  • Am I the only one who reads gonetothedogs' posts in Eric Cartman's voice?
  • A useful trick if you choose not to weigh your food is to sort of limit the foods you routinely eat. I have a mental list of maybe 7-10 things that I mostly eat. For me, this is because I have small children and can't afford the mental energy to feed myself otherwise- but it also helps with my accuracy over the big…
  • Extra badge of you soak the peaches in tequila first, Girl Scout.
  • I'd also like to extol the virtues of banana as s'more component. Split banana, fill with marshmallow and chocolate, wrap in foil, toss in campfire (or on grill). Way better than graham crackers in my world.
  • Not really help but solidarity. Some people can't keep weight on whilst nursing; some of us can't lose it without losing milk supply. :( For me, I was fukt on weight loss until my nurslings were firmly doing solids (around a year old). It's not a universal maxim, of course, but for me it was a "you can have everything, but…
  • I meant in general- not this thread specifically. I don't know why I'm surprised that folx resist new info, though, as I was raised by people who think the 5th horseman of the apocalypse is named Science.
  • I couldn't cut any calories without tanking my milk supply until my nurslings were consistently doing solids somewhere after their first year. Especially at the newborn stage, the balance there was fragile for me. With #3 I gave myself permission to not feel guilty or rush it- and I'm glad. Of course some people have no…
  • I don't think this is a question of beliefs or values- at least not this sub conversation. It's frankly a question of knowledge. Most Americans probably assume an agricultural product like corn or apples or whatever are 'natural' because they know they grow in the ground (or the tree does)- and they have absolutely no…
  • If you have a reasonably powerful blender, you can make soft serve with only frozen bananas- no special gadget needed. It's my favorite.
  • If anyone is frothing for more about the history of apples (and three other plants), Michael Pollan's "The Botany of Desire" is enjoyable.
  • Frozen bananas in a high speed blender are the best thing ever. I like it BETTER THAN ICE CREAM.
  • Something that helped me was to set my priorities since the balance between losing weight and keeping supply seemed a bit fragile. Mine are: 1 my mental health and happiness 2 continuing the breastfeeding relationship 3 losing the baby weight. If I have to choose between losing the weight or losing the milk, I'll just put…
  • Yes- direct correlation. I had to sign a release in college acknowledging that my molecular bio degree would make me "bafflingly" fat. Luckily, I'm a grad school dropout, so then I got hotter- through no effort; it happened the moment I quit. Also, nobody makes passes at people with glasses. Good God.
  • If you read the abstract you posted, you'll note the large difference in rates for walking and running in the study. As stated a bunch of times, the meaningful calorie difference is only there if that rate differential is there- and the OP does not run much faster than she walks.
  • Defining science as "observing the world around you" carries the obvious pitfall of thinking that your casual observations of one minute bit of the world are actually "scientific." This is why we can't have nice things.
  • The problem with science is all those pesky advanced-degreed researchers who think their peer-reviewed, evidence-based findings have more value than my personal beliefs (which are obviously more valuable because I thought them up with my very own head). Honestly, it's a conspiracy to denigrate my personal specialness.
  • Also- I don't ever allow hungry and grouchy to happen. If I feel those things, I eat more. I've been making milk and/or pregnant (and tandem nursed for awhile) for a good 4.5 years in a row. That's a feat, and I deserve not to be hungry or crabby- even if it means I lose weight a little bit more slowly. It's a long game,…
  • I am another person who had to choose between supply and losing any baby weight. That whole breastfeeding makes you lose easily thing isn't really accurate for many people IME- at least whilst baby is exclusively (or mostly) BF. However, it sure is nice to have the "extra" BF calories once baby is eating food, and I do…
  • Something is not right with my set up. :( Set to sedentary today and still no adjustment at 7,500ish steps. I do log breastfeeding and hiit separately- so maybe that is somehow related? Super frustrated.
  • I asked because I was set to lightly active but have never gotten a pos adjustment (generally 7,000-9,000 steps per day). I'm using a Misfit, if that matters. I switched to sedentary this morning to see if it adjusts and when.
  • Ok- that makes a lot more sense now. I'm permamobile and didn't realize there were other features to see. Thanks so much for the detailed explanation.
  • That's super helpful- thank you.
  • I look at my tracker data separately and basically average the tracker data and the mfp activity numbers, if they differ a lot. Trackers are great but not infallible. I mean, I've seen my wife's log a very complex sleep pattern whilst sitting on the mantle. And I've worked out hard a couple times only to discover my…
