same info as I have found in my research to date. The heart health of the ratio as well as the healing effects shown in nerve damage have also prompted me to work on improving…

Primal Kitchen makes some pretty good salad dressing using avocado oil. They also make mayo using avocado oil.

Add some meat and diced pepper and garlic to this, and it sounds like soup I make from time to time.

If it was just me, I might eat the same thing every day. As it is, I do eat a fairly limited menu. B - coffee or nothing L - weekday this is usually something I made over the weekend in the crock pot consisting of a meat with seasonings and added fats. I might throw in some zucchini or miracle rice. Then I frequently add…

The food I make would rarely be something picture worthy in the minds of most. However, from a taste standpoint, I am pretty confident it at least holds it own. That said, if you are cooking for others, it has to at least look good enough for them to try it.

Be careful of some of the "fiber" in LC bars and such. Some of these have been shown to raise BG as much as any other carb. If you see something that says 17 carbs with 15 of them being fiber, be leery of that fiber. Isomalto-oligosaccharides are one of these, although I am sure there are others. With so many good real…

Good for you getting out ahead of this. Most people/doctors don't realize high insulin is the first step toward diabetes. Dr. Joseph Kraft called it diabetes in situ. As far as following a diabetic diet, you are in the right place. Whatever you do, do NOT follow what the ADA advises unless you want full blown T2. I know I…

Best bet is always to eat real food IMHO.

I have taken IHOP completely off my list of acceptable places since my last visit where the only way to get a low carb meal was to order al a carte. Even then, as you mentioned, you have to be careful. I am not sure how they did it, but they managed to make more than a few of their items higher carb than most places.

This is an armadillo egg - a hollowed out jalapeño stuffed with cheese, enclosed in ground sausage and cooked on the smoker. Next time, I think I will wrap it in bacon. Not really a meal, but worth posting here.

One great thing about the foods on this WOE is they do not require near as much space. For instance a small bag of nuts will keep you satisfied longer than a large bag of chips. That said, when I travel, I do not go off plan, at all. I do a combo of 2 and 3. If possible/practical, I may eat beforehand so as to not be…

Yep. I get it from my vegan sister-in-law who also says she is concerned about how dangerous it is that I eat so much red meat. Meanwhile, she can't understand why she can't lose weight eating vegan - including all the vegan junk food. I am not anti-vegan. I am anti-stupid diet. Eat real food and make sure you get all your…

I get to go there this Saturday! WOO HOO!!!!!!

Here are the basic steps: * Get rid of the crap in the cupboards. * Only buy real food - if it is in a box or a bag or has more than just a couple ingredients, it is not real food. * Avoid eating out if at all possible. * Meal prep - make good meals in bulk and pack them up immediately. This works especially well for work…

Here is an article talking about a recent study with fasting which may be of interest. http://www.healthy-holistic-living.com/scientists-discover-fasting-triggers-stem-cell-regeneration-fights-cancer.html?t=DM Here is the link to the actual study: http://www.cell.com/cell-stem-cell/fulltext/S1934-5909(14)00151-9 Cancer is…

The only concern I see is with how much you are eating. By that I mean, if you are fasting, then fast. If you are eating more than a few hundred calories a day but a significant deficit from what you need, this is what causes the metabolic slow down we all hear about with cases like those in the biggest loser. True fasting…

That sounds like the same kind of broad hypothesis stated as fact the the main stream nutrition people would use. Perhaps getting some actual data would be appropriate before making such a statement. After all, many of Dr. Fung's patients are also keto in addition to fasting and have positive results. That is clinical and…

So I never ate sardines until after I was diagnosed with T2 and read how good they would be for me. Then I went and started eating keto after buying a lot of these because they were nothing like I expected. I actually really like them and thought they would be a great snack. Enter ketosis. Constant ravaging hunger…

Great article. Like I mentioned, I lean toward going as natural as possible. This is just more evidence for me to not veer off path. I am that rare pre-diabetic (formerly T2 before keto) who is neither overweight nor insulin resistant. However, I seem to be very prone to high GNG rates despite very high activity levels. BG…
